Yamaha Rx 1900

i was thinking about getting the yamaha yds-11 ipod dock

if i use this, does this have a digital output, or does it use the dac in the ipod ?

with the dock it uses a line out, rather than the headphone out, so the quality is better than using headphone/rca cables to the amp ?

it sounds like the yamaha dock uses a line out from the ipod and the receivers pre amp stage

where the normal headphone output uses the ipod preamp

but both cases use the dac of the ipod

but i gain an easier to use onscreen menua using the yamaha dock

i'm not that convinced that i would hear enough of the difference to justify getting a dock like the wadia that does use external dac's

Purchased today for $1450.00 @ Harvey Norman - City West, also got the iPod dock.

Anyone know the latest firmware version and where it can be downloaded?

Now to search for new speakers...

Have Teac i-pod dock with phones, composite and s-video out - can I patch it in to the 1900. can you adapt the phones or lose too much detail? Maybe I need the YDS-11 or YBA-10. How do those compare? ..

I have an 80gb PS3, i have it set to output audio as LPCM and connected it to my yamaha 1900 via HDMI. My amp shows DPL IIX, this must be since my PS3 is doing the decoding. This means even if i am listening to a Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA lossless tracks

my amp will only show DPL 11X ?

I don't think the PS3 will output True Hd or DTM MA as it has to go through HDMI 1.3 to your amp. I have a similar issue with my XB360 and HDDVDs. Somebody will correct me if I am wrong though.

Yeah the new Slims will bitstream the HD codecs
