All the DRM stuff is bullshit. See link below for more details.

http://www.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=9818

Not all the DRM is crap. That particular rumor is, and i never thought it'd be implemented, but if you think that's the only DRM measure being speculated, you'd be very much mistaken. There's ALOT more DRM garbage that they do want to implement, like HD via HDCP HDMI/DVI only (which is really fuc*ed) and having your PS3 (or bluray) permanently connected to the net so they can authenticate geniune games/movies to ensure they aren't copies and ensure region coding (although I have heard recently that there may not be any region coding on the PS3) and crap like that hasn't be bypassed.

The biggest one that gets me is no HD via component.

There will be so much DRM protection crammed into these machines. saying it's all sh!t is prett naive.

The net connection may not happen in the next few years but they will eventually impliment it. Or try to anyway.

Also consider that people who want a Bluray player probably already have a net connection at home at the moment.

PS3 will win hands down..its games will carry it across the finish line as always

Have you ever played Halo or Halo 2? If not play them and then tell me that the ps3 has better games. What a load of garbage! Most games these days you are able to get on both consoles except a few & Halo's are one of them.

It's not the fact it needs one... I've got adsl, so i don't care. it's the fact it might have to be connected so sony can keep tabs on me, which they have no right to do.

I feel anythign that relies on the net to operate is just a complete joke to implement. To asume everyone has the net AND a broadband connect on top of that is just plane arrogant and any company that does so (in any form) is pathetic. This sort of thing started with software and now its moving to hardware. If i want to use software on a computer thats nto on the internet i should be able to do so; and the same for hardware!

Oh and saying you've got a connection that is broadband so you don't care is a very selfish and narrowminded way to be. It'd be like the bush saying "ok we've got heaps of beef and milk screw teh city we wont give them any". I bet that wouldnt go down very well. lol.

Anyways just a rant

As for the poll. I think it'd have to be a little more specific and broken into parts. On one hand i feel the PS3 will win in som easpects while in others the 360 will prevail. Example... PS3's hardware seems fantastically powerful and the features of the console seem great (USB Memory sticks, HDMI, etc). Yet the X360 may be better being a media center type deal (if its cracked) and the online aspect seems far better handled and nifty. there are so many areas where one wins and the other does that at the end of the day ther's no outright winner. Just a winner for any given person's main use or requirement. :P

EDIT: Oh i forgot to ask... what type of memory saves deal has the X360 got? i cant recall seeing a mention of any such thing in my travels. Can we use normal memory sticks to save game saves or anything on or is there a proprietry *groan* thing?

I'm pretty sure the 360 has proprietry memory cards. I don't know what else looks like it will fit into those slots... but you'd probably just want to save onto the HDD though anyway, right?

And yeah where is this information that the PS3 will only allow HD through HDMI? Surely they will allow component - I thought they were one of the bigger supporters of that format.

Oh and Drugsy, there are people who differ in opinion to you - I find the Halo series to be rather distant from spectacular.

Also, can you name any other supposedly "must-have" games that are exclusive to the Xbox?

It's well known that Sony's intention with Bluray is to only allow HD through HDMI. This way, the ps3 can communicate with the display device's hdmi port and not allow copied discs to play. But that may only apply to movies. Games could be HD through component. We'll have to wait and see.

Of course that there are people who differ in opinion to me, if we all had the same opinion it would be a boring world! It really depends on what type of games you like to play ie: fps, role playing, stragedy, racing etc to what you find is a good game. Name me a ps2 game that has sold more copies than Halo 2? Oh yeah here is a couple of games that i like exclusive to the xbox, pgr, doom 3, half life 2. I'm sure that there is games on the ps2 that are exclusive to it also. Why wasn't doom 3 released on the ps2? Because it wasn' powerful enough to handle the game.

I'd import form dvdboxoffice but what would i do with htsc games after i'm done with them. Sell them to who? EB wouldn't take them.

pretty cool article on anandtech.com, where they have pulled apart (literally) the x360... lots of pretty pictures of the internals etc... didnt see this link posted on here already, so here 'tis:

any guestimates as to how long before we see first generation mods for x360?

cheers

An NTSC xbox proved the best option for the 1st generation mainly due to HD support. Mods tend to take care of region coding issues so I think I will buy now. Unless of course the aus release is not too far away - anyone actually know?

I wonder if there are issues with producing pal games in 720p at 50hz as opposed to 60hz. Maybe this is why we didnt get HD support for xbox.

For the ps3 fanboys, I feel sorry for you, halo 3 is set to release around the time the ps3 is released, if it does for the 360 what halo 1/2 did for the xbox then ps3 is in for a hard start.

ps3 is hard to program for, its cell architecture sucks hard but it gives it an advantage in terms of power

Good point about the halo release!

im still hearing March for AU release from some sources, and "calendar year 2006" from others...

" In calendar year 2006, X360 will launch in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, Mexico and Colombia. Microsoft would not clarify what quarter, month, or date "calender year '06" was."

So whats teh big deal with this Halo game?  What type of game is it and what makes it so good? (Its a FPS i beleive?).

Halo 1 was the best game to come out at the time but halo 2 just sucked IMO.

Tend to agree a bit. Halo was probably the best ever first person shooter imo. There was bit too much hype with Halo 2 & it didn't live up to the hype imo. None the less it is still avery good game if you like that kind of genre. Hoffy if you haven't played either one than i suggest that you do. There is no better multiplayer game on the market.
