betty boop Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I don't know .... did the australian public screw it up again like they did with Casey Donovan(who ?) last year ? Or was it that for the aussies voting they thought that Kate was a bit more of an aussie than the kiwi born emily. I don't know ...I know which was was the better singer and performer !
gclark8 Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I just wish they would get on with it so I can watch Numbers..
Guest knet1k Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I thought new years had come early judging by all the fireworks

phase52001 Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 What's "Australian Idol"? Is it something to do with making huge amounts of money from telephone voting?
Drugsy Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I think that its the third year in a row that the public have got it wrong. But look at the singers that have come second, they seem to have better careers than the first place getters!
mtv Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Well, I for one voted for Kate. Apart from her sheer hard-work and dedication to achieving a goal she has set her sights on for many years, she is extremely talented and she's a local girl. (By local I mean from my own city.) Sure, Emily is (I believe) equally talented and that's why she was in the grand final. However, as with all contests, there can only be one winner and I'm sure Emily will go on to make a career for herself in the music industry too. A question for those of you are saying the public got it wrong.... did you guys actually lodge a vote for Emily to show you thought she should win?... Be honest.
djOS Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I actually think that this time they got it right, yes Em is a great vocalist but her song choices, imo, have been for the most part completely uninspiring! Whitney, Maria etc Yuck!
Pogi Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 i believe emily should've won one of the public who was asked on who should win who said kate, also mentioned that she battled a weight problem so it appears kate got sympathy votes because she is overweight...*sigh* i hate how that happens, ala casey donovan's win last year

I think that Leigh was the best entertainer than the lot & will probably be the most succesful out of them imo.
mtv Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 No one's answered my question yet, that those who say Emily should have won, did you actually submit a vote for her?
Drugsy Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 No one's answered my question yet, that those who say Emily should have won, did you actually submit a vote for her? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Turn it up mate, you don't think that we would actually put a vote in do you? But that doesn't mean we can't put our opinion accross on who we think should of won.
Doug1503559538 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Should it have been renamed "Kiwi Idol" ? maybe Islander idol ? . Not many Australians in the final 20. I was watching China's brainiest Kid the other night too - was great television. My favorite topics are"Mao DeZong", "Womens Liberation" and "how I do not have a life at 12 years old". I really feel worried for the future of Australian society - we are going backwards. In 25 years it is highly likely that the Chinese will own so much property in Australia that your children and grandchildren will not be able to afford to live in Sydney or Melbourne (Adelaide excepted because only people born there seem to want to live there, hehehehhe) and will have to rent off the Chinese. Think about this everytime you buy something made in China - they are using the proceeds to buy up Australian companys and property.

Santa1503559644 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Australian zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....... Maybe ... just maybe, if they screen "Smolenskian Idol" .... BTW: I don't know how many permutations they are going to try, but "Australia's Braniest Comic" may be one of the better combos...
betty boop Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 No one's answered my question yet, that those who say Emily should have won, did you actually submit a vote for her? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep I placed my one vote for her and its the only time I voted the whole show. Thought she was pretty spectacular and as far as someone doing it tough or a battler I don't think you could do any better. As far as not enough aussies as far as I know they were all aussies just not aussie enough for your average aussie out there I guess.
harbajahn Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I was surprised that Emily won, however I have to disagree with the comment about the voters getting it wrong for three years in a row. Guy Sebastian was clearly the most talented in the first year, Shannon Noll continues to be successful despite a terrible tonal problem (flat as a tack), how he sells cds is beyond me. Anthony Callea is a real talent for a short gay boy, Casey Donovan has a load of talent, but who's the prettiest? Then you know why he's more successful than Casey, he's also willing to remain closeted so that his female fans will still support him. Last night, we saw two talented women, at different ends of the scale, Kate has a pure voice, Emily has a power packed voice, it was real toss up for the winner. Having said that I don't understand the "voting public", how Lee could get as far as he did by singing songs in "soft punk" style amazes me, he truly is a "one trick punk pony", entertaining yes but a pop star? Nup.
riley454 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 shush!..youre revealing our plan!!...we're only here to claim your jobs, land and women..we bring a lot of money into this country <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And blowing it all on our blackjack and roulette tables! Back into the hands of REAL Aussies like um Kerrie maybe? A bit of a worry is the bulk of the steel that is being used (in my workplaces, at least) is from china, and is cheaper but of lesser quality than the Australian equivalent. Are the power-hungry Chinese providing us with a product that has a definite use-by date so they know when to invade and destroy?
djOS Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I was surprised that Emily won, <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually it was Kate that won. You go girl, she imo will make the better albums of the 2 as she can not only sing (both can) but she has much better taste in terms of song choice. Em, seriously, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston & Maria! Utter garbage imo !!!!!! (and before ppl point out that they've sold millons of cd's so they must be good, I remind you that so has crazy frog! nuf said!)

Yup, Kate, I was very surprised she won. Agreed re: selling millions of CD's doesn't necessarily equate to talent, in a confusing way, that was one of the points of my post. Shannon Noll being a good example, lots of CD's sold, talent???

betty boop Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 interesting article here on the age http://www.theage.com.au/news/tv--radio/ka...2421604870.html "The winner's single is a guaranteed No.1 hit, with an album, to be recorded in the next week, a certain Christmas top seller. Although Williams was runner-up last night, she can take some consolation from history. The Idol runners-up from the first two series have eclipsed the success of those to whom they "lost". Last month, Anthony Callea's song, The Prayer, was named the highest-selling Australian single ever at the ARIA awards. " theres a "your say" section there too with a few interesting points http://blogs.theage.com.au/yoursay/archive...l.html#comments agree with the comment that guy sebastian was a very deserving winner from the first series.
