Platinum1503560545 Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Regardless of what type of cable you install make sure you test them before you install them. Once you've spent hour after hour setting everything up you don't then want to find out that the component cable you bought has some horrible wavey lines and interfence ruining everything.Take it from someone who found out the hard way. What are you talking about?
mtchye Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Thanks guys... I'm just a little concerned that the conduit currently installed will be hard to pull more than one cable through it. Just to clarify, and I might have this horribly wrong, composite is the normal rca yellow cable with a combined signal, and component is 3 RCA's splitting the RGB's? My laptop has a normal monitor/vga out, and no DVI.
mtchye Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Oh, the lappy also has an s-video tvout but from what I've been told, s-video is crap?
JoshH Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Oh, the lappy also has an s-video tvout but from what I've been told, s-video is crap? Its better than composite.. but its not as good as component or HDMI / DVI. S-Video splits the YC signal onto two seperate cables - composite carries it all on the one.
lacehim Posted April 1, 2007 Author Posted April 1, 2007 Seeing as I'm still in the building stage I decided to run all four cables. Component, Composite (Can be a back up if a composite cables plays up), HDMI and S-VHS all finished up in a nice all in one face plate. I personally am using some aging HT components and not all my devices use HDMI. My PS2 only uses component, as does my PVR, and my other DVD player and computer use the HDMI. You just never know if i will need SVHS but for the $40 it's going to cost to run I will just throw it in anyway. FYI guys the starserve system isn't that expensive, probably no more than a top range DVD player, about $1000. I will let you know how I get on once I move in.
