you can reorder the channels by marking one as fav, then sorting in order of fav, it moves that channel to the top.

you just repeat this untill all the channels are the way you want them.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. My usual preferred order is 2, 20, 22, 3, 30, 33, 5, 50, 6, 60, 8 and 80. (Not sure why I bother with 30, but anyway.....)

Over the last 2 weekends I have noticed a few of these units in stores again.

I have seen both the HD160 and HD250 models on the shelves of some stores that had none the month before.

Not sure if old stock or not.

Did notice one store had the HD160 listed as having a 12 month Warranty.

Previously they came with 2 year warranty.

I saw the units in a Good Guys near DFO Essendon and a JB Hi Fi Hoppers Crossing.

I was looking at getting a Homecast and didn't take a big notice of prices. I think the HD160 was in the $350 to $400 range and the HD250 in the $450 to $550 range but could have been more. If the pricies had been great they may have got my attention more and I might have considered one. My HD250 has had no real issues for some time. - Touch Wood.

I was having issues with thr 160. Rang dgtec & took it to the factory at Dandenong South for the firmware upgrade. (They are in the process of moving to Keysbourough.)

Took about 10 minutes & it was done.

The tech said this model is now being distributed again. The issue with the usb stick is still being looked at. They are trying to source the right sticks from overseas, even ebay. Then hopefully they are going to put the model of the sticks on the web. He also mentioned that people are not returning the sticks that have been sent out.

The upgrade has made a huge difference to the performance. Hope it keeps going as good as it is now.

Changing the hard drive to more gb is as simple as swapping it over. Four screws & the cable.

Anyway if you live close to Dandenong/Keysbourough ring dgtec & take it in if you need the upgrade. I rang just after 8am & got straight through.

I must be a sucker for punishment......

A change to my normal routine meant that I had about 20 minutes to kill at Woden this afternoon, so I wandered into JB Hi-Fi again. This time I happened to notice some assorted gear in a corner, with mark-down prices on most of them. And what should be amongst it?...... A DG-HD160PVR (rear USB version), without a price. So with FMB's recent $60 purchase in mind, I picked it up and headed towards the counters, with a view to getting a price on it. The first price that they gave me was $250. I then made mention of someone buying one recently for $60, but unfortunately I didn't know which store when asked, so there went some of my bargaining power. I ended up paying $150, and like FMB's, just the bare unit.

Then came the punishment part..... the firmware upgrade. Unlike the three "front USB" version units that I've successfully upgraded by using a 128MB xD card in my digital camera, this one gets part way through the process (about 14 steps of the progress indicator) then reboots. Bugger. :(

It's got 160603 in it at the moment, and at least it seems stable so far. But it took a while with unit #1 before it started reboot looping on Prime and WIN.

So I guess I'll call DGTEC / Hills and run it past them, to see if they have any ideas, short of returning it under warranty.

It was Macgregor in Brisbane. It was even marked on the shelf at $60. There was a normal $399 price tag and beside it a small tag which just read No box, No manual, No remote $60. It wasn't very clear so I had to ask. I'm sure many people walked past it without even noticing.

So if anyone else finds one in a similar situation, tell them to check at JB Macgregor.

I suppose you want your remote and manual back now Colin?

FYI

I was just in at Myer Indooroopilly. They have the Dgtec HD 160GB PVR in black for $290. They've also got the Toshiba Xe-1 advertised at $259.

No, not at all. I dug out my original remote to check it out with initially, but I've since configured the Logitech Harmony 550 in the family room to drive it, and the original remote has gone back in the drawer. (My other DG-HD160PVR is in the main bedroom, where there's a Logitech Harmony 525.)

I decided to go back to Myer and buy the black one. I paid $270, if only I had known about your $60 and $150 purchases before I went back. This is now my 4th Dgtec PVR, I am clearly an idiot.

To my surprise, the quality of the interface and more importantly the picture is just outstanding, I am using the component interface. After setting it up I found the following:

s/w ver: VS160603

h/w ver: S160406

I know the h/w version is different to the silver ones I returned to DSE.

