I don't believe Strathfield are offering those models, so no competition to drive down prices

Maybe there is not much stock of these models around, I think Retravision had the bulk of the 7000's (not the PVR) at $199 which is dirt cheap already, for a box that was around $500 I couldn't see it getting much cheaper than that anyway.

I seem to recal a product that came out not long ago (might have been the Toshi HD DVD player?) which had a redemption voucher inside for the Toppy 7000 STB at $199......

Could have been a response to this?

No idea, haven't heard of that offer before, if there is an offer like that they would need to make sure stock is available for those customers

out of interest................how many hours of recording would fit onto the 80gb drive

Around 28 hours, can vary a little depending on the bit rate of the channel, even 80gb will give plenty of recording if you are the watch and delete type of user

Then I can definately recommend to you the DSE twin tuner 160Gb PVR .... $199 at Tandy, works a treat. I was going to pay $299 for the identical unit at DSE until somebody here alerted me to the Tandy alternative.

But forget the price, this is the closest to perfection PVR I've used.

Personally 80Gb is a bit tight if you watch a fair bit of TV. A PVR tends to up the amount of stuff you record (even if you later decide to just delete it). Unless you have very simple requirements I always recommend grabbing a 5000 over the 4400 - the USB, EPG, TAP, drive size improvements may all come in handy once you get settled.

That said the Tandy/DSE PVR is getting some good reviews (aside from a few users reporting intermittent unit freezes) - for $200 its sounds like a great buy.

The 5000 is certainly worth the extra if the budget allows, guess it depends on the minister of finance :)

The Tandy one sounds good for a bargain model but it does seem as though they are clearing that model so may be hard to pick one up, they only show 13 pieces available online for purchase, not sure how much they might have in stock in stores, look for one soon I guess if that's the case

The 7000pvr included a voucher for a 7000STD or a TFP20 PMP.

Topfield 5000 Masterpiece or Mediastar DT-9022 HDMI ?

Tough choice. $100 difference - $499 and $599 respectively.

The Mediastar can be bargained down in price.

Upscaling or TAPS.

Hi Guys,

I'm moving to Singapore soon - so I'm starting to sell some of my gear which won't work over there .... first to go is my Toppy Masterpiece 5000PVRt black with a 300Gb HDD (modified by reseller), PBK, ICE, etc... about 100hrs worth of recording on the disk - with manual, remote (hardly used since I use my pronto remote),

I'm also throwing in a high end cable - scart to component KORDZ Quantum C (link to the equivalent cable @ HTCustomCables) 3m - worth around $140 by itself .

All up I'm asking for $350 - pickup is inner west Sydney or postage & Insurance for $20 around Australia. Prefer Paypal payment or payment on pick up.

If no takers here, I'll put it on ebay on the weekend.

Please PM me with offers and questions.

Cheers,

Marcelo

What screen do you have, have you seen any reports on the Mediastar using HDMI?

At the moment I have an old 68cm CRT, but maybe upgrading next year to a 42 to 50 cm

flat panel. Haven't seen the actual setup but reports from this forum seem favourable.

This may be starting to bite, I saw the 5000 for $491 as a clearance item at DSE today! (also had the 5000MP for $599)

peter....thanks for your insight...............you just never know how much you'll recod do you............might be handy for me come cricket season

the stb doesn't have to be fancy..........i'm using just a cheap stb plugged into an av sender to send the fta signal to the lcd in the sunroom/kitchen.......sounds a bit dodgy but it was far easier than getting a tv point put in due to the location...........works a treat except when mr microwave is going
