Obviously the 7100 is the better machine, and if I had the dosh id probably go with it... but on a limited budget is the 7000 worth looking at still?

Provided you have a good signal strength and don't have faulty hardware (which is what the warranty is for) then there are a lot of 7000 users enjoying this machine.

Just at present don't expect the FTA EPG to always display all the details available and if you use subtitles then there are issues as well as copying files to an external HDD where some users have problems and others don't.

But at the end of the day the decision is yours. Just don't be put off by the bad experiences of some as clearly there are a lot of satisfied users enjoying the easy to use interface, fact service changes and slick skip function.

Most of the issues have been fixed or are rare enough not to cause too much grief. If you're in a good reception area then the only issue you're likely to experience on the latest firmware (99.84R5) will be the incomplete/missing EPG.

I can only find the 99.82 release on the itopfield website.

This seems to be working well except for the completely missing EPG.

Where can I find this newer release and does it have the EPG apart from SBS?

The EPG should not be completely missing. Try performing a factory reset to restore the EPG. The main EPG bug is that it has 'gaps' (i.e. missing programs) and no, this has not been fixed in 99.84.

The EPG used to work in earlier versions of the firmware and this is one of the most frustrating things about Topfield: they have zero quality control when it comes to their firmware releases. They try to address one problem and re-introduce previously fixed bugs or new bugs in functionality that used to work!

99.84 was never officially released by Topfield but there should be a link to it over on the Topfield forum.

Anyone considering upgrading to 0.99.84 should read this post from Indigo first

Hi I was wondering if anybody could please help me. I set up my new topfield 7000 via componant cable to my CRT television. The connection on the TV is 480i. For some reason the display does not show the colour red at all, instead all reds display as a greenish colour. When I connect via composite I do not have this problem and all colours are normal (but I cannot view high def channels). The TV has no HDMI connection. I want high def mainly so I can record a few of the different progams on Ten HD. Would there be any reason for the lack of red in the picture? Thanks again if anybody could help.

How are the component inputs on your TV labeled?

There are different component types and it could be a compatibility issue.

Further, when you connect by composite and set the V.Format to 576i are you saying you can't see the HD services?

The PVR takes the HD channel signals and downscales them for the analogue outputs (Composite), so you can still record HD content and watch it back on your TV using composite, but component connections would give considerably better PQ.

Have you tried another device on the component connections on your TV to rule out the TV is not at fault?

Don't fall over from the shock but the SBS EPG is now working for a full week (i.e., showing 1 weeks programs). I assume that this is something to do with the implementation of "Freeview". At this stage only the SD channel (3) is showing info, hopefully HD30 will follow suit.

Hi I was wondering if someone could help or at least point me in the right direction. I purchased a Topfield 7000 for my parents and it has been working well the last 3 months. However the other night while recording it suddenly stated "RUN". My mum turned the machine off and then turned it back on again, and now a message on the TV keeps displaying "no hard drive". She can turn it on and off but cannot record and cannot access the hard drive which is full of shows. Is there a simple solution to this that will allow her to get the shows back and start recording again or does something more drastic need to be done?

Thanks heaps, Ian.

Also, there is at last, new firmware available for the 7000 and it seems to be the firmware that we should have had all along. Once you get it working again (hopefully with the factory reset), download and install the new firmware.

Software Version : 1.00.10 , from http://www.itopfield.com.au/ , go to Products: TF7000HDPVRt and download from there.

My EPG has been completely missing (i.e blank) since early last year, had done a couple of updates but it never came back. I'd given up on it and been having to do recordings manually.

I'm gonna give this new 1.00.10 Firmware a whirl and hope for the best...

Before I updated I noticed my EPG was working. Must have been fixed when I did a factory reset and update a month ago...

Anyway the new Firmware is loaded and the EPG still works. :)

So, on this new firmware, the 1.00.10 version...

Is it stable?

Is it actually good?

Does it show your stored timers with the name you gave the timer, or back to the old way of having just the channel/time?

Should I upgrade from .84 to this?

No judder at all, no it doesn't show the program title in the timers any more but it does on the list of recorded programs. Is it good? In my opinion yes, very.
