Stump Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I was getting the AVR 2807 $2000 aust but can buy the AVR3805 (old stock no hdmi) $1400 aust. Which would be considerd best value. Also buying the Denon dvd 1920 and running my 9yrs old Vaf DC-X (front) with new G4 DC-6 (centre) and G4 DC-3 (rear) My tv is the Sony KVHR 36M31(crt) and my amp is the Hafler DH 200 101 pre amp. (25 yrs old) So as you see I dont upgrade often and happy to pay for a product that last... Thanks
drkrac Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I guess it depends if you want HDMI switching or not. If not, then the 3805 is a bargain at almost 1/2 the price it was a year ago.

HDMI is probably the key difference; the 1920 has HDMI and can feed either to the 2807 or directly to any new TV you may get in a few years. The 2807 can be the hub for all devices and upscale pictures from lower resolution sources. If that is not important, go 3805 I was getting the AVR 2807 $2000 aust but can buy the AVR3805 (old stock no hdmi) $1400 aust. Which would be considerd best value. Thanks 3805 gives your Denon Link (not sure of value?), 10W more per channel, 2807 iPod connectivity (why would anyone want that ???). 2807 has a difficult to use remote. 3805 had different remote which is easier.
matt Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Depending on where you are the 2807 can be had for $1700-$1800. Check around on the forums.
Herman1503560788 Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Hey Abbey, Im basically in the same boat youre in. I was looking at a whole bunch of stuff around this price range and Im looking at the 3805. Im not really convinced on the HDMI and I think the 3805 in general just looks better. Let me know what you end up doing as im still able to be influenced but am leaning quite heavily to the 3805
50mxe20 Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I currently have the 3805 (and I love it) and I don't miss the HDMI.
Guest EZYHD Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 If you get the 3805 you would run sound thru amp and can always run your DVD player if it has HDMI direct to your TV, if you finish up with more than one HDMI devise you can either use a splitter or splitterbox down the track.
norpus Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I currently have the 3805 (and I love it) and I don't miss the HDMI. Ditto Both are good - you can't go wrong really
fawlty99 Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 The 10w difference would mean nothing in real terms. I also believe that video direct to TV is better than via an amp. My pref would be to save the money and get the 3805.
Drizt Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 The 10w difference would mean nothing in real terms. I also believe that video direct to TV is better than via an amp. My pref would be to save the money and get the 3805. There is no loss switching HDMI... so its a non issue really. If you want to use HDMI and have multiple devices I would go with the 2807, if you dont care about HDMI then I would get the 3805. Can't really go to far wrong with either choice.
Guest Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Not sure whether music from CDs is an issue here. The 3805 is better than 2805; I have not listened to 2807, but I suspect it is similar.
SDL Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 There is no loss switching HDMI... so its a non issue really. I know this is true in theory but just setting up my 2807 last night I ran HDMI from my HD STB and HDMI to my HD Plasma and the picture didn't look as sharp on Home and Away (Okay I don't normally watch this, it was just the only HD programming on at the time) as when I ran component direct to the Plasma. I will try a direct comparison tonight if I get some time as it might just be the eyes finding fault, or looking for faults, where they don't exist.
Stump Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 Thankyou eveyone for your input.Given the price reduction of the 3805 I will go that way for value. As I dont have HDMI tv the 3805 will due for a while. With money saved should I go for a more upmarket dvd player than the Denon dvd 1920 to make use of the Denon Link for audio??
drkrac Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 If you can wait a little while, the upcoming 2930CI looks like a great player and has the Denon Link. 2930CI
fawlty99 Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 The denon link is only useful if you are into DVDA or SACD which can't be passed via the digital links to the AVR. The higher quality signal passes via the analogue cables & can't be processed by the AVR as can the digital signal.
50mxe20 Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 If you can wait a little while, the upcoming 2930CI looks like a great player and has the Denon Link.2930CI Unfortunately, that is a DVD player not an amplifier which is what the topic of this thread is about. Did you mean to stick this in the "best DVD player" thread?

Stump Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 With a last minute change ended up with the Denon dvd 1920 $520 and the denon AVR 2807 $1780 .Can now be ready for HDMI ,will stick with the Sony KV HR36M31 until Australia goes full digital. Thanks Again and will give some feedback when I get the speakers going.
SDL Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I also got the 2807 this week for a similar sort of price. The only problem buying midweek is getting time to get it all set up and have a listen. Hope you enjoy yours.
