optusman Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 Going by this forum, there are issues it appears with every LCD on the market except the Bravia V series. I am looking for Bravia V owners or observers to point out the negatives with this set, are there any (except price) ?
Drizt Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 Price is definately the biggest down fall.. and really for most its the thing stopping them even looking at the bravia. Ill chime in for owen so he doesnt have to post here ... all lcds have inferior blacks. My response is, the blacks are good enough for me and my family. We dont regularly watch movies in pitch black (very well lit room), and even when we do the blacks are great on the bravia. next

I still think that 40"+ LCD's are not up to par with a good HD plasma either in price or performance, Dritz thinks different, the downtown sales drone thinks something else, etc. In the end of the day go have a look at one and judge for yourself. To be honest the Bravia and Samsung Milano's and the higher end philips are probably the best of the larger LCD's atm. I do personally think the Sony is a tad overpriced, especially when you see the Samsung Milano in action.

Does this mean the Bravia V has no other faults (because many faults are reported for other LCD's). Am i to assume PQ is flawless ?
LordG Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 I do personally think the Sony is a tad overpriced, especially when you see the Samsung Milano in action. Its a shame the Milano isnt HDCP compliant. No Blu-Ray or HD-DVD
Drizt Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Ahhh its got HDMI, and HDCP is pre-requisite.... or so i thought Its a shame the Milano isnt HDCP compliant. No Blu-Ray or HD-DVD
Hussla Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Its a shame the Milano isnt HDCP compliant. No Blu-Ray or HD-DVD First I heard about it been non-HDCP compatible.
LordG Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 First I heard about it been non-HDCP compatible. Forget I said anything, I was given the wrong information. Just rang Samsung and was assured that it is HDCP compliant.
optusman Posted May 29, 2006 Author Posted May 29, 2006 come on guys, try and fins SOME faults. if you don't, the Sony spies monitroing this forum will never reduce their prices!!!

madmax Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 It's only 1366 x 768 "enhanced definition". Most manufactureres are moving towards high-def 1920 x 1080.
Nhutty1503560152 Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 i just got a Bravia V Series 40" on the weekend and here are my observations so far. Channel 10's broadcast of the footy was dismall - it was very blocky and pixellated. On Channel 9 however, the footy was superb. Clear, no ghosting and excellent PQ. so far i love my new TV, it is doing everything i wanted so far. There are negatives which i will list. 1. only one year warranty? Whats going on with this? No confidence in your own product? Easily remedied with the extended warranty which i took out for 5 years. 2. only one HDMI port and no DVI, i would like to have at least one of each or two HDMI please. 3. i haven't been able to hook up my HD STB via RGB (VGA cable) to the LCD successfully, the picture just doesn't come out right. They're all the negatives i can think off right now, but they aren't major ones to do with the quality of the panel. With a decent HD source this panel is truly breathtaking
Drizt Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 I have noticed the ch10 football coverage can be very hit and miss.... some days / some venues have much better coverage than others.. ch9 football coverage is superb..... pretty much all the time. One disadvantage is only a single HDMI socket. But that said HDTV via component is still excellent. i just got a Bravia V Series 40" on the weekend and here are my observations so far.Channel 10's broadcast of the footy was dismall - it was very blocky and pixellated. optusman Posted May 29, 2006 Author Posted May 29, 2006 Summary thus far of PQ issues: - Ch 10 AFL (interestingly, that was the coverage I was watching when I thought the V was outperformed with the JVC DX 5 for motion) - Could be better in the future with 1920x1080 resolution Other issues are: - limited warranty - limited connectivity I assume this extends to the 32" version or are we only talking 40" version ?
frozenblaze Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 I own the 40" V series, and it really is flawless. The only exception, and one which is a MAJOR drawback, is that the new models launching soon will be 1920 x 1080 resolution. This resolution will be superior with soon to arrive HD/Blueray DVD players, and it seems these new TV's will be well priced (Similar to current top of the line 40"s). I will sell you mine for $4000 if you like, so I can buy the new Sony in a few months (That should answer exactly why Id wait, I wished I had)
DJAngelusZero Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 I wasnt as impressed with the Bravia as I thought I would have been. There are better LCD TVS out there. For high definition content, the bravia does well but when scaling it runs into problems. I didnt review this one myself, although I did use it quite a bit but here is our review of it. It only got 3/5 which according to our score system means it was above average but not exceptional. http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/index.php/...1;pid;1393;pt;1

Given that you used it but didn't review it, do you agree with the review ? Off the record of course
Garincha Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Considering the world cup is in SD only that could be quite a drawback, I'm considering the big bucks for a bravia but what a waste if it can't give a descent picture for world cup matches. Just wondering if there are bravia owners out there who watched the aus v greece game and thoughts on the PQ?

Hussla Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 What pisses me off, is that it would appear current display technology available on the Australian market is generally superior to any video source material currently available. Ie 1. Broadcast digital still in my eyes leaves a lot be desired 2. DVD is only SD. However that been said, spending up big on a top notch DVD player will make your HD display smile.
LordG Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 mate that coverage was **** house on every tv..... worst tv ever seen, quality wise... o and soccer sux I watched the replay on Sunday and the PQ was spot on, better than 9's AFL coverage!
Drizt Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Do a search on here, and you will see a massive thread ****ing about the broadcast I watched the replay on Sunday and the PQ was spot on, better than 9's AFL coverage!
Nhutty1503560152 Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 i didn't catch the Aus/Greece game on TV cause i was at the game live. hopefully the coverage in Germany will be heaps better. I was also debating about waiting for the new X Series Bravia, but the cost of it brand new would be too much for me. 40" V series should last me a few years until i can afford to upgrade so its not too big a deal for me.
LordG Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Do a search on here, and you will see a massive thread ****ing about the broadcast I know I have read all about it. Sunday's replay however was spot on.
