go the golf gti with the dsg (direct shift gearbox) big marcelo you won't regret, great combination of power, handling, comfort, fuel economy etc and still some practicality with the hatch and best combination of manual control with fast gearchanges... just ask typhoon...

And if that doesn't sell you... it comes with a bottle opener in the centre console !!!

A seriously fun car !! That's all i need to say.

Hey all,

It got clayed yesterday. It looks stunning  I will post pics asap I promise. He did 3 coats, and the leather for $250. Very cheap if you ask me. The neighbour saw ours and wants his wife's new Forrester done too. If anyone lives in Sydney and wants his details, just PM me.

I love black cars, had a black Z3 many years ago, but I personally don't think it suits the GTI. It's a small car and in black it looks even smaller. Hubby loves black GTI's though.

Now, black Audi's and BMW's - YES! YES!! YES!!! (I'll have what they're having).

I think my next car will be the new M3 in black. Don't know how I'll stick the kids (future) in the back, but I can always get them to run behind the car. It's character building yeah?

I loooooooooooooooooooooove the GTI. I think it's my favourite car yet - and I used to have a 4WS Prelude (one of my first cars and handled brilliantly), and a Beemer. Love the power. Not as prestigious as some cars, and not as pretty as others, but it goes so well.

Only gripe, the brakes are really poor. They are the worst brakes I've ever had on a car. I'd hate to be in a close shave.

Seroius ?? Not that i've pushed my dads hard on a track or anything(Yet), but general street driving i find them to be great. A little too touchy for slow driving if anything.

pretty much all my cars since 96 have been black ..... but with the water conservation, keeping black clean has been a hassle ......

I'm seriously going to look into the GTI ... its good value for money.... and must be a hell of a lot cheaper to run then a territory turbo ghia... which is the size I would like to have.... but think of the environment (and the fuel bills.....)...

bottle opener? GPS? sunroof? good stereo? paddle gear shits? sounds like a winner to me ...... just hope the front wheel drive is ok coming from AWD for the past 10 years.... jeep, audi, subaru ...

M3 convertible, black .... nice .... gota spare $150k? sometimes is the only reason I think of going to live in the USA ... convertible M3 for about $80k aus .... that's really good value for money .....

when I was there last year, a friend of mine picked up a 4 year old merc, E55AMG, black, black ash interior, fully optioned, 18" rims, as new condition ..... US$28k .... seriously .... that cheap ....

Change of heart. Bugger the kids, I like the look of this...

Very pretty, but I still prefer a 2 door coupe. And a hardtop too. IMHO hardtops look sportier than the equivelant soft top version.

So there you go Big Marcelo, we disagree again

but the new softtop .... is a hardtop!!! :D

I like the looks of the BMW M7 though .........

Audi..ppfft......you have to put $2 in the slot to get them to move for you and even then the wheels squeak

......and they never have the cheese you want :P

So was the Golf an early birthday present then?

Theres a birthday party waiting to happen here in this thread

Have a good one Mrs Phoon

My missus has been making rumblings about getting rid of our two cars and buying a single nice one, now that's she got a job that is public-transportable. I reckon a GTI would be right up there on the list, although probably a demo or low km one so that we don't eat the depreciation. ...Then I made the mistake of going online to look at some specs, and found the R32 :D:P

don't bother with a demo one, her ein Melbourne hey are selling them the same price as a brand new one, mainly because of the waiting times.

Hmm the r32 is damn nice

True, but seen a couple of write ups (haven't driven either personally) that the GTI is more fun than the R32 as it's lighter and more nimble without the 4wd awd

Not faster mind if that's what you're after.....

It's academic anyhow because the R32 is out of the price range, but I might still try and squeek a test drive in one if I can.

I'd have thought that the awd would typically give you more 'paws down' grip rather than the fwd 'wa-heyyy'

yea, they should have thrown a 2.5ltr turbo in the R32

with the AWD and power loss through the drive train it realy did need something better then the 6 they threw in it

mind you a turbo kit for the 6 would go nice

hehe, now you're talking. Or maybe two? one for each bank.......

The way VAG are going, who knows, there seem to be some very nice Audis popping up at the moment.....

this thread is worthless without pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now now, play nice

Well, couldn't resist. I have driven a GTI, and been a passenger in a R32 (hubby was test driving).

From my end, I couldn't feel any difference, and the car felt claustrophobic. As soon as I sat in the GTI I was in love, but that didn't happen in the R32 - and I expected it to.

From hubby's perspective, he could hardly notice the extra power, but he said the handling was much, much better.

In looks, I prefer the GTI grill, the R32 rims, and the R32 body.

Apparently in the States, some nuts are buying R32's and getting the grills taken out and GTI grills put in. Too much money. I mean seriously, if you're going to buy a car and spend massive amounts on mods, wouldn't you rather get a better car?

Now take the GTI. Rather then spending $40K to modify it (eg lower, chip, new exhaust, bigger rims, fatter tyres, stiffer suspension blah blah blah), wouldn't I prefer to buy a BMW 335?

But then I would look like a boring adult rather than a kid with a cool car I suppose (surreal analogy, I know I'm too old to be a kid before some smartie tries to point that out to me).

Pics coming, I've been busy. I made a profit trading CFD's!!! I'm so excited. $8.5K in one month. Not real money though, still practicing on paper. Too scared to go live. Markets nuts at the moment.

OK, will stop typing now. I'm having a bad case of verbal diorrhea. Where's Mello when you need him?

Ciao x

I would rather mod the car

take a friend of mine

has a my00 wrx spend some serious $$$ on mods so say all up $40k $20k for car second hand $20-$30k on mods, so worst case scenario $50k

making over 300kW at all 4 paws and thats without squirting in the NOS :D

Look out exotics :P

Saying that though, if i had over $100k to spend on a car different story

Oh by the way, WERE'S THE PICS?????
