lacehim Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Hello, I wanted to set up my computer with a DVI output to HDMI, I have a DSE 10m HDMI Cable, and a DVI to HDMI Adapter that I bought from selbys. So I hook up the computer, and as the computer boots you can see the XP logo on boot up perfectly. The one with the black screen and straight logo. After that is all goes strange. There are green grid lines and fuzz on the blue XP booting screen and when I get to the desktop it's the same. I've tried everything. FYI I have an Gigabyte X600 video card, and I'm using Omega drivers. I can only select 60Mhz and changing the size of the screen doesn't help. Any ideas????
Luke Smith Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 i've got basically the same setup (i'm using it to type this). Boot into safe mode okay? Mine works with 1280x720 at either 50 or 60Hz, no worries.
lacehim Posted October 1, 2006 Author Posted October 1, 2006 Tried safe mode, it just ended up blank, no picture after all the drivers were loaded. I've just updated to the newest Omega drivers and I will retest.

I've just updated to the newest Omega drivers and I will retest. Try the ATI drivers instead of the Omega ones .... Then boot into VGA mode (will be 640X480) then if it works, try increasing to 1280X720 Funny thing is i know someone who took back their TW600 the other day because the HDMI was stuffed ... the problem started gradually by exhibiting strange colours, then no signal messages ... Epson are replacing the unit with a new one.
lacehim Posted October 8, 2006 Author Posted October 8, 2006 Right oh, I really need help with this now. I selected the lowest setting possible on the newest ATI drivers that I installed, 640x480 and the display colours are perfect. It's clear and I'm typing on it now. I can also select 720x480 and that works too. Every other size just comes up with the same green banding both vertically and horizontally. I really would like to have a bigger screen to play with. I also seem to be locking into 60Hz for bigger resolutions, not that changing it seems to make it any better. FYI I'm using a DVD-HDMI Adapter and a 10m HDMI-HDMI straight though to the PJ. Anyone got any ideas? The Info on the projector says HDMI RGB-Video 6400x 480 60.01Hz And there are some numbers and letters in the sync info.
glennb Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Anyway to rule out the cable as being faulty? Can you use another one (shorter) or maybe try with a component output?
lacehim Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 I don't have anohter HDMI cable. I think I might just buy another one. Anyone got any ideas to get a quality HDMI - HDMI 10m for under $150? I think this DSE one must be a low grade cable because I my DVD player will play on 576P but not 720P, and once you ramp up the resolution on the computer it just goes all green. Could be transmission loss? What do you think?

Could be transmission loss? What do you think? lacehim, I cant comment on connecting a computer, however, when i first set up my dvd to pj i used a 'no brand' hdmi cable (and with a dvi-hdmi adapter), and as soon as i sent a 720 signal to the pj the image went 'pink and snowy'. Replaced with a 'htcustomcables' HDMI cable and this resolved my issue. Can now send 720 and 1080 from dvd to pj and displays perfectly. Still using same dvi-hdmi adapter. Cheers, john
lacehim Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 Cheers Raja. I think you just confirmed my issue and a new cable is required. I checked out htcustomcables but being a noob in HDMI I got a little lost with all the names and brands. I saw a Krystal 10m one for $179 an they have another on special for 12m at $200. What type are folk using???? $200 really is my limit on a cable.

For what it's worth, a lot of people on these forums buy from htcustomcables and while not the cheapest, I've never heard a complaint against them. Sometimes it's better to spend the extra $50 and get peace of mind.
glennb Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I'm using a HDMI-HDMI Kordz 15m and DVI adapter from htcustomcables from my HTPC to my TW600 without any problems.
lacehim Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 Anyone use Lindy brand cables? There isn't much info for the 12m Razor on the other site? I just wonder what the difference is between that and the Krystal ones? Also can you use a 10m VGA cable? Or is that too long?

Lindy generally make a quality product, and they wont stuff you about if you want to return it. I've got an 8m "Connexia" cable and HDMI/DVI adaptor, and its fine up to 1920x1080 60hz on my tw600

I just wonder what the difference is between that and the Krystal ones? Also can you use a 10m VGA cable? Or is that too long? I'd been using a 10m Lindy cable in the original install which worked fine. Unfortuntaley during the install the electricians got a little too 'enthusiastic' and stripped a good deal of the insulation away as I found out when I gutted the room for a renovation. I've replaced it with a more robust one (and it's a Kordz one as well) which I will install myself. I'm also installing a VGA cable for the PC rather than HDMI as it's quite a bit easier to setup from the PC than HDMI but loses none of the picture quality.
lacehim Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 I was thinking about putting a VGA in too. You can get a 10m for about $70 from online. Not sure if that length could cause problems. The fella that I got an email from at htcustomcables said it could be my graphics card not having enough power to supply the HDMI cable for that length. He did say that I could return the HDMI cable if it didn't work out. I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket and would rather buy two cables and have both options if required.
lacehim Posted October 27, 2006 Author Posted October 27, 2006 Just a quick update to this. I bought a 12m Kordz Razor from Gregory at htcustomcables and highly recommend this. I had no problem with a 1280x720p image displaying from my computer using the same DVI-HDMI adapter and the DVD player produced a nice clear upscaled 720P image too. Well worth the money. The DSE cable was a waste of money over this distance, and although it work at the most basic level it left a lot to be desired in comparison with a quality $200 Kordz Razor! Thanks to Gregory from htcustomcables (with no thanks for Australia Post for losing the first cable) for all his help! And you guys for pointing me in his direction!
lacehim Posted October 27, 2006 Author Posted October 27, 2006 I don't really think it's worth returning, I will probably just keep it and bung it in with all my garage sale that I'm having in a few weekends time. It does work, it just doesn't seem to have the cable quality to do what I wanted it to do. As they say, buy cheap buy twice! But we all learn by our mistakes.
