pgdownload Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Maybe keep the 5000 for PVR work and just get a cheap HD STB for the occasional other useage? At least for now. It occurs to me that I wonder why the sound component of HD is not made available to SD players. All digital info for a show travels in a single mux and a simple SD PVR is quite capable of extracting out SD or HD video and/or sound and saving it to the drive. The hard part is the processing power needed to convert the HD video to analogue for display. However I wouldn't imagine that's an issue for the sound side of things. Why doesn't someone release a SD PVR that also grabs the HD soundtrack?Regards Peter Gillespie

pgdownload Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I have often pondered the same thought.I dropped a line to Mediastar as they seem to be quite innovative. They looked into it a few years back but unfortunately the HD and SD audio (& oresumably video) streams are not in sync when broadcast.Regards Peter Gillespie
50mxe20 Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Has anyone connected a DVD-R to the topfield via S-Video? Does it work. I can get sound but no video.
Robert E Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Has anyone connected a DVD-R to the topfield via S-Video?Does it work. I can get sound but no video. Did you try toggling through all the V.Format options using the button? I'm thinking 576i should work. I know it does by composite to my VCR. Robert

Robert I knew it would be something simple. And I thought I had thought of that but obviously I hadn't. Must have had a brain blockage. It works fine now. Thank you very much. Lyle
Austen Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 ......They looked into it a few years back but unfortunately the HD and SD audio (& oresumably video) streams are not in sync when broadcast. I know it's not the same thing, but this sounds like it could be true, I've noticed the analogue and HD Digital are about a second out. I'll give it a try later today.............. Austen.

deangelj Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Unable to get timers to fire when Tf7000 is in standbye mode.Work fine when unit is on? Have try having timers in auto/manual. Any sugestions appriaciated. Yes there is still a bug there with this firmware. The trick is when you put it into standby you should get a clock symbol on the front panel - if you don't then it won't wake and fire the timer. So if you don't see the clock, turn off the power at the wall and try again until you see the clock. cheers, john

I'll give it a try later today.............. Correct Austen,I have just purchased a Samsung LCD HD TV I also have a CRT TV with SD STB in an adjoining room. the SD STB signal is about one second earlier than the HD setup. I am about to replace my NEC DVD/VCR combo with a HD HDD PVR, currently my choice is a Topfield, I notice a few on ebay (new) fetching various prices up to about the $700 mark is this a good price? I am not committed to Topfield and would be happy to listen to advice, my Stereo setup is Yamaha pro logic GX 70. Go easy on me I am a newbie !!! Col
diesel Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 The Toppy is a good unit and getting better alll the time with new FW releases. Topfield Tf7000hdpvrt Hd Pvr - Best Price Hd Toppy 7000 At Hardly Normal For $699, Are all the bugs ironed out now? Another unit to compare is the BeyonWiz DP-P1 - very similar units
pgdownload Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 $700 seems about as good as it gets at the moment. As mentioned the BW is the other main contender but I believe that will be $200-$300 more expensive. It can be connected direct to a PC though and can play downloaded content (if that's important). ozboyz Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Harvey Norman in Sydney, Moore Park did not have them in stock. All the other players ie Bing Lee, Domayne etc would not budge far from the RRP of $1299. Bing Lee said $1100 at Moore Park Domayne at Waterloo/Alexandria said they would go to $900. Alan

ponncho Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 spoke to someone at a dick smith powerhouse and was sure that a new high def pvr from topfield was due soon .Has anyone heard of this?
pgdownload Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Might be the 7000 finally... Seriously though, the 7100 is apparently in the works. Doubt well hear anything of it in stores before the new year though. Essentially it will be a 7000 with some combo form of wired/wireless connectivity. You could try contacting ACA (www.itopfield.com.au) for mor info if you wanted. Regards Peter Gillespie

Alan Hello ozboyz Letting you know that I have purchased a Topfield TF7000HDPVRt in black from West Coat HiFi in Rockingham WA for $630 (RRP around $1200), I also picked up a Yamaha RX-V3800B for $1750 (RRP around $2500) from the same store. (I paid $7 for each to be delivered as they are South of the river and I live North, I cannot imagine me wanting to go shopping down there, so delivery was not a concern). The Yamaha Receiver arrived within two days and the Topfield was picked up by the courier (having just arrived at their store this morning) and will most likely be delivered to me on Monday morning (shame the courier did not work on Saturday). P.S on this point, never use Fastaway courier service, there is no service, rude and unfriendly, and they told WestCoast HiFi that they would deliver to me the same day they collected. I called their office and she said, they either pick up or drop off, not both, then said "you get that". Anyway, hope to have my receipt for the two items with the Toppy when it arrives on Monday. I did a fair bit of work to get the price at $630, though it is probably way cheaper for you guys over East. (And yes it is the 250GB HD model with USB support to 0.5TB external disc). I can see that is all they have charged to my credit card. Good luck shopping. Mark
DaveMews Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 very nice price... thats scraping the last dregs from the barrel margin wise for the retailer, even including rebates.
woodvaliens Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 very nice price... thats scraping the last dregs from the barrel margin wise for the retailer, even including rebates. Thanks for that Crusher I still was not sure if I should have stopped at that price while I was shopping around, but by this point of price I was receiving colourful language from some of the dealers Ithat popped into or called. Seeing them sell for around $570 to $600 ish on EBay was getting me thinking that I was still paying a premium. You have made my day with your last. Thanks again Mark

Though I doubt that West Coast HiFi in Western Australia would sell any junk, I was just surprised at them competing with Eastern States pricing, not being a box mover like GG or Retravion. I understand from the Sales guys that my Toppy was coming from Toppy in Eastern States and was the latest version with latest firmware. I hope it is not a lemon, I just hate having to wait. It was pretty bad having to wait a couple of days for my Pioneer LX508A to arrive and be installed, but then it worked out to be a good omen and worth the wait. Thanks again Crusher Mark
oxesspleen Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Hi everyone, first post here. Where in Melbourne is the cheapest place to buy a TF7000HDPVRt. My HD set top box went bang yesterday. Would like to go out and buy a new one of these soon. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Stu
