brodricj Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 You're not alone there - I've never met anyone who could tell the difference. You couldn't have shopped at Harvey Norman then! My friendly HN sales consultant assures me Monster is better
brodricj Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I bought a 10m HDMI cable from MSY for $35, and have connected an LG DVD player to an Epson projector with the cable. Seemed to work ok on initial set up (1st hour or so), however after a while sparks in the picture began to appear, and the picture drops in and out. It's the cable for sure, this is a known problem with some cheap cables longer than 10m. If you buy a cable that is 'HDMI certified' at 5 Gbps then it should be fine.
lacehim Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I personally bought a DSE one. It performs okay at 576P from my DVD player but it won't transmit a computer signal to the projector or go up an resolutions higher than 576P. I ended up buying a htcustomcables Razor 12m and it has performed much better. Yes it was double the price, but in my opinion I would have been better purchasing this in the first place. The DSE cable is in next weeks garage sale pile!

SteveV Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Any opinions of the Lindy premium range of HDMI cables? Looked into them and a whole lot others but settled on the Kordz Krystal: 12 m for $217. Service and delivery was excellent, all hooked up now and I can say it performs flawlessly with my Panasonic projector. Steve.
Wilco1503560275 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Can anyone tell me where I can buy 'Kords' in Sydney... hard to find for some reason... they should sell it in some specialist stores, so go and check them out. if not, and you have no probs using paypal, www.htcustomcables.com is the BEST alternative to stores.
rezok Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 You're not alone there - I've never met anyone who could tell the difference. Thats interesting because I have an LG box with HDMI and component. Sometimes the DVD player is using the 1 hdmi output I have and when I cant be arsed putting it back in, the component cable looks DECIDEDLY WORSE than the other.. Sometimes I plug them both in and switch to show people the difference and the hdmi cable is far far more richer and vivid than the component.
quijibo Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 You guys have mentioned sparkles a few times. I notice when I watch 1080i content that the picture is a bit sparkly. Its not real bad but it is noticeable on close ups of peoples faces. Is this common? It does not happen with SD content and I think it happens less when I choose to output 720p and not really at all at 576p output from the STB.
Mousie Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Hi folks After reading all the differing views, went out to give the DSE 10m $99 dollar cable a test run (cause you can return it without breaking up the plastic box within 14 days - yep the sales people know me for my change of mind warranty) and if I had the sparkle issue or anything else then I will try a Concord from Jaycar (7 day return policy). Well the DSE 10m is certainly heavy duty and hopefully its not all heavy duty plastic either and looks to be up to 10mil or greater in size. Connections are the usual HDMI inserted into a TW600 PJ and Sony HD500 tuner and unfortunately for hdmi type connection with a huge cable weight, there remains a fair amount of movement = stress and strain so 'guy wires' for the roof mount will be in the order to keep the cable spot on the dot. Seriously, will need to shape it and link to all the others so it remains firm. The Concord looks a little thinner by comparison but nicer connectors. Bother boast gold 24k and OFC Copper for the internals. I noted both Jaycar and DSE are not certified HDMI as was looking for this trademark on advice here. Anyway, it works perfect with this source/target combination on 1080,720 and 576 and I agree that certain combinations of source receiver combinations may experience difficulty. As for picture quality, well I made all my own components, s-video and the emergency composite from PSR audio supplies over a 7m distance and was very surprised to see the picture quality the same save some minor loss in colour which was to be expected with analogue. Used the handbrake as the test device and she can see the colour loss once a few changes were made but as for detail, its on par. Anyway, after a heavy weekend coming up, if I don't see one speckle then in the wall it goes! I used to get rubbished a lot for my own cable making ability, you know, the look people give as if you have a dog turd on the bonet of your vehicle, but I feel vindicated by the HDMI test so show there is bugger all in it if you do the homework on these forums and don't take shortcuts. Hope this may help out to return the favours from what I have learned here. Mousie

It does not happen with SD content and I think it happens less when I choose to output 720p and not really at all at 576p output from the STB. This is the most common problem with poorly made HDMI cables, they will work fine at 576p but as soon as you try to use them for 720 or 1080 then they start to show their problems and it is usually characterised by sparkles or drop outs.
esseeayen Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 any further news on the MSY cables?? i need to buy a 10m cable for as cheap as i can to carry a 720p signal, considering buying one from monoprice.com in the USA
vadimz1503559506 Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 any further news on the MSY cables?? i need to buy a 10m cable for as cheap as i can to carry a 720p signal, considering buying one from monoprice.com in the USA I bought a 3m HDMI-DVI cable from MSY for $15. Pluged it in perfect... 5 min later picture goes all pink. Wiggled the cable all good again... 5 min later pink again. A loose connection somewher einside the cable I guess. I exchanged the cable the next day with no problems from MSY. New cable works perfectly with 1080i HDMI from my HD STB into DVI on my 1920x1080i LCD. The cables are so cheap! Why not just try it...
mtchye Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 On a similar matter, has anyone found a decent source for HDMI wall plates for running the cables through the wall and to a roof mounted projector?
rezok Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 ..and another question. Will a dvi-hdmi adapter work as a "hdmi" cable minus the audio signal or will it splutter when run through a hdmi switchbox with things like ps3 and dvd players?

Hydrology Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Wow that is expensive.I dont know where you can buy for less Ben $229 is the retail, so SteveV certainly couldve got a better deal, but based on the build quality, these Kordz offer better value for money IMO compared to the likes of Monster etc etc.
voicecoils Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I've been using both of the 10m HDMI cables I picked up at MSY for a bit now that I have HDMI->DVI adapter on one end. Here are my observations: They seem to pass 720p/1080i at either 50Hz/60Hz without problems to my 720p projector. I have almost exclusively used 720p as my sources are upscaled DVDs and downscaled HD-DVD so I haven't gone beyond simply testing that 1080i works. I also tried 1080p at 24/48/50/60Hz and the basic result was FAILURE. I had a few moments where when the cabled was straightened out and jiggled a bit the image would appear but it would quickly return to a scrambled mess. The Sanyo Z5 menu info did showed that it was accepting a 1080p digital input however. At 720p I could not see any difference between the 1.5m HDMI-DVI cable I have to the 10m HDMI-HDMI cable + HDMI-DVI adapter. I'd say if you have a 720p projector $35 is pretty hard to pass up. If you've forked out for a 1080p projector then spend the $100-300 required to get a cable from a Certified HDMI Adopter that guarantees their specific cable and cable length will pass 1080p.
SkadollaX Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Picked up the 5m HDMI lead from MSY and I am running it to my Epson TW700 and 1080p LCD. Can't spot the difference when compared with my 1m HDMI lead $79.00. For $25.00 it sure is good value !
o{O}o Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Beware the current RITMO HDMI to HDMI 10.0 meter cable purchased from MSY stores cannot work above 1080i signal. It is perfect for 1080i signal though. However when sending a FULL HD 1080p signal through it, it produces pink-purple noise over whole of the screen. RITMO 10 m HDMI pink-purple noise 1080p What would be the reason for it - too much bandwidth / too much information, or the signal weakens over long distance ? Would Jaycar Electronics store "HDMI In-Line Repeater/Extender" fix this problem by boosting signal ? Jaycar Catalogue - HDMI in-line extender Anyone tried it on likewise weak long-length HDMI cables ? I am using Toshiba HD-EX1 HD-DVD player andSamsung full HD plasma.

Personally I would return it to MSY and buy one of the HDMIOZ cables from Foxy, it's what I'm using and I have no probs at all with 1080p.
