I should be able to do Sunday evening. I'll ask my dad tomorrow to see if he is interested in seeing the shootout. If he is he will drive, if not I'll need you to pick me up. I'll call or pm you on saturday when I know what's happening.

Attaboy Tommy, your online community appreciates your commitment to helping fuel our disease (upgraditis)

Can't wait for the results!!!

Cheers,

Trevor Lees sure do seem to have a lot of "last ones". I just bought their "last one" yesterday. Getting it delivered today.

Maybe they are 'second to last' ones

Nice!! What price did you pay?

They probably got a second shipment in. Sony forget to send Trevor's first order, so they arrived about a week late. That would reduced the wait time between orders for Trev. He sold 5 or 6 in two days, so I'm not surprised he ordered and sold out more!

Tommy, I know you are doing exams atm so posting this in case you are not replying to pms. (Good luck with the final exam today - don't get too smashed tonite - Oh OK now I remember how that was in my day you can forget I said that :D )

*Do you have a long spare hdmi or component cable you can bring along or should I source one elsewhere

That way would be easier to run 2 projectors. Needs to be 6mtr plus

I am thinking run one projector off component and other off hdmi, and then swap.

If we can't find one (I sold my last two 8mtr component cables with last 2 pjs earlier this year), we will have to swap pjs using my permanent hdmi and remember. Be nicer to run both side by side if we can find a way. Any thoughts?

**Does anyone know if the Toshi HDA1 can simultaneously run 2 pjs at once - one from hdmi and one from component?

Unfortunately the HDMI cable I have is behind plaster in the roof, and two sheets of soundstop on the wall, so it isn't coming out. I don't have any component cables either, we haven't had a display that accepts them until now. I will see if I can source an HDMI cable today but I doubt I will have time.

I may have one if you need it 12m Kordz hdmi but prob not till monday next week.

Thanks everyone

The Toshi doesn't seem to want to output both hdmi and component at once anyway

Will look to plan B and see if we can get a second A1 and another Batman Begins hddvd. I have a short hdmi that would work from another player next to the Pearl. Alebonau are you up for your player (for the forum!) ? :D

Also, we can relatively easily swap the single hdmi input into each projector swiftly and use one source (plan C).

Would be nice to see plan B with them both running side by side tho.

Are we still on for 7pm Sun tommygnr? Do I pick you up? Please pm me your number so we can have a chat - you have mine

My 15m HDMI cable is currently running across the floor atm to my plasma (I've been to lazy to run it thru the walls + ceiling and Im happy to loan it out for a few days or so - I work in the Tally Ho business park opposite HP & MYOB in Burwood East so PM me if interested and I'll bring it in for you (im sure I can live with component for a little while  ).

He sold the last one today and I spoke to Chris this afternoon and he will get more VW50 next

week, so I will probably get mine next week to test out with VP30/VP50 and possibly borrow

the Samsung bluray player. Chris told me he is a bit unsure if he will be able to offer the upcoming

stock of vw50 at $6480 and his pricing is still under discussion with Sony. I thought the comment was strange given the recent surge of Australian dollar I thought there should be further price reduction.

But it will give me a week so I can look forward to the shoot out run by Tommy and Norpus.

The increased price doesn't surprise me. When I first went in Trevor told he that he would get a cheaper price on his first order. Then when I went in to purchase he told me that because Sony forgot to ship his order he had got an even better deal, hence the $500+ drop from the first price he quoted me.

Actually I will be very surprised if the price heading north because of the increase in supply in the next

few months and also increase in competition from 1080P LCDs in the next few months. If you look at

the oversea market such as USA VW50 is now available at US$3600 and with a median street price of US$4200.

I'm sure Trevor can maintain his price  - Soundcorp just advertised again in Greenguide @ $6500.

Hmmm, the pearl is looking increasingly likely to be my March PJ upgrade (from my HS50) - now all I have to do is see one in action and I eagerly await Norpuses and Tommygnrs review.

PS, apologies if this post is somewhat hard to read, I've just consumed 2/3'rds of a bottle of scotch and operating a keyboard is some what of a challenge atm to say the least! :D

TommyGNR...........a question if you don't mind. What size thread is on the Pearl lens for those who wish to use ND or CC filters?

Thanks!

This is all great in theory - in waiting on the HD thing to really cement itself..

While the specs sound awesome, its 6 grand for 1st gen essentially technology.

Count me out, but I watch with avid interest!!!

1st gen?? I hardly think their 3rd gen model would be classed as that?

Yes, it is a 3rd generation SXRD projector. I just noticed the price of Sony VW50 has been cut further down in US and on one website I found the price is now down to USD$3390 and add shipping and possible import duty and GST it comes to around AU$5620 ( base on 0.76).

Definitely 3rd Gen and also definitely very exciting! SXRD technology is supposed to add a lot more than most other digital technologies.

Review for Sony VPL-VW50 is now up in www.projectorcentral.com....

I retract. Unquestionably very exciting. But is it not learning to walk before you can crawl?

How much media is actually out there that will fully exploit the potential here?

Well there are at least 26 of us HD-DVD owners & afaik about 3 BluRay owners on this forum so exploiting it's potential is not going to be difficult (over 100 HD titles available now per camp).

Although this is a concern

The most noteworthy flaw in the VW50's image quality is that it is softer than the competition. We noticed this in the demos at CEDIA, and were discouraged to find the same problem in our production unit. In our view, the primary rationale for investing premium dollars for 1080p resolution is to get the sharpest picture possible. If you don't care about maximum clarity and detail, one of the new 720p projectors for 1/3 the price will deliver most HD source images with close to the same high resolution quality as the VW50. We do not know the source of the softness in the image--it could be the lens, something inherent in the SXRD chips, something in the video processing, or some combination thereof. But the fact is that other 1080p products in this same price range are able to deliver noticeably sharper images, both with SD and HD mate
