Hi,

Just been to JB and been told that due to the contract with 7, they are not allowed to give any discount on the RRP ($699). So what's the best price for a TiVo (particularly in Adelaide)?

Cheers....

There was a post in the other TiVo thread yesterday about someone getting one for $600. I paid $548 a month or so ago but that was kind of a freak occurrence. I guess it just depends how good your negotiating skills are. Judging by your first response, they may need some work. :D

I thought retail price maintenance was illegal. :o

I was told the same thing from JB Hifi and walked out intending to investigate further - more on principle then for not saving $50 or so.

The only way I think this could occur is if Ch7 still own the Tivo stock and can then set the sell price as they wish (using JB and others as a point of presence only) and they would thus just receive a flat rate based on the number of units sold.

With that said I walked into HN up the road and got a Tivo for cheaper than the retail price so JB can take their unsold Tivos and stick them up their.... yeah never mind :)

Yeah, what JB told me really doesn't make sense since other members reported getting their TiVo for less than RRP.

BTW, what did you pay for yours?

It was me at JB HiFi Hornsby (northern Sydney) on Thursday night.

They had a sign with $699 crossed out and 'ask us for a deal'.

No negotiating; $600 was the first number the guy said and I bought it straight away (just a TiVo HD, no network adapter).

They had a pile of about 20 boxes in the store with the sign on top.

Previous weekend I had gone into a JB on the south side and the best they would do was $684!

Any chance you can post up a link to a copy of your receipt?

I bought one from DSE this morning and they wouldn't discount.

I'll return it unless they provide a discount.

It'd be more effective if you can get a copy of the receipt from "glenncol" - He bought his from DSE for $600.

........

Just wonder if Myer stocks TiVo at all - They are having a 15% sale on electronic/electrical (ends Mon).

Talking about Myer, Gee....

Trying to call Myer to find out if they sell TiVo at all - First call got through after 5 minutes ringing - saleman asked me to hold then HUNG UP. Second call still ringing after 9 minutes 25 second ..... And Myer management is wondering why their business is not doing too good! Even BigW, Kmart, Target handle phone calls a lot better than that.

rant off.

Wow I'm glad I got mine when I did.

Went to DSE Powerhouse in Preston. $600 for TiVo, wireless adapter and HDMI cable.

Andrew

No way, damn how long ago was that?

That's the 2nd best deal I've heard - the best deal was $400 (in the other TiVo thread).

I am still trying to negotiate a group buy of TiVo. Will let you know if I have any luck.

I also read that they are about to launch a promotion to DOMINOES PIZZA staff when they turn on the ordering system via TiVo. Anyone work there and can suss this out?

It was just before Xmas. I pride myself on my negotiating skills. The best thing is to ask for a low price you've seen in this thread. And then if they say no just say "well that's ok, JB or HN said they'd do it for that".

See how quickly they change their tune.

Yeah wish I went to that trades show. It doesn't really count anyways because it was direct from TiVo and they had to get rid of the stock.

Nice one, which HN store was that, and did they do that price willingly, or was it the old "I have to talk to the manager" crock

HN - Marion (SA). Rang them up, first quote was $649 - told them some people paid just $600 (no wireless adaptor) @ DSE - requoted $640 with wireless adaptor. It's a reasonable price for me, so I went for it.

No manager approval required! :)

So in the end did you get it from Marion and for which price?
