Does anyone here know if the Panasonic DVD Recorder Model EH65 uses the same tech and components (Faroujda chip) as the s-97??

Just rang Mel at JB Penrith and she has odered one for me from Tuggerah....

Should get it next week....Cant wait!!!!

Well the temptation was too much...

Just picked up one from JB in Preston for $170.

For that price incl free HDMI cable, it was not really worth arguing about.

Will be interesting to see if I can see vast improvement over my old Pioneer 535.

Just set up this player with HDMI and component to my new pana 42pv60a, however the player doesnt recognise the HDMI connection. The component connection is fine.

In the 'Display menu → HDMI status' it says not connected. Am I missing something? Perhaps its a faulty unit or cable :blink:

Any guidance would be appreciated.

PS Ive tried both HDMI inputs of the plasma.

Whats the go with this player and macrovision blocking? Is it only on upscaling? I am looking for a new player for my 576 pj so i dont need upscaling just top qual 576 picture.

If I cant get HDMI working tonight I will take back to JB tomorrow to test with other plasmas and/or cable. Anyone have any idaes on what I could try or what the problem could be?

Andy,

I have the s-97 connected to my Hitachi 8800 through HDMI with no problems at all...

Make sure you have pushed the HDMI connection all the way in and also make sure you enable picture and sound through HDMI on your s-97...

I must say the picture it delivers is brilliant...I used to use a pioneer progressive DVD player and the the picture of the s-97 is much sharper and more colourful.

Money well spent....

i have my s97 connected to a 8800 and i havent been very happy with the picture at all. ive still to play around with the settings etc, but neither 576,720 or 1080 output look very good. TV on the other hand looks great and 9 & 10 HD are stunning.

im actually thinking of switching to a pio 989 - anyone want to buy a barely used s97 :blink:

thats a pity DG I had it hooked up on the weekend to check out on my 8800 and thought it did a perfectly fine job on 1080i. did you make sure to setup picture / clour for it as need to do that for every input on the hitachi.

i used the THX optimiser to set-up the picture, but have found DVD's to be grainy, lacking colour (not vivid), lots of shimmering and images with horizontal lines flicker badly. this is using HDMI to the 8800.

i know there are plenty of settings on the player i havent looked into yet, i also havent checked what firmware version it has, so im sure with a bit more time i could figure it out.

still, i now want to start buying SACD's and DVD-A's, so might just bail on it and get the 989...

Am hoping to get an S97 today (going to call around JB stores in Melb to see if anyone has them). My question is tho, do JB sell decent 10m HDMI cables or am i better off just getting one from Selby or elsewhere?

Someone mentioned Frankston JB had some stock.

Not sure about the cables.

With mine I wanted to make sure I had really decent HDMI and Component cables for the long runs of 10M, like many here, purchased these off...

JB Hifi Kotara (in Newcastle) still has one on display so I am sure they still have some. They could ship it down to Penrith quite easily

Actually that one on display (connected to the Pioneer 50") is the only one they have left. There are two coming in from another store this week, one of which is mine! :blink:
