using component and at night to watch a dvd i always use the home theatre mode, with about t2, and 50-55 for all the other colour and contrast settings. i have found for day time viewing the family room works well, just depends how well light controlled your room is, (note i dont have a calibration tool either (just my eyes))

i can look toight and tell you exactyl tomorrow

I have mine set to the same settings as the review at projectorreviews.com. Seems to look ok to me via component. From memory it is the default settings for home theatre mode. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) most reviews indicate that out of the box not many settings need to be changed to obtain a decent picture.

no that is totaly correct, mine is very close to the default and maybe just adjusted 1 or 2 spots (which isnt much)

I recently calibrated my W100 using the DVE disc..

Out of the box, the image looked very good, but felt that some of the flesh tones were a bit exagerated, and some colours looked a bit over the top for my liking..

After calibration, the images look superb and I still marvel at how good my 106" movies look..

These are my settings..

Home Theatre Mode

Colour temp....T2

Brightness.......48

Contrast..........49

Colour............ 38

Tint.................46

Of course these settings apply to my screen and a totally light controlled theatre and may not work for other screen material, but might be worth trying..

100%,

I tried the settings in the 50-55 range, prior to using the DVE disc..and while some of the images looked outstanding, I seemed to lose detail in shadowy scenes..There was a bit of variation in picture quality between bright and dark scenes..

With current settings, I get good shadow detail and a good balance between bright and dark scenes..making it an overall smooth transition between various lit scenes..

profsproi i was at home playing with the settings a little last night also, and i did relise i was loosing a bit a defination in the darker/shadow area's. so i may try to use your settings,

I got mine from JB Hi-Fi for about the same price..

On the disc it gives patterns for Contrast, Brightness, Colour, Tint and Sharpness..as well as a lot of Audio tests.

It also comes with a set of colour filters that you use to get correct colour and tint balance..

It's all clearly laid out on the disc and is easy to follow, you shouldn't have any problems..

Is it that bad?

I was planning on a 100" screen at a similar distance.

None of the reviews have really mentioned excessive screen door.

I don't know what type of screen RKH is using, but I can tell you that I don't see ANY screen door effect on my 106" screen from my viewing position which is 11'6" away..

Not until I move to within 6' of my DIY screen do I see any SDE.

i see a tiny bit but my screen is too big for my small room, honestly it doesnt bother me.. the tiny bit i see is only there if u look for it and only really visable with text.. if i could go back another metre it would be gone, the SDE is awesome considering its a 480p, if u got the right room it wont be a problem im sure

Gidday All,

I've owned a crt pj which has just blown and I'm leaving it on the footpath for the garbage collection. great picture but just realised I've repaired it twice over last 18 months for a price that I couldnve got a new W100 for ($950). As this model has been out for a year now and as Benq somteimes has a bad rep'n can anyone tell me how there's has gone? Have there been any problems? Are you happy now that you've had it for a year?

Many Thanks...

I'm still just as wrapped as the day I first switched mine on...Haven't had any problems with it and the lamp looks just as bright after nearly 850 hrs.

I recently added one of Mark's Aussiemorphic lenses to it, and now project a 9' wide image..and it still looks great..even for a 480p projector..

For the price, you can't beat it..

I'd be interested to hear how other W100 owners are fairing..
