hi guys..

Considering of buying a power this power amp rated at 120w*5, just to release the load on my yamaha, and also have heard the sound just sounds much better with one of these paired up with an existing receiver.....

What i want to know is whether, i will notice the difference in sound...???

Will it pair up well with my Yamaha RX-V1500??

And any users of this amp out their, basically what are the ups and downs of this power amp??.

and i think the going price is like 1599 right??

Thanks heaps guys

If you can try before you buy it would be the best option.

I am using this amp for my rears and centre and a 1080 or my fronts. Haven't tried the 1075 on the fronts as yet but for my centre and surounds it does a wonderfull job.

Before i picked up my rotel gear i was using my old yamaha 995 to drive my b&w 700 series setup, the change over to the rotel gear was a huge difference, of course i also changed the pre amp to the 1098 so that ould have also helped alot, esspecialy in 2 channel mode

ok just fired up the fronts with the 1075 and found it not to be as good in 2 channel as the 1080.

The main noticeable difference was the clarity in the mids and the top end.

Now i must admit the 1080 has had more of a workout than the 1075 as i have been listening to alot of 2 channel music and have only watched 3 movies with the 1075 fired up.

What i would suggest is to maybe look for a good 2 channel amp for your fronts and use the yamaha for centre and surrounds.

Maybe something like the rotel 1070 to match the power of the yamaha, but if you can step up to the 1080 i highly recommend this amp.

Again, trust your ears and try to audition one with your setup

I own the Rotel RB-1080 2 x 200w to drive the fronts, RMB-1075 5 x 120w for the surrounds and and RB-1070 2 x 130w for a zone 2 area. If your trying to improve 2ch music go for the RB-1080 followed closely by the RB-1070 a second option if you want to save a bit of money and let the Yamaha drive your surrounds. This being said the RMB-1075 should also be a step up from the Yamaha, however I have never tried the RMB-1075 it to drive my front speakers as I started off with the RB-1080 first.

You might also want to consider other brands around the same price point, ie. NAD etc.

Thanks for the reply mate...

Just in my case i'll prob be using my ht for 95% movies...., that bieng said do you think i'd be safe to get the just the 1075 to drive my Fronts Centres and Rears, Or to get the 1080 to drive my mains..?? or like you said to to get both.....

I reckon that would work fine

I have a 1075 for centre and rears in 5.1 and could use the other 2 channels for 7.1. My mains are driven by an ME-850 which after all these years is delivering

Whether you will be happy with the RMB-1075 over a better quality 2ch amp like a Rotel RB-1080 etc will depend on your speakers and your own ears. This being said I still think a multi-channel amp like the RMB-1075 will be far better than the Yamaha. After discounts, you should be able to pick up a RMB-1075 or RB-1080 new for $1150 to $1250 and the RB-1070 for $700 which is still a relatively small sum of money for something you will keep through a number of Receiver upgrades. I think NAD and Sherwood have similar priced amps, beyond these brands and models the pricing will go up substantially and probably not worth the investment unless you have plans to buy other reference equipment to partner it with.

Jdh thanks alot for your reply mate..

i have just one more enquiry, if i were to buy the 1080 to power my mains and the 1075 to fire up the rest, would i notice any difference in sound between the the mains and the rest of the speakers???

i have heard that the 1080 sounds a bit warmer in comparison to the 1075...

I haven't noticed a difference, you will hear a difference if you have unmatched speaker brands or the speaker placement is different.

I think if your main reason for the upgrade is for HT go with a multi channel amp if for 2ch reasons put what ever available funds you are happy to spend into a better 2ch amp.

I run the 1080 and 1075 and its an awsome combination. I run it with a full b&w700 series setup.

The only thing you will need to do is match the levels in HT mode. The 1080 is great for 2 channel

cool thanks alot guys....

very useful opinions indeed,....

btw What surround Processors are you guys using??

i am using the rotel 1098 but i'm sure the yamaha will do as good a job in dd dts and it has the test tones built in so you can set the levels on all the speakers to match.

they are both priced the same so with some bargaining i dare say you should pick them up for just over the $1k mark each

talking cables could lead into huge arguments so i say just get the best you can afford.

Personally i am using Kimber PBJ for fronts and then cables from this mob http://www.htcustomcables.com/stereo_audio.htm for the centre rears and sub.

Speaker cable i am also using Kimber. As long as you don't use the cheap nasty cables you shouldn't have any problems.

When i first looked at cables a sales guy tried to sell me some transparant cables for $600 a pair, i almost laughed at him. Hmmm lets see a cable thats woth almost as much as my amp, and if you were to get all of them, it would cost you more than your amps.

You should be able to get 15 to 25% off retail depending on your barganing power and whether your buying more than one item. I'm currently using an Rotel RSP-1066 as a pre/pro, its not the latest model but still very happy with the purchase.

Harmony Gold from dick smith should be good enough.

Yes I have a Rotel RSP 1068 processor that drives the ME for the mains, and the 1075 runs the centre and rears. Two chanels on the 1075 are unused

The sub is a velodyne spl1200R

Hope that helps