Anyone had experience with these?

What is the latest s/w version for the black one, the usb is rear mounted?

Note: they didn't have any more stock of the Toshiba Xe-1 but they had plenty of e-1's and ep-10's.

All things considered, I still reckon that anything under $300 is a fair price for a new one with all its bits and no hardware faults. I suppose that I could say that as part of my "SD to HD PVR upgrade program", that I now need a third one for the lounge room, but I'd get shot if I went and paid that much for another one.

Are you sure that the black one that you bought was the 160GB model? The only black one that I've ever seen was the 250GB model.

EDIT: Saw > bought.

Yes it's a 160gb unit, I just finished setting it up and formatted the disk just to be thorough.

So far, I'm impressed.

Those s/w and h/w versions are identical to the silver DG-HD160PVR that I bought yesterday. As per my previous posts, so far I haven't been able to stick VS161005_T2 into it; it always reboots at the same point in the upgrade process. (I called DGTEC support this morning, and Ronnie said that she'd get someone to call me after 12, but I haven't heard back from anyone yet.)

So try A_VS161005_T2 and see how you go. If successful, you'll gain the ability to export via USB, and what I think is slightly nicer looking graphics on the menus, etc. And should it decide to start going into a reboot loop on Prime and/or WIN, the latest firmware fixes that, too.

(My other DG-HD160PVR, a silver one with USB at the front, is h/w version S161001.)

Thanks for that.

This black one has a totally different interface than the silver ones I've had.

It even gives you the name of the show playing when you change a channel, the other ones I had didn't do this.

I tried to do the s/w upgrade, no luck...

I just had another crack at upgrading mine again..... and got it on about the third attempt! :) :) :)

So I now have s/w version VS161005_T2 in both of mine, but the h/w version of my rear USB one changed from S160406 to S161002. Oh well, this is DGTEC we're dealing with. :P

I know I've read it somewhere but what are you using to do your firmware upgrade?

I tried 4 different USB sticks with no luck.

Yes, I tried a few different USB sticks without success also. What works for me (eventually, in some cases....) is a 128MB xD card inside a Fuji FinePix A330 digital camera. I tried the same xD card in my card reader, but no joy, maybe because it's a 36-in-1 reader, and it doesn't see the xD card as the first device.

If I had a USB stick / card that'd work then I'd be happy to pass it around to forum members, but the camera stays here, I'm afraid. You're welcome to bring your PVR here, of course. :P

She said the same thing to me last week. I ended up calling back to sort my issue out.

I think I read in this thread where someone said this unit will not record 2, 7, 9, 10.

Found out it was true last night. Set it to record Stargate on 7. Got up this morning & it is still recording.

Turn the TV on, hit info on the remote only to see the recording at 00.00 & still active.

I just called her back to say not to worry, as I've since sorted it out. She apologised.

Weird. Canberra doesn't have 7, 9 and 10; we have Prime, WIN and SC 10 instead. But we have 2, of course, and mine records that (and everything else here) OK.

An afterthought.....

Set it to record Stargate on 7. Got up this morning & it is still recording.

According to the guide, SG Atlantis should've gone from 11pm to 12am. Recording from the EPG would've created an entry from 2250 to 0010..... I wonder if the crossover to Feb 29 confused it? (If it was SG-1 then I would've recorded it myself, but Atlantis irritates me.)

Have you tried to record anything on those channels since?

You're using a camera? Would never have thought to do this. I might try our little Canon, it uses SD cards.

Tried by pressing record on the remote this afternoon. Damn thing worked.

Maybe you hit it on the head with the date theory.

I'll try again with the timer & see what happens.

Greetings,

Recently bought the Digitec 250GB PVR. I have the following versions running on it. Software: VS160502 Hardware S160402. I'm not sure if these are the latest available, however i have read through the last 6-7 pages of this thread to see if i can determine with no luck.

The PVR seems to be behaving itself OK so am curious to know if an upgrade is necessary and what does it do exactly?.

Apprecite responses.

Timbo.
