I going to go and put one on layby tonight (if i can find one in stock). Does anyone think that i'll be able to haggle down to around $500 then put on layby? I understand that $599 is still a bargain for an XE1, but i've heard around here that they can be had for $500.

Mate, NATO = no action, talk only won't help, why regret it when there is no stock when you can get one and be home for supper to enjoy the new player?

I am stuck at my HT room thanks to my new XE1... :)

thanks for all the responses to my question - however - all the stores are on the other side of Sydney :) !! oh well - I'll just have to wait the 2-3 weeks delay at Toshiba to get more stock in.

I've ben watching all the new XE1 owners with envy. It looks like most people on this thread have been buying in Sydney. Does anyone know where I could get one in Melbourne or Geelong for around the $530 - $550 mark. I have a A30 which I'll flog off on eBay. Not being able to play PAL discs is a bit of a pain.

Cheers,

Peter

you could be there and back in 2 hours and watching it tonight :P

more like 3 hours from the shire :)

and $30 down in petrol money and tolls !!!!! (and if you've ever driven around Sydney in PEAK HOUR you'd be ready for the same hospital Britney has been in !!)

anyway - have it 'on order' with AC Caringbah - 5min drive.

Got mine at JB Fountain Gate $540

Thanks, that is heaps better for me instead of driving all the way to melbourne. only an hour away. Although if I have the time I will still need to go to carlton to visit CAV for a decent test of some ht gear unless there are anymore suggestions for decent place this side of the city?

Not exactly out your way but maybe both easier than Carlton.

Put an XE1 on layby at JB Highpoint. Haggled down to $540. Could have haggled harder if i said i was paying cash right there and then, but oh well! I just didn't want to miss out altogether!!!

Harvey Norman at Castle Hill Homemaker Center has got 5 of each model on the floor as of last night.

They now have 2 left of the XE1. I just bought one.

Was in Harvey Norman at Indooroopilly today (buying new microwave) - they had at least 6 boxed XE1s and plenty of EP10 and E1.

According to one - they ordered 50 XE1's and confirmed that there would be no more after this last shipment.

Sean and team are to be commended. Pretty much all large displays have a HD-DVD player feeding them. Signs such as "Have a HD TV, you need HD DVD". Hardly a BD player in sight.

Yehp 2 left there, and wouldn't budge on 590 when i went in today with cash in pocket, even when i mentioned other places selling for 550 and less... So i went to Clive Peters at Bella Vista, none left, and only 1 in stock reported at another store. Headed off to Belrose and snagged the last one there for 530. The salesman (very helpful guy actually) said they would be getting 10 more in the next week or so and that those 10 would be their last batch to be delivered.

HD-DVD FTW ! Now to hook it up and put it to good use !!!!

Went to JB on the way home to see if i could get a couple more movies to get me started, but at 40 bucks a pop for good ones, i figured i'll just ebay/amazon them.

Congrats on the purchase! :)

The current Amazon 50% off sale has 147 titles the majority as cheap as US$14.99, the more you order the more cost effective shipping becomes* so a great way to start your collection!

*(US$8 the first title then US$3 each thereafter if you choose standard, don't bother with expedited)

High-Def Digest is a great place to review titles too......

Was that Daniel?

Funny when I talked to him two weeks ago he offered them for $520. He said he usually checked out DTV too and knew what prices some people were getting them for.

I rang JB and they matched the price so I just went there as it is closer than Belrose.

cheers

I am now a happy owner of an xe1, thanks to yorac I picked one up at jb fountain gate for $539 - didnt even have to haggle just asked him what he could do it for. could have got him lower but the back and forth crap just wasnt gunna be worth an extra $10 maybe $20 bucks. Was just too damn busy in there.

Had a laugh at retravision a couple of doors down though! had a salesman go on a big speil about hd-dvd being dead, by the time I was finished telling him about the upscaling abilities of this player for sd dvd's he was on the bandwagon. In the end he was interested to find out more about the player and wether he could source himself one through the store. He admitted that there are some hd-dvd titles he wants too.

now to set it up and get the firmware stuff done.

Clive Peeters Ringwood had 5 XE-1s at 17:30 Friday

and a bunch of EP10s and E1s too.

Thanks for that. I'm going to pick one on Tuesday.

Cheers.

Sorry to hear that. The salesman I dealt with sold it to me for $550. Thanks for the initial heads up regarding stock levels. Glad to hear you were able to get it cheaper.

Ringwood has plenty more than that anyway...there is another pile of units up next to the enclosed viewing room.

Not sure who the guy was i spoke to, i didn't spend long trying to negotiate and beat them down on price. For a salesman, if i had a customer walking away when i quoted a price, i'd be asking them what price we'd need to get to for a deal, if they did that, i would of been straight up with my offer at around $530, but i walked out with cash in my pocket. Happy with the service from Belrose in the end.

Which JB did you get yours from?
