I saw that and thought their maths was wrong..

14750 grams x US$20 per gram = US$295,000 which is a long, long way off $1,000,000

so I looked it up on wikipedia

I think someones got their grams & ounces mixed up, because on wiki it says raw ambergris fetches between US$2.00 to US$9.00 per ounce

even @ US$9 an ounce is less than A$1 per gram...

so at 14.75kg it would be worth A$14,750 - which is not bad for a lump of waxy stuff found on a beach, but it's not $1,000,000

I think you're on the right track ... I thought the figures (you mention) from the article looked pretty duff myself! Didn't check out the latest Vomit Futures, though, so I've no idea what RUA (CBT market code for raw unprocessed ambergris) is currently trading at! :P

I was also wondering how much vomit the Japanese collect whilst whaling?
