FMB Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 You may be a little confused. There is no internet usage for HNP. HNP provides networking between TiVo's and PC's only on your home network. It does not use any of your ISP allowance. Movie Downloads use allowance, but HNP is not required to download movies. Peter. No confusion My theory is that I will be able to offload and keep TV shows via HNP That will free up space to download movies which I will be able to do after the 18th without it affecting my download quota I should have explained my somewhat skewed logic more clearly
petef Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Ah, yes that convoluted logic does make sense.
DonR1503559521 Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I guess with the $5 "amnesty" (on Nov 25) for the $199 home networking package... buying a cheap TiVo right now makes even more sense. May I ask, what is this $5 amnesty about?
David Williams Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 May I ask, what is this $5 amnesty about? For 24 hours only you can buy the HNP or a Desktop key for $5
Dupeykaz Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Hi Can't seem to start a new topic so have jumped in here to ask if anyone knows much about Next Wave PVR 6990? I am looking to add a PVR HD twin tuner set top box to our household to accompany my old faithful Topfield 5000. I'm steering clear of current Topfield. Not sure what is going on with them and not happy that old forum was yanked off without warning. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks KAZ Dupeykaz
ozdoc Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Can't seem to start a new topic so have jumped in here to ask if anyone knows much about Next Wave PVR 6990? Probably better to ask about it here: Nextwave 6990 thread A search function for keywords / threads is in the top right of the screen. Personally, if you can afford it, I'd suggest consider TiVo, Beyonwiz P1/P2 or Topfield 2400. You only buy it once, but have to use it every day.. (not saying the Nextwave isn't any good, but there just is not a lot of user reports around here to give it a good thumbs up or down) Also being in a TiVo thread, well, TiVo users are a bit like Mac and iPhone owners, once they get a taste, they want to convert the world.. :-)
uwlaw Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 (edited) For 24 hours only you can buy the HNP or a Desktop key for $5 How do you take advantage of the "amnesty" deal? And can everyone do it, or only those who purchased their unit before a particular date? Edited November 19, 2009 by uwlaw

I'm interested in a beyonwiz or Tivo for myself later on once I get a cheaper internet deal (paying a fortune for tiny 400mb via telstra at present). For now just looking for a good solid HD PRV for my mum to use (non internet user). Mum has been very happy with SD Topfield 5000, but would like to see some of the shows coming to new HD seven channel when Tassie finally gets it in December. Regards KAZ Dupeykaz

Dupeykaz Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 If you get the same as the east coast capital cities, there will be nothing on the HD channels that isn't on SD. Heartbeat and Lost are two that are going to be on the HD seven before SD. Heartbeat hasn't been on anywhere for a long while.
Bazzaa Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Heartbeat and Lost are two that are going to be on the HD seven before SD. Heartbeat hasn't been on anywhere for a long while. Sorry to say but Paul55 has it right. All HD channels, with the exception of OneHD, are currently airing exactly the same schedule as the main network SD channel does. This looks likely to continue for the foreseeable future. The shows you're referring to will be on 7TWO, which is SD, not HD. You may find this blog useful... http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2009/11/returning-heartbeat.html There's actually very little reason to lash out on a HD tuner as things currently stand. Even OneHD programming can be seen on SD channel 12 in many areas.

Jono101 Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Harvey Norman Bondi Junction has the Tivo 160GB on clearance price of $449 and birhtday bundle for $699
petef Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Harvey Norman Bondi Junction has the Tivo 160GB on clearance price of $449 and birhtday bundle for $699 That's even better then JB who have dropped them to $498. http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/home-theatr...tivo-box/440788 Don't know about DSE dropping TiVo, but there is a larger drive TiVo Due soon. Soon= Not until Next year according to the Tivo people over on Whirlpool. Soon is actually Dec 1st when the 320Gb model goes on sale. This is why the 160Gb is currently on run-out. DSE will not be getting the 320Gb model, and will likely phase out TiVo altogether. Peter.
AndrewW Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Harvey Norman Bondi Junction has the Tivo 160GB on clearance price of $449 and birhtday bundle for $699 If anyone has a receipt at that price or lower I'd appreciate a copy
ThanksForAllTheFish Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Does anyone know if the 160GB models being sold in store now come with the Home Networking Package? I noticed Tivo are selling them on their website for $599 including HNP and wireless dongle, but as I don't need the dongle I would prefer to buy in-store for $448 if it includes HNP.
ozdoc Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Does anyone know if the 160GB models being sold in store now come with the Home Networking Package? Apparently it is included if purchasing a TiVo 160 at HN or JBs. It's also going on 'sale' again for $10 on Friday 11 December, if you can get a better price on the 160 elsewhere.
AndrewW Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 It's also going on 'sale' again for $10 on Friday 11 December, if you can get a better price on the 160 elsewhere. That's my plan. $450 for the 160Gb model, $70 for the Wifi Adaptor, $10 for the software next week and $120 for a 1TB drive. Total cost $650. Perfect
Ps3Tony Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Does a Tivo box have 3 tuners + amplification built in?
ThanksForAllTheFish Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Does a Tivo box have 3 tuners + amplification built in? No, only 2 tuners. Not sure what you mean by amplification.
windeath Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Now here's a cheap deal...man that seller sounds like a really nice chap. TiVo 4 Sale
petef Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 No, only 2 tuners. Not sure what you mean by amplification. If he means so that you can connect speakers directly to it, then no. It does have quite a few output options though: HDMI Component S-Video Composite Optical Audio Stereo Audio (line level) Peter.
Johnny_Boy Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 That's my plan.$450 for the 160Gb model, $70 for the Wifi Adaptor, $10 for the software next week and $120 for a 1TB drive. Total cost $650. Perfect where are you getting a 1Tb tivo drive for $120???
Eggbeater Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 where are you getting a 1Tb tivo drive for $120??? I think he is just talking about a normal 1tb drive to install? I read most people are going with the WD10EVDS? Cheapest I could see was $127 http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search...EVDS&spos=3
