Guest PhilQ Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 My first post on this forum - Eleven months ago I bought a DSE SD box, model G7659 from Tandy. It worked perfectly for ten months, and then began to run very hot, even in standby. The AC connection also sparked and hummed, and my perfect digital reception developed major 'Venetian blinds' type interference and then totally crashed. I thought that it was a reception problem, until upon returning the box to Tandy I was informed that nearly 300 units had been returned with similiar problems, (which is quite a lot for Tandy Hobart!) all apparently due to a faulty capacitor. Anyway I was offered an updated DSE box (G 1185) - new capacitor - and it is now performing absolutely flawlessly.... Has anyone else had similiar problems? Despite the unit's running very hot and sparking there has been no safety product recall as far as I am aware.... Mind you it took my box tenth months before failing (phew-just within warranty!) So if you have a DSE G7659 and things go 'pear-shaped' grab your receipt and get on down to your dealer. Cheers, PhilQ.
digitsall Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Hi Phil, Welcome from another newbie. This appears to be a ccommon problem for DSE and brands like Nutec. Fortunately they usually fail within the first 12 months and is a blown power supply problem where half a dozon electro caps pop their tops. Does antbody remember Zinwell boxes? So good they became extinct. Better stbs are Nextwave brand. I have never had a recall on one.
dhon Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 (edited) exactly same proble & got it fixed (didn't get offered new box as they don't have new stock), but standing it up on its side from now on (thanks to OzDude)... http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?s=&show...ndpost&p=313149 Edited December 22, 2005 by dhon
