Any updates on recent prices obtained on the 606's recently? Looks like a price around $1000 is not too bad......

Harvey Norman quoted $999

JB Hifi quoted $980

Hope that helps :)

Thanks, seems like quite good prices to me.

Wot wuld be the better buy a 705 at $1000 or a 606 at $950, considering a 705 is an obsolete model now?

Cheers

The best I could do was $988 with a 5 year wty at JB's Osborne Park yesterday. This was the last one at this store. Amber Technologies has told me the 706 is still about 6 weeks away.

I expect the prices of the 606 to still drop lower, assuming stocks remain available elsewhere.

Mate brought one at HN osborne park for $1100 tonight.

$1000 for black SR606 and $100 for extra 4 Years warranty. (7 years total)

Also gets to send away for a free Onkyo Ipod dock.

My mate was about to buy some cables so he can hook up his PC to AMP. DVI to HDMI.

He is worried it won't work after reading the manual

Notes:

• The HDMI video stream is compatible with DVI (Digital Visual Interface), so TVs and displays with a DVI input can

be connected by using an HDMI-to-DVI adapter cable. (Note that DVI connections only carry video, so you’ll need

to make a separate connection for audio.) However, reliable operation with such an adapter is not guaranteed. In

addition, video signals from a PC are not supported.

Has anyone tried connecting a computer from their DVI to the HDMI of the amp?

Any Problems?

Those are some pretty good prices. I might do something like that until the Aussie dollar recovers (if it ever does)... $700 is about how much what I was going to buy from Singapore has gone up... :(

I've had my Onkyo 2 months now and just tonight I heard the hiss issue.

I just bought the latest Kings of Leon CD, and popped it into the CD player...ramped up the Onkyo on Stereo to 55 and I can hear the hiss.

It's only slight, but it is there in the silent parts.

Damn it.....gonna ring the service centre tomorrow. Will a firmware update fix it? Also will a firmware update fix the problem of DTS-HD turning the night mode on and also sort out the popping (which I havent had occur)?

If it didn't do it before, it's highly unlikely a firmware upgrade is going to be some magical fix.

How is the CD player connected to the Onkyo? SPDIF - Optical or Coax? Just analogue? If analogue, perhaps the RCAs aren't plugged in properly and the ground (outer part) has become disconnected?

Are you sure the hiss isn't on the CD? Wouldn't be the first time for a CD to show flaws in the original recording, particularly if the original recording wasn't the greatest.

HDMI to the Onkyo from my Sony RDR-HX870 using bitstream mode

It may be the CD as when I listen to other DVD's / CD's...even Blu Ray from my Sammy 1500, etc I havent heard it before.

Hmmm...

Try the CD in another player - perhaps even the car (without the engine running). If the hiss is on the CD you'll probably hear it on all but the crappiest of systems.

Is it "Because Of The Times"? I just had a listen to some MP3s I had of it. I don't think it's hiss - it sounds like hiss, but I think it's just part of the recording.

Yep..."Because of the Times"

I cant hear it in the car at all (Bose system) and it gets played loud in there.

I've never heard it at normal volumes in the house, but when i cranked it up yesterday, there was definately a hiss....it was on all tracks

I will try it out of the Sammy 1500 and see what happens

EDIT -

Tested it with the CD in the Sammy, and also ripped the CD to the Sony to see if the hiss was still there,.....answer is yep!

I then tried a Tea Party CD in the same method....same result.

However, its only the tweeter that is hissing, and its only audible at high volumes.

Any ideas?

mrdenn1s,

Very hard to say without listening to it personally but I'm still leaning towards original recording issues. Do *any* other sources on the Onkyo exhibit the same hiss?

If you pause the CD does the hiss immediately stop?

You say "tweeter" (singular). Is it only one channel? If so, that would rule out the source recording. If it's only one channel, perhaps a tweeter with a problem?

have a look at the hk255/355 as an option. I got one the other day and I'm very impressed, especially for the price.
