Tweet Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 I yearn for the days when we didn't have these watermarks on screen. It really shows contempt for the viewing audience in ruining their visual pleasure of the 'junk' programmes presented as entertainment by stamping an oversized icon of their channel somewhere obvious. No wonder TV is losing its viewers to other forms of entertainment. C.M
jayjay Posted January 29, 2006 Author Posted January 29, 2006 Nine will unveil its new look tomorrow with the most obvious change to be the logo. The network has lost the iconic balls that have been part of its look for almost 20 years. A promotions and branding team have been working on the new logo - a plain white number nine on a square blue background - for the past six months but its design has been kept tightly under wraps. SOURCE/ http://www.smh.com.au/news/tv--radio/light...8319491132.html lmao, looks like its real!
Timmy Downawell Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 That doesn't mean the figure 9 will still be in that crappy, exceedingly dated style, tho. It better bloody not be, it's that element that dates the existing logo more than anything else. If it were me I'd have dropped the figure 9 and re-styled the dots and just used them, perhaps with 'NINE' written under them. Unfortunately they didn't ask for my input. LOL.
Skid_MacMarx Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Newton, along with Jessica Rowe, Georgie Parker and a controversial new network logo, are four of the weapons in Channel Nine's armoury as Australia's leading network faces the biggest challenge to its supremacy in years. Bert Newton...new logo ... weapons to win back audiences. . ., please it must be a joke If anything keep the old transparent one, maybe we should do a survey and sent it to Eddie but really the quality of programming must be addressed not a stupid logo aaaaaahhhhhhhhh I don't know how anyone can justify the outlay of $1ooks for this type of shyte disbelief . . .

I know Win News has had a face lift opening and all they use to be similar opening to National Nine News win news Logo is Win and map of australia cheers
Bronx19 Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Oh dear, I think you're taking things a bit too seriously. There is one solution, and that's abstinence, otherwise called the OFF switch. Another solution is to "train" the networks to show less of the crap. Don't watch the Big Brothers and other rubbish. Watch the interesting docos on ABC/SBS and those which are shown on the commercial networks. Watch the good dramas and comedies (preferably Australian ones) which take your fancy. If we all watch the good stuff, then the Networks will soon get the idea. If they are trying to flog a product no-one wants they'll stop and screen stuff we do want to watch. I work in commercial television and watch a lot of ABC SBS as well as the commercials. Sure there's a lot of rubbish (on all networks including ABC/SBS) but I simply don't watch it. Actually I think we're pretty well off here compared to some places overseas. We do generally get the pick of US and British shows, whereas they also have to put up with their local dross as well. Cheers JB I only watch Sports on FTA, the rest is all Pay. TV has been this way for years now, what we watch will not change the amount of commercials I have to sit through, and I very much doubt its going to make them show better content. Im sick to death of missing vital parts of sporting events just so they can show an ad. In two years time, how many more commercials can they feasibly squeeze in? Why do the network TV guides clearly state a movie or prgram starts on the half hour, but they all continually run 15 minutes late?

tonygib Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 The move comes after Nine's prime-time audience share declined by 5.5 per cent in 2005 So, what I want to know, is did that 5.5 per cent go to the other networks, or did some/all of it go someplace else (DVD, Internet, etc). That aside, if they really think that a new watermark logo (one which it looks will about the worse so far) is a weapon, then that "promotions and branding team" really needed to spend their 6 months on getting professional help. The only way that weapon is going to work, is by most likely "exterminating" the audience. Of course this is just the start of things, I've already noticed the banner ads have returned to 7, so its time to duck and cover, before we all get caught in the crossfire.

lawyer1990 Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 But don't get me wrong, I did still watch a number of other things:- episode of Commander in Chief Is Commander In Chief any good? I was thinking of watching it on Channel BT but I was gonna wait until Ch 7 broadcasted it as it is a new show and to see if it was any good.
tonygib Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Is Commander In Chief any good? I was thinking of watching it on Channel BT but I was gonna wait until Ch 7 broadcasted it as it is a new show and to see if it was any good. Well, thats always a subjective question, but I'm rather enjoying it. Gena Davis is very good and Donald Sutherland is great. I guess an easier answer is, if you don't like The West Wing, then don't bother watching Commander in Chief. While they do have a number of differences, the general theme (USA President/West Wing of the white house) is much the same, just a different take on it all and in the case of CiC more focus on the president, which is to be expected in this case.

LMAO! Surely I am not the only one who found that funny? Read it again people... SIX MONTHS to work hard on a plain NUMBER 9 on a blue SQUARE BACKGROUND. LOL!!! 6 whole months!!!
LBM Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 They didn't sit there for six months to get a logo - it take trial, error, testing, approval, etc. and then that is just the start. From there you have to select a colour that is going with one of the most well known brandings Australia has and the finally, after all is completed, they need to animate, test, render and do countless other things to get the station promos and everything else ready. To me, that is a very short amount of time for such a volume of work. I can guarantee that almost nobody here could come close to what they will have done.

LBM Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 It was a joke LBM! Oh, sorry about that, I think that I need some more sleep. Then again, I won't be up in time to see this change tomorrow morning. Oh well, it isn't going away any time soon.

mello yello Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 .......... I can guarantee that almost nobody here could come close to what they will have done. Almost.... I heard they wanted a new image.....someone in a sexy skimpy blue dress.......holding something long and hard whilst looking seductively into the camera........something all macho men as well as fashion conscious women could identify with and say..."yes thats for me.....thats the kind of stuff I want to watch"........ Here on Nine we didnt lose our balls, we just found a great way to keep them cool
Andyt30 Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Win would look good with a blue Back Ground With WIN In White. cheers
