Spero D. Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 I just picked up the last VW50 from Trevor Lees, he has sold six in two days. Price wise he asked $6480 and was happy to take visa so I didn't even bother trying to negotiate a cheaper price as I was only ever going to ask him to match Soundcorp's price of $6499. Great price. Let us know how you get you got with it. Now all you need is a HD-DVD player to use with it
Highjinx Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 This is going for around US$4200.00 at some US sites. Hopefully the same here after Christmas.
TommyGNR Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Nice!Let us know how it plays. Will you be feeding it hd dvd or something else? Great price. Let us know how you get you got with it. Now all you need is a HD-DVD player to use with it Well don't get too keen. The cabinets screen speakers etc haven't been installed, so at the moment I am projecting onto this via a crappy old tosh DVD player over composite(no, I didn't mean compononent!!!) I might spin it around and project on to one of the white walls later tonight. I'll also cobble together a few rca leads to do some component video.

Trigg Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Man, I viewed this projector yesterday and it just blew me away. I will definately be purchasing this in the next 6 weeks!
TommyGNR Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Here is my first screenshot It's from an old western "Hang Em High" THe transfer is of rather low quality, and it's being projected onto bare sheets of plaster, not even a white undercoat, so there is significant colour shift. Nonetheless, for a 100" image it looks pretty good. Screenshot
Trigg Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Surprised Sony hasn't added these to their Website yet! It's in the Pulse Mag of course!
Jliang70 Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Surprised Sony hasn't added these to their Website yet! It's in the Pulse Mag of course! I like to see the price drop a little bit more but $6480 is very tempting price for a 1080P projector. Surprised Sony hasn't added these to their Website yet! It's in the Pulse Mag of course! Guest Naz Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Cheapest retail price I've found is Berny's Retravision in Sydney - 9969 1966 - for $6,399. I quoted the Soundcorp $6499 price to get them to drop it to that. But yeah I've noticed the slackers haven't put it on their SonyStyle site yet either. I called and you can order it from SonyStyle over the phone though. Although - Berny's are charging $300 for a five year warranty which seems steep.
Guest Naz Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Just bought my VW50 - admittedly over the phone but hopefully will have it for the weekend On a related note I've had a VPL-HS50 for the last couple of years and have really enjoyed it but have always set the lamp mode to Low. I know you can get a bit more brightness out of setting it to the High Lamp mode but was worried this would burn out the lamp more quickly. What's been other people's experience with the pros and cons of Low/High Lamp modes?

What's been other people's experience with the pros and cons of Low/High Lamp modes? I've had my Pearl a week and its not yet ISF calibrated nor have I received by Toshiba HD-A1. I've done a quick AVIA calibration (colour & hue), After looking at HD (Nine, Ten) and watching a couple of DVDs (576i PAL and 480p NTSC) it looks like Lamp High is the way to go. The HD-DVD player and ISF calibration will be in place late next week. I'll post some pics and more comments then. New HDMI cabling going in tomorrow. The imminent arrival of new hi-def sound formats had me go out and by a digital sound meter to calibrate my sound system on the weekend (I finally found out how to reset my preamp to English after it managed to switch 'itself' to German (everyone has been in denial here - apparently a 'gremlin').

Cheers, Curious yep, offer is genuine Would love to see if there is much diff on a number of levels would use hddvd, sddvd and foxtel through VP30 as 3 levels of source quality fully light controlled room, easy to set up 2nd pj on a table

If we hadn't chosen the pearl it would have been an 8720. However, there are a few problems. Firstly, I don't drive, so the pearl is getting anywhere on my steam. Secondly, I have my last uni exam on Friday which means I'll be in a rather poor state on Saturday(I've already taken the day off work), likewise Saturday night will be messy, so Sunday is out. Thirdly, the installation starts on Tuesday so the PJ needs to be at home from then on. I am thinking that the most feasible solution would be for norpus to bring his 8720 over here at some stage. Don't forget I am only 19 and still live at home with my parents!! It's not my house!! I am really keen to see the two side by side so I will try to find a way to make this happen.

Gee, you are a very lucky 19 years old. When I was 19 my old man was only able to get a 29'' CRT TV, stereo VCR and Yamaha prologic receiver and 5 speakers. Over the last 5 years I have bought 7 new speakers, a sub, a new receiver, bought/traded in two dvdo vps, a projector, two dvd recorders and a dvd player and HD Set top box. Now I am twisting my thumb and thinking about get my third projector in 3 years, I sold the 1st one to a friend. I just might just bite the bullet tomorrow or this weekend and go and see Mr Lees and get VW50. I too would be really interested in seeing a shootout between these 2. Tommmygnr, you have a pm (only just saw this afterwards) Do you have a fully light controlled environment? If not, better to use my place (saves me from dismounting mine too). Transport is no problem, I can pick you (and any family member) up and drop you back as I'm only 15 mins away. We could also try the CIH device I have that Mark Techer reckons the 720p projector may look better than a native 1080p. I'd like to see whether this is true in reality or not at my place, as that is certainly the other option here What about Sunday evening say 7-9?

Curious Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Take your current PJ into TasmanAV, Trevor Lees etc and do a shoot out there. I think the point is that Norpus has a rather unique set-up that will not dismantle simply (CIH) it would be good if Tommy could take up the offer of a lift and we'd all have great feedback by Monday!

norpus Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Cool Tommy, I know you are doing exams atm so posting this in case you are not replying to pms. (Good luck with the final exam today - don't get too smashed tonite - Oh OK now I remember how that was in my day you can forget I said that ) *Do you have a long spare hdmi or component cable you can bring along or should I source one elsewhere That way would be easier to run 2 projectors. Needs to be 6mtr plus I am thinking run one projector off component and other off hdmi, and then swap. If we can't find one (I sold my last two 8mtr component cables with last 2 pjs earlier this year), we will have to swap pjs using my permanent hdmi and remember. Be nicer to run both side by side if we can find a way. Any thoughts? **Does anyone know if the Toshi HDA1 can simultaneously run 2 pjs at once - one from hdmi and one from component?
Spearmint Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Norpus if you get stuck let me know by tomorrow and I’ll make you a component lead to whatever length you require.
