You did well to only spend $200 on curtains!

Lounge looks lovely. Can you give me source and price. (I assume you are over East but that doesn't matter).

PM if you want.

Honestly this is great news, SVS have been making outstanding subs for years by all the AVS reviews, it's great to have them selling them in Aus finally.

Yeah, I have heard so much about them from overseas, it would be great to get some local impressions.

Looking at the charts for the PB12 Plus/2, it looks like they have reasonable SPL (max around 90 db), but they have very good extension. I'm not sure what are the other subs at that price range though (roughly $2500).

Hehe I would have been very excited by these too, but I just got permission today to knock a hole in my floor between my mains to put in IB (Infinite Baffle) using 2 x 18" avalanche drivers :P:P:P

I hope the room was built solidly (it was I helped build it) cause this will rock the foundations

Wow, nice! Do you have floorboards for the floor?

Yes, gunna be an 20" x20" square hole in the middle of the floor soon  Yeehah

Just need to find a nice cast iron grate to fit over it so dog/small child won't damage the drivers if they fall in :P

Just getting the thread back on track...

I need some advice...

From looking at the pictures does anyone think there is room for rear speakers... my initial thoughts are no as they would be right in the ear holes of the people closest to the walls....

Just curious on others thoughts

not in the current setup I'd say unless willing to move the couches a meter or so forward.

another one to consider....

not totally sure on the layout of the room

but appears you have yout ht gear backing up onto a dining area.

what if you turned your whole setup around 180 deg ?

you'd then have your couches backing upto the dining area. ht gear along the wall where the couches are currently and you would then be able to mount the rear on wall of the dining area. bonus with this is too that you can watch tv, listen to system while at the table.

again hard to tell from the pics but just a thought that came ot mind. you probably need to post a hand sketch of the layout as it is now to really make comment

3m back for mounting the rears on the dining area wall might be a bit too far back. unless you were considering a ceiling mounted rears in the current dining area firing down wards into the lounge room area. think its toet ? that has it that way ?

good you've posted though. people can better visualise to comment

And heres a mock up with the furniture and HT gear in its current configuration..

Yeah i figured as much... o well at least thats a good reason for me not to spend any more money by buying rears... (<fortune cookie>got to see good in bad</fortune cookie>)

I think rears on each wall above the couch would add some effect, not ideally located I know as they're not behind you but my surrounds aren't either and I fire them to behind me and they work ok.

The heater really stuffs things up doesn't it. Unless you want to line your equiopment up against the window next to the balcony door then you can shift things over and have your rears fire in from the 3m area.

The Review + Pics: Enjoy :P

Seats: Lorenzo (Black)

...3 seater - ends recline

...2 recliners

Entertainment Unit: Home made Flexy Unit. (Black) - Search for thread on how to make...

Components: See signature (Aarons - Cherry, Aslan - Black)

Aslan Sub: use search button for "Aslan CW-12"

Interconnects:

Component cables: Cheapo Neotech JB stuff

Hifi RCA: Kordz Vortex

Subwoofer RCA: Kordz Vector Dynamix

Digital Coax: Kordz Quantum Dynamix

Curtains (block out): Bloody big windowed area required some home made curtains.... This process took over 8hrs of swearing, ****ing and moaning and around $200 total. After all the drama we are extremely pleased with the end result, and it actually makes the system sound a little better by absorbing some of the sound that was reflecting of the windows and creating standing waves.

Settings:

Aarons set to small

AVR cross over set to 60Hz - i found this to be the best setting for listening to Hifi and seems to work a treat with HT.

Sub cross over set at around 120-ish Hz (probably should wind it all the way up)

The Pic's:

Link1 - Recliners

Link2 - 3 Seater (ends recline)

Link3 - HT setup

Link4 - Entainment Unit

Link5 - Aslan Sub (CW-12)

Link6 - Rear of Ent. Unit. (spagetti cables)

Edit: Some more pics..

Link7 - Naked Fronts

Link8 - Naked Centre

Link9 - Totally Naked

Edit: Time for the mini review..

To be honest, its going to be a short review as I don't have the audiophile skills or lingo down to put together a meaningful review.

So far im extremely happy with my system when playing HT but i do feel im lacking that total enclosed by sound feeling due to the fact i have no rear speakers.... Its a pitty i simply dont have the room for them and im pretty sure the land lord would not want me to drill into his walls. The Aarons are suprisingly powerful and give a very clean sound. I don't notice any distortion but i never really turn the amp up above -15dB when watching HT.....

One thing i have noticed is how much better movies sound when you run them in DTS... Take Dare Devil for example... if you skip in to the movie about 7 mins to the scene where the boy loses his sight and wakes up in hospital - this scene sounds about 10 times better in DTS than DD. (running DTS at -20dB and DD at -16dB to compenstate for their differing levels). DTS has much better bass and much clearer high frequency sound, you really have to hear it to believe the difference.

Im sort of happy with the Hifi side of things but i have the feeling it could be much better. I'm finding it hard to get the right sub levels for hifi, i get them to how I like it for HT and then it seems a little too strong for HIFI. Im going to have a play with AVR settings when playing cds. I'll set it up perfect for HT and then dial back a few dB when listening to CD's (im pretty sure i can set this up with the AVR). The fact that im using a cheapo dvd player can not be helping my HIFI experience but i simply do not have the funds to spend any more money..... thats all the money the "Ministe of Finance" will allow me to spend until we pay off all of our current debt, which im happy to agree to. I must say im excited about getting a squeeze box later on  .. already started ripping music into flac :P

with regards to the Home Entertainment Unit, im extremely pleased with the result. Its extremely sturdy and provides the flexibility to move the shelves depending on the room needed for each component. (Although i need to take one of the shelves/partitions out as one of the spots is simply too small - i have moved the STB from top left to top right as it was over heating a little due to space constrictions). The unit does not vibrate at any time, and provides excellent cooling for all components. Its also a bonus to be able to access the back of the components so easily. O and it looks good in Black :P

Hi Dirtz ,Thanks for taking the time to write a review. The rack looks very impressive ,i have been thinking about building one of these since I first say design plans on an Italain website .Where did you get all the parts from particularly the threaded rod as I haven't been able to find any of that diameter here in Perth.

If funds allow have a listen to a Rotel reciever or look for one 2nd hand as this should give you much better 2ch performance and although it will not initially sound as whizz bang in ht mode it has a more realistic sound

ie higher fidelity .
