You are answering the same questions over and over, yes that's correct we all get tired. But these are all different people asking the question and to them it's the first time that they've ever asked it (RTFM and stupid questions aside).

It's just a part of how forums evolve, eventually the old farts get bored with the same questions and move on, and the same people they answered questions for start answering and in the end Forums shall invade the earth muahahaha.

yep well I'm not answering the same questions over and over again thats for sure. I'll leave that for the other old farts left on the forum.

And to lazy bone idle cocky smart @rses who think theyre too good for using the search function well they can go **** themselves for all I care !

Perhaps to help the situation perhaps coral will consider a FAQ section for each of the separate forums ?.

People have tried putting threads up as stickys but unfortunately they just can't cover all the FAQ's that tend to be asked in each forum.

The DBA website itself also does have a FAQ section too but obviously thats way too far out of view for the average newbie who hasn't discovered that side of the website as yet. Also that FAQ section is very specific to DTV.

Perhaps if Coral can consider a FAQ section I'm sure plenty of people will post what are the typical FAQ's posted on here. Infact just looking back on this thread I can already see plenty of likely candidates. Maybe the FAQ's could be setup as links that run searches to go find relevant threads/posts on the topic ?

Seems like nobody's got the cat's tongue!

Let me put things into a certain perspective....

When I found this forum(and at the time I was a forum virgin), it was via a Google based on a particular tv card that I couldn't get to work properly. Being a non-geek, but a regular desciple of the net, I asked a (possibly) stupid and often asked question, how to get my card working as it was designed. Although there were many search results pertaining to my query, I could not fathom much of the general geek discussion. There was, however a certain DBA forum member who had not only taken the time to answer my question, but also get my card fully functional through his own personal software development.

I asked the same question on 3 other forums and was ignored. Since my own tv card problem was solved, the only reason I stayed involved with this site was because our forum member kept me up to date with the software changes, and whilst I was here....

Somehow I came across the off-forum topics. And now that's all I contribute to these days, and it's a great addition to my day.

My point is, allow some of the nuff-nuffs a bit of slack and we might be able to welcome a few more "forum" educated members, who can contribute on all topics

riley I never said anyone was a nuff nuff and I've never said anything about anyone asking silly questions. Infact I'm sure I've asked plenty of questions on this forum myself that others more knowing might think as silly. The old saying holds I think...no such thing as a silly question.

My iritation is with the same old questions that keep on and on being asked on this forum over and over and over again. And the seemingly absolutely obvious lack of use of the search function for whatever reason.

I do hope the suggestion for a FAQ section, as made here by askegg in this thread

http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...ndpost&p=292237

is taken up by coral as do think people asking these same questions over and over again is both a waste of the valuable contributions already made and a waste of the time of people responding especially since many of these topics have been absolutely done to death.

As far as taking time out to help people out, I've done my fair share of that and will continue to do the same where I see fit and think I can contribute and I'm sure plenty of forum members will continue to do the same.

Nobby - sweet wisdom.

Understanding that nothing stays the same and that change will happen is a very calming notion.

So the pendulum will keep swingingback and forth, and the further it goes one way the further it must return. Now is a product of before and tomorrow of today.

So to are the forums of our lives...

And so we grow up and move onto AVS then return as wise old farts that merely chuckle at the young whipper snappers having their own cable debates

Sorry al, didn't intend you to take offence :P

My intended point was to show that forum novices, as I, and I suppose most people once were, may not realise some of the etiquette that others expect. I certainly didn't. But I also couldn't quite get a full grasp on some of the previous answers that pertained to my personal enquiry, so needed to ask the same question that many others had, in a way that I would get an answer that made sense to ME! Undoubtedly, my question would've been a fit example of the inspiration for THIS thread.

I think nobby's description of the evolution of forums appears to be very valid. Even though the oldies have to wade through(and ignore) the same old questions, the newer forum members love to provide solutions/answers to the problems that the oldies once gave to them. Just the living world oldies and the younger generations.

Homer Simpson:

Kids ask the stupidest questions
and
Kids say the dumbest things

An interesting parallel maybe?

I do agree though, that many of the same old questions are because of laziness, and FAQ section, if feasible may help. Or possibly a new subject classification on particular items that have a certain amount of threads posted, if it's logistically possible.

Just reply with "Google it".  :P

Tolerance, dear Al. :P

But seriously, the search function needs to be improved. Suggest maybe have a more user friendly Google style "search bar" pinned at the top of each sub-forum.

There's a search function??

Where do I need to look/go/search to find the search function?

If I go to google, will it tell me your search function is?
