Looks very interesting, and like everything else about the Golf, it is understated and tasteful. It seems to give the info you are after without intruding into the cabin. Nice.

One thing you will enjoy your car . Cheers
Stirlo Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 You are right with one dealer, they didn't have an R, but the other one has quite few coming in shortly, and a number have the active suspension. I understand that the options of most car companies are expensive etc, but drop your price slightly, ensure it isn't worth the hassle of fitting an aftermarket device, and BAM, your 'option' sales sky rocket. Dead right too, it is a top car, which I am sure I will love if I go ahead with the purchase.

What I like about the veedub's they pull that 2 cars in one off really well .The can putt around in them then hit a putton shift it in sports mode and its almost a different car .It would of been good if VW offered the stearing weight change seperate but it only comes with the active damper control. Stirlo Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 How does the steering weight change? Lighter or heavier?
Guest Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Stirlo said: How does the steering weight change? Lighter or heavier? Hi Stirlo I would say heavier but I think that would be incorrect .What it does do is gives you better feel on the road ,you get a better since of where your tyres are .You can really feel the tyres digging in on those tight hi speed corners stearing not as vague .This is where a couple of journo's wished it was a seperate option. It pays to test drive something optioned as well and get an idea for yourself than a salesman point of veiw . Can you lease the car through work there can be very good savings ,but you need to do atleast 25K a year to make it worth while . Cheers

Stirlo Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Well after much running around and to and fro, I finally made the purchase today. A brand new Golf R in Rising Blue, DSG and bluetooth. I had been in discussion with another dealer about a white one with leather, sat nav, bluetooth, and black 19's, but they got rather rude and arrogant when it came time to talk price so walked out of there and bought the car elsewhere. Advantage to me as the car I bought was on the lot, I wanted the car in either blue or white, and it was in blue, and it didn't have all the other options like leather and satnav, that I didn't really want. Can't wait to pick it up and have wiped the smile off my face all day.

I was at Barloworld Thursday they had a Rising Blue on the lot ,looked good . CHeers
Stirlo Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Cheers mate, yeah the one at Barloworld is my new car! Delivrey will possibly be late this week, but more than likely early next week due to the public holidays on Monday/Tuesday. Sure beats the 6 month+ wait for an order, given there aren't really any features I want, that aren't cheaper and better aftermarket. The first things will be the headunit and the APR tune.
Stirlo Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Well, where to start. Picked up my new Rising Blue Golf R on the 30th of April and all I can say is what a fantastic little car! I haven't been able to get the grin off my face, driving the car is just so much fun. Everything about it is absolutely top rate, with no complaints about anything. I have already had the APR Stage 1 tune done, but the bug has now bitten and there will be an exhaust and fuel pump done in the near future. (Yes, I know what you said John The stage 1 tune gives the car some real go, but now I want that little bit extra on top. The interior of the car is another highlight, well finished and although the only option on my car is the bluetooth, it works brilliantly. I have a very cheap company phone, and the bluetooth has no issue connecting to it and accessing the phonebook. Very unusual for this phone. Anyway, here are some pics of the car:
Guest JohnA Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Very nice indeed. Love that colour also. Congrats again and hope it brings you many happy kms
DoggieHowser Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I am on a budget but being the petrolhead, I just couldn't quite get myself to settle down on a Cruze. Finally talked the missus into getting the GTI. My only concern is really how under-spec-ed the car is Down Under. Just about everything is optional and worse, requires a factory indent. No DCC, bi xenons with dynamic cornering lights and LED DRL, no reverse camera (I thought that was a really nifty thing to hide under the VW logo, no optical parking sensor display. Right now, I am just looking at a fabric interior, 5 door DSG. I would have liked blue but there's no blue on the GTI Any idea if it is possible to retrofit the bi xenon lights? I know I won't get the washer that's standard on factory fitted bixenon gear but I wouldn't mind ordering the original factory part and fitting it locally if it was possible.

