flukeyluke Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Hi Guys, Reasonably new to PS3 so if this is a noob question excuse me.. I want to be able to play XviD movies on my PS3 - how do I do it? Do I have to use a software program to covert the movie to Playstation format? Can I use my PC as a media centre and link it to the PS3? ( my PC and Playstation are in different rooms but share a wireless internet connection ) Thoughts?
Sean-87 Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 XviD plays on the PS3 without the need to convert. I have my PC set up with TVersity which streams the content over the network to my PS3. You can also set up WMP11 as a media server I believe.
Grapeape Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Some play, some don't, just depends on the codec they were converted with. But using a Media Server software like Tversity or Nero8 will transcode most things on the fly. Just remember, your PS3 will default play .mp4 too. So if you are looking to download movies etc, the .mp4 is a smaller size and will play perfectly on your PS3. WMV and most Xvid will also play. Just load them on the HDD or USB drive or stream them.

ronburgundy Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I tried WMP11 - PS3 didn't want to detect it. Apparently quite a few people have had the same probelm with it. TVersity works pretty well though.
