riley454 Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Been glued to "Made in Melbourne Sport" and what a great bunch of memories and recollections of past sporting coverage it brings. But cynically I wonder if their timing of the show coincides with their upcoming grab at the new AFL coverage contract renewals, considering the bulk of their sport coverage revolves around football. Surely the power grabbing Mr Demetriou and his cronies at the AFL who are working hard to destroy our once great, and gradually becoming less great, game can see past this poor form of advertising how good 7 can cover any sport. Yes they have had some great sporting coverage in the past but we are in a new era of sports coverage, and what has 7 got to offer to the football supporter? They lost the contract at the last renewal because they lacked the personalities, the funds and they could not move into the corporate coverage of football as fast as the opposition. Yes, 7 you can show us the glory days of Jack Dyer, Louie the Lip and Bobby Davis, but who is ever going to top the names that currently anchor the existing 9 & 10 commentary teams? FFS don't bring back Bruce and Sandy, who half-heartedly present our great game when they really prefer to be on media junkets covering (third party) telecasts of international sports ie:golf, olmypic & commonwealth games etc. Keep the football presentations with blokes who are heart and soul, and experienced in the game not professional sports hoppers. 9 and radio TripleM has unleashed Brian Taylor who has become one of THE best in the commentary game(and have helped develop others into successful media roles) and together with 10s coverage there are some of the recent great names in football who have provided the best football coverage we have seen for many years. Lets have footballers who can commentate rather than commentators who can talk about football.
