well, just bought one from JB in Melbourne, they were asking $246 (and have about 8 left), however i was able to negotiate a whole $6 off

they insisted $240 was cost and they cant go below it (and didnt believe it was $157 at narre warren). i called HN in the city and they said they have them for $499 and cant match $240, so i bought it from JB.

they also offered me a Pioneer VSX-AX2AV Receiver for $1500, so i might head back later for that.... its shaping up to be an expensive week!

Lucky Bugger...

Whats the chances of buying me one and posting it over to Sydney???

Ive been trying to track one of these all week and had no luck!!!!

And JB here doesnt seem to want to help me by getting one from another state!!!!

Does anyone here know if the Panasonic DVD Recorder Model EH65 uses the same tech and components (Faroujda chip) as the s-97??

Woohoo! This is good news, hopefully my local guy has sourced mine and it's on it's way to Brisvegas as we speak! I've already paid for it (2-Days Ago) and he insisted he was able to get me one...

Going to call them tomorrow to see if it's in transit! It's looking promising!

Hi, which link did you follow for easy firmware update instructions for the S-97. One of them linked in another thread seems quite complicated to go through? Just wondering whether you used any other instructions source?

thks, cools

It looks like the rest of the retailers with S 97 stock may be doing a price adjustment? I was at a retailer and they had just marked down there S 97 from $499 to $250! So if you want one I would start hassling HN etc

If the S97 is half price now, what is Panasonic going to do with the apparent DUD S52!!!

Cheers

S97 is superseeded, the s52 is/will be replacement

Yes Achjimmy, that is what worries me,the S52 has had some bad reviews.

Cheers

That is why you should grab a S97 now (if the lack of Dixv is not a problem).

Got a S97 for $250 from JB, had to do a little searching until I found that their database is linked to all the stores nation wide. The girl ordered one for me from another stor which had them in stock

Just brought the Panasonic S-97 to go with my Panasonic 500a, and it looks fantastic, Plays all Zones, and the price from Jb hi-fi was $270, ticket price of $299, there having a big sale b4 stocktake, so from $499 to $270 I had to do it!

I will get killed by the other half, but all is good!

So if anyone is interested in a ONKYO DV-S757, there is one now for sale!

Keep on trucking

I have a Toshiba SD 530E which cost $350,2yrs ago (great picture) with Jaycar component cable. Am I going to get a much better picture with an upscaling player like the Panna S97, will there be a "WOW" factor or will I even notice the difference?

Just curious to hear opinions from those who have changed to an upscaling player, money is not a real issue, just is it worth changing to"upscaling"?

PS I am viewing with a Panasonic 500A 106 cm,

Cheers :

I cannot say what will be the result with a Pana 500A and the S97 as I have not seen these two together. however I my experience the difference with a Denon 1920 via HDMI to a Hitachi 106cm is very marked (also had a Toshiba SD 530E which is now in the bedroom), to the point I was moved watch a whole bunch of DVD's just to marvel at the difference. Not all of this will be because upscaling because I have also seen a samsung upscaling DVD with my screen, and while it was better in some ways such as detail it was not as good for dark scenes with a lot of black crush. The Denon makes a huge difference in all areas, passed the real test the girls sees a big difference !!!

Thanks Aths, this is encouraging news,as I would like a player with at least HDMI output . I think hi-def DVD and blu-ray will take ages to get it right.

Cheers

If you have a good set of component cables don't expect a huge improvement in picture quality via upscaled HDMI on the S92. That's my opinion
