Generally speaking around here no news is good news.

That's what I keep telling myself at the moment while I'm waiting to hear if I have a contract for a new house..

I have my W100 hooked up to FoxtelIQ and Topfield HD (7000) via component, and Sony HD DVD player via HDMI>DVI and I am perfectly happy with the results. I have had mine for about 6 months and no problem at all. I'm thrilled with the quality for the price.

I had an issue once with HDMI sync, but that was the Sony not the Benq.

That's great. Always good when things go well. The preacher must be right - "no news is good news" and there's only good things ever said about this.

On that basis, I went and got one from ebay for $1,000. BUT!!, man!, the $200 dvd player (refurbished with 6 mths warranty) I bought was DOA. Anyway, hoping to return it as a lemon. Are there laws on lemons? ( I presuming it's the dvd player and not the pj - don't want to be the 1st one with a -ve comment :) - must be the dvd player!

Interested though what video source some people might use or recommend. The sony HD DVD player sounds great but must be really expensive. WOnder what one might buy in the $150-200 range?

Had mine since March 2006 with aprox 1100hrs on the clock (It says equivilant hours 940hrs which is run in economy mode so times x 1.25 for actual). I think I was one of the first to take the plunge on this projector and haven't regretted it since. Best value PJ on the market as far as I'm concerned, especially now they are sub $1k. I run mine from PC through DVI and couldn't be happier with the picture quality for a 480p projector (perfect for Wii through component as well). However I would probably now buy a 720p (Mitsubishi) for a simlilar price that I paid 15 months ago, Its amaizing how technology advances in one year, (I'll probabably say that again next year about the 1080p ones when they are sub $2k). However compared to buying a standard LCD TV for $1k it doesn't even rate comparason, why would you bother.

I'm new to the projector business and am considering the w100 too. Benq also has the MP611 which has twice the ANSI (1300 for the W100 vs. 2400 for the MP). Doesn't this make the MP a much better buy? Or does this depend on the usage?

My requirements:

- laptop connection for my wife's business (showing scrapbook DVDs and demonstrations via laptop)

- Play station for the kids

- possible for replacing (some) TV watching

- max $1000

thanks,

Stier

I have had my W100 for almost 12 months now - very happy with it. I upgraded from an InFocus (model?) to the W100 - better colours, better contrast, great for the big screen sporting occassions. The front vents also cool out the projector easily, and its very quiet.

yeah, it's not bad is it? - especaily for the price - got mine off ebay for 1k about 4 mths ago. I thought i had a problem (for a while) and benq was gonna send someone out to pick it up - not bad after sales service. It was the DVD player though - the pj was fine. There is a little SDE that troubled me but i moved back a bit and am completely oblivious to it now - the distance i initially watched it from i had watched from for years with a CRT pj that was great but noisy as hell - I chose this pj (therefore) becuase of the low noise levels - 25db - on economy mode it's one of the quietest around. Nothing is worse than noise in the quiet scenes - one can never completely lose oneself in the movie if there's a damn fan blowing away :)

Anyway - my idea was: buy it for $1k now - keep for a few years and then upgrade when the blue ray dvd players and 1080p pjs are cheap. (in no hurry though cause i'm pretty happy)
