whippee Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 (edited) Anyone got this for $900 or less lately? went into hn yesterday and enquired about this amp and he said the bestprice he could do was 1099 down from 1299. i did some research last night and found that someone had posted a site that was selling them for 701.00. I called them back today and the owner told me to bring in the printed quote from the website and they would match it. That didnt sound too bad to me. Im going in tomorrow after work and see what they say. Thought i would just share this info. i think the website was youprice.com.au Edited February 1, 2009 by whippee

Im going in tomorrow after work and see what they say.Thought i would just share this info. i think the website was youprice.com.au Harvey Norman stores are all over the place with prices, before 01 Jan. you could get the Onkyo 606 for $1000 with 12Mths interest free, and the Denon 789 for $1100. After 01. Jan they raised the price in Sydney to $1299 with NO discount. In Sydney,HN Caringbah are higher priced than most HN stores due to sales volume, so try elsewhere. In melbourne, many more bargains can be found. JB hi fi can still do a Onkyo 606 for $1000 interest free and it was posted that Eastwood hi fi will sell the 606 for $950. Good luck. Be quick because I don't think they will hold these prices much longer, and avoid HN stores if possible ,just out of principle If you get the price match, please post it. Cheers. Thornton

bowds Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 After having this unit for just under 2 months, i'm finding i'd like a bit more grunt/power. It seems to struggle a bit with a bi-amped fronts in a 5.1 setup during movies. What are my options here? I was told to possibly a upgrade to a Marantz 6003, or would i be better off getting a power amp? I'm running; Mission E34 (Fronts) Mission E3c (Centre) Mission E3ds (Rears) Mission E3asR (Sub)

So you are rather stuck with the amps inside or upgrade the AVR.

dantan Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 That is correct; the Onkyo TX-SR606 does not have pre-outs, so a Power Amplifier will not be able to be hooked-up to the '606. I purchased a '606 for my sister and her husband for their new house, and this is a grunty unit - especially at this sort-of money. Dan.
dantan Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Anyone got this for $900 or less lately? I purchased one for my sister and her husband about October last year and paid $950.00. This was after haggling with a couple of places. It was extremely difficult getting the price down below $1,000.00.

It has got pre-outs, so that in the future, should you wish to upgrade, you could purchase a Power Amplifier. The '863's street price is around the $1,300.00 mark, I believe. Dan.

Guest [schmick] Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Hi Guys, Can anybody tell me how this amp compares to say the new Yamaha RX-V565?
couchpotato76 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Yes you can pass through the HDMI. In fact, the Onkyo will not touch the HDMI signal inputs no matter what you do. It only impacts Analogue signals (eg componant). So if your DVD / BR player inputs signal at 720p, then this is what your TV will get, even if you tell the Onkyo to output at 1080i. So if i have a dvdr connetedc via hdmi, the 606 wont do anyhing to the picture, and I can get my TV to do the upscaling to 1080p?
Guest leebekben Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me, i'm having a couple of problems. I currently have a PS2, Wii, DVD via HDMI, VHS, Foxtel IQ2 via HDMI hooked up. The Wii, DVD and Foxtel all work fantastic. So the problems i am having are, 1. When the PS2 is first turned on and the Onkyo turned to the "GAME" input i get sound without a problem but a "snowy" screen, if i change to, say for example the "CBL/SAT" input and then back again to "GAME" it will work, meaning i now have sound and a picture, any idea there? 2. When i'm watching a VHS, at periodic times (maybe every 5 minutes) the screen will go "snowy" for maybe 1 to 2 seconds then fix itself and return to back to the picture? 3. I have a turntable that i want to hook up, it doesn't have a built in pre-amp so i bought one, i tried for 2 hours on Friday night to get it to work to no avail, it has me stumped. If anyone can offer a solution to 1 or all i would be eternally gratefull, especially as i it took me a while to convince the Mrs as this is the best option to go, now she is saying that i should of just went with a HTIB. -Darren
Thornton Melon Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Whats the current going price for this amp? JB will do it for $999,Harvey in some stores will do it for $990 cash only. HN is getting harder to bargain with. This AVR is very good but only upscales to 1080i,the Denon 789 will upscale to 1080p. Cheers

peteski Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) Hello all, I'm new to this and thanks for all the great info so far. I recently picked up my 606 from JB doncaster , VIC for $900 as it's soon to be replaced with the 607 okyo 607 I have a problem with the audio coming from a topfield 7200HD set top box. I don't know if the problem is the set top box or the amp. I have it connected via HDMI into the amp. If the signal is broadcast in HD, then i should be able to get dolby digital through the amp, however this does not occur with the HDMI cable ( as tested via the digital input button on the front of the amp). All i get is 'normal' sound, output at PCM. However, if i connect an optical cable from the set top box to the amp, it does recognise a dolby input. I thought HDMI would transmit this signal and avoid needing an optical cable. Am i mistaken here? Needless to say, yes, i've tried multiple HDMI cables and all inputs are assigned appropriately on the amp setup. It's either a set top box problem or an amp problem, and i cant figure it out!!! Just to top it off, i went back to JB to talk to them about it and they tried to tell me that HDMI is unreliable for dolby audio signal, and it was just too bad. I had a rather large 'discussion' with them about this and left feeling rather insulted and p***d off as there was no interest in them actually helping to solve the problem. They couldn't have cared less. Any thoughts, ideas or comments anyone may have would be greatly appreciated. Edited June 19, 2009 by peteski
mquin1503560492 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I have had a similar problem (no DD) from my PVR to my Onkyo 805 .... an optical cable solved the problem.
benz1980i Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Hey guys, I have the sr606 and am not able to get a picture or sound. I have had the unit working fine since I bought it nearly 2 months ago. Lately I have had the occasional drop out which I have put down to cheap hdmi cables. I have experemented with the cables- running hdmi direct from the ps3 to the tv LA52A650A. DVR and Blu ray player work fine too, using all of my hdmi cables. Now when I plug everything into the reciever I get 'MODE NOT SUPPORTED'. The hdmi light on the reciever flashes for a moment then it reads 'No Signal' on the 606's display. Any help would be great. My wife is going to love this as convicing her to upgrade our audio was like running on hot coals

benz1980i Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Consider better HDMI cables with exchange or return funds policy. I took it back in to Harvey Norman today. They tested it on one of their dvd players and it didn't work- 'No Signal'. They wouldn't replace it because they have a 14 day return policy. Taking it in for repairs tomorrow...
refused_curtis Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Whats the current going price for this amp? I picked up a shelf model from JB Hifi for $800 with 2 years warranty!
relliksalta Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I picked up a shelf model from JB Hifi for $800 with 2 years warranty! Don't all Onkyos some with 3 years Warranty ?
benz1980i Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Don't all Onkyos some with 3 years Warranty ? Yes they do. Maybe he got an extended 2 years on top of the original 3. The new model is out now 607. When I went in yesterday they said they were selling the new model for the same price as the old one. I paid $960. The lady said the price on the box is $1600. I guess they cut you deals when you buy alot of things together. I bought a Krix speaker set.
refused_curtis Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Don't all Onkyos some with 3 years Warranty ? Correct! 2 years extended I should have said!
