Guest spaus Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Hi everyone, I recently pruchased a dual tuner DVICO digtal tv card which has been working fine on my computer monitor LCD display. Yesterday I tried to hook it up to my LCD projector. I connect via VGA and I set the gt6600 nvidia graphics card to dual display mode. The second screen displays and I can alter the resolutions and run programs on the second window without issue. I am running my software on XP SP2. However, I can't get the TV picture to display on the second monitor. I can watch movies using PowerDVD, WMP, etc as long as physically open the file/directory on the new screen. However when I switch to TV using either the DVICO or DNTV software packages I get the channel information and audio but no picture??? I have also tried opening a prerecorded media file in DNTV and again I can't get a picture. If I open the same file using PowerDVD it displays as it should. I have also tried using the cloned display setting (the display is the same on both monitors) but again neither the DVICO or DNTV live software will display the TV picture or display a prerecorded file? However, if I make the display single monitor through the nvidia control panel and just display on the projector it works fine. This however is real pain becuas if I switch off I am black screening on the PC monitor. Any suggestions? I don't know where to start with this one. Do you think it is a nvidia problem or a dntv/dvico problem? It is strange that other packages like PowerDVD, WMP etc all work fine in dual mode as long as you open the file on that screen. Any suggestions? Thanks SP
DavoNogo Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 With DNTV Live!, try playing around with the VMR and Overlay options in the Video Decoder settings. Certain VMR modes work/don't work on some configurations with regards to Video Mirroring, whilst Overlay mode should almost always work. To enable Overlay mode, untick either of the VMR modes. Failing that, try setting the LCD projector as the Primary display, and your computer LCD monitor as Secondary display. And make certain the DTV program you wish to use starts up on Primary monitor.

Eaglehawk Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Hi everyone,However, I can't get the TV picture to display on the second monitor. Any suggestions? Thanks SP To do what you want to achieve, I had to set the TV (in my case an LCD TV) to be the "primary monitor" in the Display Properties of WinXP. It takes a lot of fiddling with XP to make the TV "primary" but display your Start Menu on the secondary LCD (my 17" LCD). But it's possible. I can play WoW while watching Digital TV
Guest spaus Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Thanks DavoNogo, Renura and Eaglehawk, I wil try your suggestions tonight. Eaglehawk, You say, "To do what you want to achieve, I had to set the TV (in my case an LCD TV) to be the "primary monitor" in the Display Properties of WinXP. It takes a lot of fiddling with XP to make the TV "primary" but display your Start Menu on the secondary LCD (my 17" LCD). But it's possible." This sound precisely what I need to do. You refer to " a lot of fiddling" can you remember what settings /control panels you had to fiddle with? Thanks Again SP
strobe1970 Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I have a LCD monitor connected via the DVI and my projector connected via the VGA connector. If I'm reading your email correct then this may be a suggestion. I just pick a video media file that compatible with Windows Media player and I right click with the mouse on the media file - this gives you a menu selection (down the bottom of the menu list) that says "Play on My". When you select that option it lists all the display devices connected - select your LCD projector. This sets the display card into using the secondary display as the 'video' display. After WMP starts (the video should be visible on primary and secondary displays - you can minimise WMP on the primary display without affecting the secondary at all). Close WMP and start FusionHDTV and it will still use the secondary display as the video display independant of the primary display. I can't remember but you may have to turn VMR off on FusionHDTV (I don't have access to my computer to try it). There is a way to do this via the Nvidia advanced display properties - but I find this way faster. You can also have the VGA, TV (s-video) and DVI working at the same time using this method - though nvidia control panel will only let you control the resolution on two devices independantly. regards, Paul p.s. I think you need 8x.xx series display drivers for this to work.
Eaglehawk Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 can you remember what settings /control panels you had to fiddle with? Thanks Again SP Right click the desktop, Properties....Settings... Highlight the LCD TV, and then tick the box "Use this device as the primary monitor". I do this while the NVidia is running in "Dual View" mode, and after fiddling around with the order of the monitors, I can get the Start Menu on my 17" LCD but everything else sorta treats the LCD TV as the primary montior, which means FusionHDTV starts on that monitor and then works
DavoNogo Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 There's also a drop-down box (in the same general area as the above) that will let you choose which monitor you want as the primary display with the latest drivers
