The fact that LG were willing to release a dual format player with HD DVD emblazoned across it, even though it does not implement all of the HD DVD functionality, and is not endorsed by the HD DVD group does not fill me with confidence ...

If they had waited for endorsement though it may not ever see the light of day, the fighting between the two sides would get in the way of it happening, I don't own any LG products so can't attest to their reliability or lack thereof but I'm sure it is a step in the right direction regardless.

I don't understand why people have gotten so emotional over this 'war'. From a business perspective it was evident that stupidity & greed were the drivers for the dual formats in the first place!

As an adopter of DVD-Audio + SACD I watched that damn good product of hi-rez audio become an audiophile-only product relegated to a small cardboard box out the back of most retailers to die a slow death, surely the big boys would'nt be foolish enough to kill another great product being HD movies?

On paper Blu Ray has it - more support from the studios as well as that from Dell, HP & Apple while also slightly higher specs at launch. I think most ppl could not care less which format wins as long as they can get their beloved movies in HiDef, so let the 'war' be over with!

Well I had a 44" LG RPTV, it actually wasn't too bad.

What I was getting at was that I have heard horror stories of reliability and even worse stories of getting things fixed when it comes to LG products.

Sorry if I've offended you, the post was partly in jest, and partly not.

I would love to see a dual format player released by one of the 'quality' manufacturers.

Andrew.

so you've owned a tv and said it wasn't to bad but still sh1tcan the brand. sound fair to me :D

as for horror stories with brands i have read some stories of disgusting service and reliability from brands such as panasonic, pioneer and benq (as well as LG) so i'm not really sure why you single out one certain brand. maybe you do it because its fashionable.

i dont think LG is better or worse than some other brands. i own two LG products and am proud enough of them to list them in my signature

LG should be congratulated for releasing a player that plays both hd formats not ridiculed. as i mention previously maybe its fashionable to bag them because they are korean and relatively new thats why you do it be. there was once a time when the japanese were bagged for making motor cars. now they make better cars than anyone

post a little more responsibly in future.

Apple and HP are format neutral. As for a better spec at launch, we all know what a joke BR launch was in the States, so this is hardly an issue. However I do agree with a lot of your post.

OK dude, take a chill pill.

Seriously.

Do you work for LG or something ?

I mean I made a semi-serious remark, and all of a sudden I'm posting irresponsibly ?

I am sure there are not many on this forum who would state LG as their number one choice for providing HT gear ...

edit: wow, can't believe I've wasted my 1000th post on this ...

I think if truth be told we are all zealots at least. I have my preferences, but believe it or not I am not anti-BR, merely anti-Sony. Its just unfortunate the two are symbiotically linked!

But the alternative (Microsoft) is surely not much better, in fact more evil? At least Sony is not a monopoly.

At least Sony is not a monopoly.

They will be if they get their way ...

I think Microsoft has picked up a lot of street cred since the release of the 360.

I know I went from 'not liking' them to loving them.

Its nice to see them actually listening to their customers and giving us exactly (almost) what we are after.

Sony on the other hand seem to want to make our choices for us and ram it down our throats (hmmm, sounds like a couple of forum members ...)

The other thing is that even though microsoft is a supporter, they really aren't the driving force behind HD DVD to the level that Sony is for BD.

DRM? Windows Genuine Advantage? Activation? Vista? Protected paths for content?

Yay!

you have posted irresponsibly because you originally said

My 2 maya DVD players have worked far better than the LG appliances I have owned (and they were a hell of a lot cheaper too).

Andrew.

i just wanna know what 2 appliances or devices from maya and LG of comparable price and function you've owned for you to come to your conclusions?

you cant just go around speaking unfounded rubbish

no i dont work for LG.

i never said anyone would rate LG as their NO.1 choice in HT

you've wasted a lot more than one out of your 1000

OK, you've obviously got a problem with me.

I'm not sure why you've decided to become Mr pedantic with me, but I've got a simple solution ...

You are now on my ignore list.

I suggest you add me to mine, and then we can both go live our own happy lives.

i got no problem with you other than you being somebody who is quick to jump down the throats of others for posting non-factual rubbish yet post non-factual rubbish yourself.

ignoring is soft

Gotta love it. After Bill Hunt's rant about low prices for hardware being bad and a reason HD DVD will fail, the BD fan club over at AVS is going nuts over the possibility of a $299 Sony BD player saying how it will bury HD DVD.

Seriously, those guys can twist anything either way to prove their point. Takes a little away from their credibility.

I'll hunt down the thread tomorrow, but there was perfect example of this today.

So Universal announce their releases for the rest of the year, and the BD fanbois instantly jump in saying 'they are only announcing this huge list so that the HD DVD supporters don't get upset when they go format neutral in a couple of months'.

WTF ?

These are the same guys that were arguing a month ago that 'Universal haven't announced any titles yet and this is a sure indicator that they are waiting until they have announced that they are going dual format (or BD exclusive'.

I really don't know what planet these guys are on.

That list only goes to Sept to. Oct, Nov, Dec is where all those "big" titles everyone wants are.

I think people forget these are only new formats and to go back and do the really popular films of yesteryear properly will take time.
