We bought a cheap Set Top Box today (Legend LSD2) but since our oldest son flew the nest we don't have anyone at home who knows about hooking things up.

We have hooked up to the tv (which is now over 5 years old).

Austar Box (satellite)

DVD Player

VCR

There's a spaghetti junction of cables running hither, thither and yon. It doesn't help that the back of the entertainment unit is filled in with only small holes for cables and plugs so we can't easily trace what cable goes where.

We've managed to figure out the Red, White and Yellow cable. (back of set top box into TV)

We've figured out that we can unplug the RF in cable from the back of the Austar Box and plug it into the set stop box, but we haven't been able to nut out what to do with the RF out cable.

It's currently plugged into the TV and the Austar box, but if we remove that from the Austar box to put in the Set top box, then we lose the Austar signal on the tv set.

What do we do? to get the Set top box up and running?

If your TV has more than one AV input the simplest solution would be to connect the STB to one of the other inputs. The yellow cable is for video the others for audio. If your TV has the option of s'video (small 4 pin plug) use that for the video rather than the yellow composite connection, (but you'll still need to connect L&R audio).

If you don't have enough inputs buy a decent quality switch box.

Try to avoid connecting anything to the TV via RF. The only RF should be from the antenna to the STB, (and whatever connection comes into the Austar box).
