OK OK..I'm blaming the search function, I honestly missed that thread...

I thought it was strange after all the anticipation...

I formally own up to being a nob...

Anybody brave enough out there to offer an opinion how the new Toppy might measure up against the DGTEC HD-250PVR?? Or is the DGTEC likely to be just a more advanced version "footy" on previous models? Do any of these output 576i over HDMI, or only 1080i/720P/576P?

As we know HD channels aren't 576i, but most boxes can switch their output to SD, just want to know whether their HDMI out will support SD 576i

I can't say for sure, but it would seem to me that it wouldn't make sense to not be able to show the SD channels over HDMI. This would have the effect of making you change the output whenever you viewed an SD channel. Also there is no mention of "de-interlacing" SD channels to output over HDMI.

Id;e agree with you drkrac ;If the box had native resolution switching. Because the majority make you choose the output res I think 576p through hdmi is the lower limit- like component;rgb;dvi.I wish 576i[hdmi] was possible so an anchor bay scaler or similar could be used

The Teac does 576i through HDMI. That's a good thing because 576p doesn't display correctly on the NEC plasma. And HD a lot of the time presents glitching sound and audio!

Yep, must admit I was basing my comments on my experience with the TEAC which has native res switching (including 576i over HDMI).

You should not be paying over $1000 and hopefully by the 18th of December 2006 icetv (http://www.icetv.com.au) will offer a bundle with a 12month subscription for around that price - now that would be HOT!

ALSO

There is a chance the Topfield TF7000HDPVRt will have firmware upgrade available to enable upload of icetv via USB port.

!!!You have to love the winners at icetv!!!

I understand that the 7000 wont have TAP support. From reading threads here thats what sets the Toppy apart from the rest. It almost turns it into a media centre without actually having one.

Will it be possible with firmware upgrades in the future to have TAP support?

Or will a totally new unit with different physical specs be needed?

No TAP support, I am pretty sure Topfield were getting sick of people turning the STB/PVR into a media centre and when it didn't work/crash people would say Topfield is s**t. My opinion - if you want to hack and experiment with media centre, build one - if you want a professional, stable hardware solution with dedicated HD performance, buy a PVR.

This PVR is based on Broadcom BCM70xx main processor platform, This platform is the same as in the J35 Toshi and Sony HD PVR's. Topfeild's SD PVR's are based on NEC processors. Unfortunately NEC do not currently have a COFDM HD MPEG-2 solution.

On what info do you base that statement?? It is TAPS that have elevated the TOPPY into a cult product, and for that Topfield would be thankful. When it doesn't work or crash, Toppy users actually turn to each other (through forums worldwide) and find an answer.

Which HD PVR currently out can honestly be called a professional, stable hardware solution? (LG perhaps?)