Hi Doggie If your willing to wait 3 years I can sell you my optioned up car .The bixenon's are worth getting .Where I live street lighting isn't that good and I don't find myself switching to high beam like I do in our second car . Cheers
DoggieHowser Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Nah! I can't wait three years. Hoping to get one within a week of landing down under. I might like to take that blue R off StirLo if he's changed his mind haha (which seems like an SNA affliction seeing how fast people change gear). Have a soft spot for 4WD.
Stirlo Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Sorry Doggie but absolutely no chance of me changing my mind re the golf. It will be in my drive for a while yet. In case you haven't heard/seen, there are great deals on the Gti at the moment with no drive away costs involved. http://www.volkswagenaustralia.com.au/eofysale/
mondie Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Looks like there is a hotter version of the Golf coming, for those considering a purchase: http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-news/vws-hotter-golf-gti-20110511-1ei2g.html

In case you haven't heard/seen, there are great deals on the Gti at the moment with no drive away costs involved.http://www.volkswagenaustralia.com.au/eofysale/ Hehe. I am just kidding I originally planned to turn over a new leaf and get a really basic car like a Fiesta DSG for a daily drive and be done with it. In the midterm horizon, maybe a new Lotus Elise when that gets released when I am feeling naughty. But call me a snob, I just couldn't live with rear drum brakes. So I looked further up the food chain.. Focus was getting replaced in August and they won't have the 1.6T variant. Having driven an old 1.6NA Focus before, I can tell you that car just begs for a more powerful engine. Then I chanced upon the Polo GTI. Looked brilliant. But I would have to wait till England wins the World Cup apparently before I could see one in the drive way (allegedly). OK so I stretched the truth a little. Then the Golf GTI, but I can't seem to find one that has just the specs I want, and I really don't want to wait. What I really want: Bixenon with the new LED DRL and dynamic cornering lighting Adaptive Chassis Control Parking Distance Control (with front/rear sensors) And if I could get these in the car, who am I to say no? Dynaudio upgrade, but I have to say I am just being a bit greedy with this one Reverse Camera Honestly, would love the 4WD R as well. Might stave off any cravings I had for a better car. I am driving an R35 now and had a CT9A Evo 8MR before this so I guess I am partial to them. But at the price of the R, it's getting awfully close to the price of the new Lotus Elise (assuming they keep the old price) which has a siren call with my name on it. Come on, you know you want one too 300hp. Light as a feather (OK I'll admit it's porkier than the old one but it is lighter than the Golf R and you don't have to be a circus contortionist to get into the new one)
Stirlo Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Yes, the Polo Gti certainly seems very difficult to come by, and by the time you add the options you want, you are getting close to a R anyway, which has the lights and park sensors as standard. I actually think the difference in price from Golf Gti to R is very, very reasonable, there is a lot of hardware that goes in the R, for only a small price gain. Either way, I have to admit that that Elise looks absolutely magnificent, but can you wait the expected four years till release? England may have won that world cup by then...

I guess I am torn between getting a car now with the offers in place or wait to configure up my dream car. Thing is what do I do for a ride in the interim? And I am crap at buying second hand car to tide me over. With my luck, it would probably be a lemon. Is it OK to PM me with the price? I am not sure what forum rules are over here. I guess if I was looking for an R, it would pretty much be the same specs: Adaptive Chassis Control (you mentioned bixenon with LED and dynamic cornering and parking sensors are standard) On the nice to have side: the Dynaudio (which actually sounds not bad) and the reverse camera ps the missus raised an interesting point.. when it comes time to sell, do people actually look for these options that we spec in? I expect the Dynaudio would be worth zilch, unless it's the SNA crowd. and even then... Just not sure if the Xenon/camera/parking sensors are really worth anything except for my own personal requirements? Edited May 17, 2011 by DoggieHowser
DoggieHowser Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 wagner said: how long is the waiting list for a polo gti? I was told in February that it was February 2012. It's now May and I am now told June 2012. Seems like there's a worldwide shortage of this car. Nobody expected it to be this popular. But I still can't imagine one year for that car. I test drove the car the other day (in this country: 9 months waitlist) and it was surprisingly zippy. I was driving a 4 year old MkV GTI there and back so it was easy to make an AB comparison. This was with a BSR Stage 2 chip up and an ABT quad pipe rear muffler so it wasn't exactly stock. Yet, from each traffic light, the Polo GTI just felt much more eager to get off the lights. It felt lighter and zippier. The exhaust note too had a bit more growl to it and sounded like it was also raring to go. More so than the ABT one oddly enough. I also loved the new "click" tactile feedback on the DSG gearbox. The old Mk V 6 speeder had a more "game-like" flick up/down action. I was told the new MkVI DSG is similar to the Polo's feel. Is that correct?
