Don't think LC will affect the engine as much as the drive train though :) especially if it has been tuned. Try it and let us know how it goes :party

obi, i think the beauty of launch control is it allows the wheels to spin more freely as it partialy dissables traction control.

Most stress would be on the drive train. As for spinning the wheels, not hard to do even in stock form :)

Go on, give it a go with the APR reflash :party

How you enjoying the APR stage 1?

Posted

Just loving APR stage 1. It is annoying that we pay 3 times the price for it out here, but I really think the APR people will absolutely stand by their product so in the end I was happy to pay for that support. Now I have almost the same power as the Golf R in a lighter car:cool:

OK, I'll give launch control a go on the weekend. I'll get my advanced driver training guy to come with me, he'll be game to do more with it than I am.

great news regarding the APR. As for launch control, there realy is no need to do it mate. Doubt you will use it much in reality anyways, and with the APR tune you'll get off the line fast enough as it is.

ummm. I hate to point out the obvious...but isn't 50/60kph the speed limit in town? Outside of a track (which I reckon would be great fun) when do you get to use the extra acceleration?

Not being a kill joy but having owned WRX's etc in the past I found them nothing more than a danger to the rest of soceity - not too mention my license..

Just asking..

nothing in the law that says i can't get to 60 in 2 seconds is there?

i also had a modded WRX and had no issues sticking to speed limits on roads.

i think it comes down to the maturity of the driver, because any vehicle in a morons hand is a danger to society

well Next tuesday i have the guys from bluefin paying me a visit to see if my ecu has the new encrypted software. If not, will be doing the tune at the same time, then warning the dealer to NOT put the new software on my ecu or i will chop their jewels off !!!!!!!!

Can't wait now, but i know its the start of something bad :hiccup

well no...not yet...but it is usually wiser to take longer.....public roads aren't drag strips.

Things often happen on roads that one doesn't expect (people do unexpected things - especially little people). It is a lot easier to cope with those unexpected occurences if you have more time (and less speed).

I have absolutely no issue with car enthusiasts modifying and enjoying their cars in a safe and responsible enviroment. This does not include public roads.

Personally I look at people doing 0-60 in 2 -3 seconds and think - what a wanker.

Which I am sure you are not.

hehe, allot will say i am a wanker, buts thats another story all together.

I suppose people mod their cars for different reasons.

some mod purely for looks

others for performance, maybe for track use or drag strips, and yes some will race on the roads.

I think the point here is, doesn't matter if the car is modded or not, because as you say tricka, in a wankers hand even a stock falcon or commonwhore can be a lethal weapon.

Oh and lets not kid ourselves, its not just young P platers, i have had older folk in their AMG's wanting to drag me off at the lights when i had the WRX. Now you would think they would know better

Nope, I can understand why they did that. You were both playing **** games (richard games?). Anyone who performance tunes their car is doing that.

And I speak as someone who had ecutek mods as far as they would go on his wrx.

Mod to your heart's content, but never fool yourself by portraying things as other than as they are.

obiwan, do you know if APR flashed your ECU via serial port, or did they need to remove your ecu for a hard wired job?

I had the rep from bluefin visit me at home today to deliver and install the bluefin tune, unfortunately, i have the encrypted ECU so the only way it can be done is by removal of the ECU. Not something i want to do during warranty period

Posted

Hi John,

They did it while I watched. Just used the serial port. Afterwards they showed me the special tool they have to make it easier if the ecu was encrypted. I think the ecu still had to be removed though (if encryption present), but they said it wasn't a big job.

Shame its not so straight forward for you. We thought that might have been the case with your later build date.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Cheers mate.

Yes the ecu has to be removed, but apparently they don't need to solder anything to it.

I just need to see one done to see if it can be noticed. I have not looked myself but apparently it has silicone holding it in along with the security screws.

My greatest fear is warranty, and if VW can find a way to not pay out i am sure they will

Very nice, 56 :love So what's happened to the Maxima?

Hi Keith

The Maxima is our 2nd car now and on some occasions the wife lets me drive the Vdub:rolleyes::D .

Vw offered us 8K for the Maxima and since we've owned it from new it wasn't worth getting rid of .Plus its more comfy than the Seat .

Candy White looks great. Quite a few CW mk 6s here in the Gong.

OT, I've got an Invitation from VW to test-drive the new R. Might go and have a bit of a bash, but I can't see it being good enough to replace my R32:D

Hi chaddy

I have found the Mk6 chassis to be more supple on the road compared to the Mk5 overall with better grip and ride .

I was looking at a R20 but my funds wouldn't stretch and similar spec R to the GTi was 70K on road thanks to the LCT .

Take one for a test drive and let us know what you think .

One option I use alot is the active dampener control great on those B grade roads .

So 1 year on and what have all the mk VI owners done to their cars.

Left them stock or modded?

Mine has been left stock as i was deciding which way to go with cars.

As it seems the Golf is a stayer but the wife will be getting it

So it will remain stock. The only thing i am adding this week is an aftermarket sat nav, bluetooth, ipod kit.

I didn't opt for the VW options as they were a rip off, so have just ordered the new Alpine INA-W900E which has it all built in.

Posted

@JohnA - I looked at the Alpine "all in one" solution but preferred the Garmin navigation. I use Alpine exclusively as my head unit of choice in all my vehicles. I just replaced the old IVA-W202E with an IVA-D511RB in my VW. I love the iPod integration and the sound quality. Let us know how you find the Alpine navi.

Are GTD folk welcome here too? Ordered mine in December... not expected here until July because it's a build-to-order with manual transmission and Dynaudio sound system. Starting to go a bit mental waiting for it.

Going to test drive a Gti tomorrow, both manual and DSG. I think I might just like the DSG, even though I love a manual car. Also considering the Nissan 370Z and of course, the Golf R. Had a god lok at the Gti today at the dealer, and the interior layout and quality is first rate. Very nice indeed.

Hi

Well its been 10 months since I've had the car and by next week it will have 30K on the clock .The cars still stock and it will probably stay that way ,I'll just upgrade the tyres when due . I'm happy with the options I chose and the active damper control has been very good ,most of the time I drive around in comfy mode.

I have had a few rattles fixed and its going back Monday to get a major one fixed again, which VW thought they fixed the first time .They ended up changing the heater box but the rattles back .I don't care as long as it gets fixed and doesn't rattle when I change cars .

A friend bought a GTi and has enough of the rattles and has given the car to his wife to drive and has bought himself an new Audi S5 coupe and guess what it rattles too ,so it looks likeit doesn't matter how much you spend .

Cheers
