- The World Just Got A Little Less Funny

by Mark Faulk

Richard Pryor passed away today of a heart attack at the age of 65, after battling Multiple Sclerosis since 1986. He was, quite simply, the funniest man on the planet. Without Richard Pryor, there would be no Chris Rock, there would be no Eddie Murphy, there would be no Martin Lawrence, there would be no Dave Chappelle. He blazed a trail that others could only follow, largely because, as his wife Jennifer Pryor put it, "He was able to turn pain into comedy."

In 2004, Pryor was voted the "Greatest Standup Comedian of All Time" by Comedy Central. So here's to you, Richard, the funniest mother****er in the world.

From the mouth of genius:

"Marriage is really tough because you have to deal with feelings... and lawyers."

"I went to Zimbabwe...I know how white people feel in America now, relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!"

"When you ain't got no money, you gotta get an attitude."

"There's nothing worse than being an aging young person."

"There's a thin line between to laugh with and to laugh at."

"Everyone carries around his own monsters"

"I believe in the institution of marriage, and I intend to keep trying till I get it right."

"I never met anybody who said when they were a kid, I wanna grow up and be a critic."

"It's been a struggle for me because I had a chance to be white and refused"

"Two things people throughout history have had in common are hatred and humor. I am proud that, like Mark Twain, I have been able to use humor to lessen people’s hatred."
