Did you miss the part where I said this?

But from a business perspective, they may opt to do a Feb full launch, which is a shame,

So I do understand if they do delay, it could be for a numerous strategic and business reasons or even financial,I do remember Seven having a down turn profit this year.

Okay fair enough. I am for once delighted to see southerners willing to accept a delay.

A northern vs southern and city vs country menality starts here. Actually I'd be really delighted if Seven delays the channel to February. Lets hope Seven do, but I doubt it given the pressure by the "whinging" southeastern city viewers.

I don't believe it really hurts to see the "whinging" southeasterm city viewers cop a delay in launching a new channel. I want the "whingers" to experience bush country life for a change. It would be a great life changing opportunity for those "whingers" if they could experience Imparja or Southern cross without GO! or ONE HD or even ten. Then they might start to appreciate what they have.

If Seven can delay the channel it definitely have my vote!

I know that feeling. I remember waking up early on 28 april 2008 in my northern suburbs Darwin home and tuning on DDT Ten at 5:45 am, and at 6 am (15 minutes later) the screen changed from a test pattern to Indian 20 overs cricket. It was such a wonderful feeling. It was such a historic moment i would never forget. I had not seen Ten much between 2003 and 2008. But with ONE hd and GO! I haven't seen those channels before and it would be really interesting to see them. I'd be thrilled.

(back on topic)

I'd be even more thrilled to see seven's 2nd channel when it arrives as well. But it is only fair that a delay occurs until more areas catch up with digital and other things, that would be fair.

It's such a pity when I read other people posts complaining about aspects of extra channels such as poor quality, etc, and I am not sure if the city people really were that thrilled to see TEN HD, or ONE HD or GO! and I am not sure if the city people will be that thrilled to see Seven's new channel.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand your logic. I live in a regional area, and whilst we only had a delay in the launch of One HD, I do know what its like to wait... however without channel 7 launching, the regional affiliates will have no need to prepare to simulcast. The idea that teaching the city folk a lesson in patience through 7 delaying its SD2 will only lead to further delays for regionals. So your method would only mean you have to wait longer too.

I thought TEN HD was great. I'm still gutted we lost it. I'm not a huge sports guy and I love my entertainment in crystal clear HD. It really bothers me that House, Burn Notice, Monk, Lie To Me and other shows aren't available in HD in this country anymore. It's like we've taken a step back or something!

This debate has "raged" for a year now and yes non sport fans have lost out to some degree and sports fans have gained. The same argument could be put when HD sports were only in SD if Ten HD existed and ONE HD did not.

As previously stated, once MPEG-4 becomes accepted in the market via STB, PVR or TV units then realistically tow or more HD stations could be broadcast after 2013. Basically all new equipment should have MPEG-4 (yes some doesn't we all know that) included which means the remaining 50+ percent without digital should be ready in 2013 for MPEG-4 and presumeably some current digital users with only MPEG-2 will upgrade.

If each network had 2 HD channels and 2 additional SD channels (2013+) then this argument would be done and dusted.

yeah, we should all suffer just because some people choose to live in woop woop. :o

Maybe they should start broadcast to all fictional made up places first such as Woop Woop and Inner West Sydney. Both are equally made up names

Yeah, maybe. I only wish the people in big cities would have to wait like the regionals but then it would make regionals wait longer. Country people just can't win can they?

I feel greatly for the people in areas like Alice, Mount isa, towns in regional WA and regional SA. They possibly will not get the same channels as sydney or melbourne ever. :( These areas might not get the chance to see GO! or even ONE HD ever, and maybe Darwin could end up in the same boat as well.

But it has always been like that. Sydney, Melb, Brisbane, etc gets the service first and Alice, darwin, etc has to wait til the last.

I reckon the people in big cities will whinge about 72 once it starts like they do with ONE HD, TEN HD and GO! Wait and see!

The debate about ONE HD & TEN HD is the most boring debate I have even seen. Can't people get over the fact that what ever TEN dishes out is free to watch? How will people feel if TEN decide to switch off ONE HD? No more HD from Ten, no more, TEN can easily say that. Would people complain more? Would they complain less? For once I wouldn't mind because at least Darwin will be treated more fairly.

How would people feel if NINE decides to switch off GO!? Would they complain more? Would they complain less? For once I wouldn't mind because at least Darwin will be treated more fairly.

How would people feel if SEVEN decides to cancel plans for the extra channel? Would they complain more? Would they complain less? For once I wouldn't mind because at least Darwin will be treated more fairly.

Smile :) when you watch TV. Be happy with what you have got.

just because we have something that others don't does not mean that we have no right to complain if we believe it is still not good enough or it could be improved. just because we have a health system and other countries don't does that mean we don't have a right to complain if people die due to stuff ups, we should just be happy we have any kind of health system no matter how poor it is. that argument doesn't fly with health care any more than it does with anything else in life. just because tv is not the most important thing in the world does not mean that discussion on it is forbidden, if the whole world only ever focussed on the biggest issue and ignored everything else then nothing would ever get done. and if our discussions of the digital channels are ever actually listened to it would result in an improved offering for regionals once they finally do get it.

Just bringing the topic back to 7's multichannel...

Seven appoints Sales boss for digital channel

http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2009/10/seven-...al-channel.html

As I understand it is likely to be called "Channel mate" or "mate" or a variant as mentioned in Mediaspy forum news or 72, and it is likely to beam in Brisbane, sydney, melbourne, adelaide and perth at first.

Regional areas like PRIME and SEVEN QLD might get it later. Dunno about southern cross for Tassie, but Darwin, central australia, maybe GWN, and regional SA appears certain to miss out.

Am I correct?

It could still do lifestyle shows during the day, so I wouldn't rule it out completely. :)

Well I'm looking forward to it, whenever it launches. It will be interesting to see what content they will actually offer though.

Where do you get your info from, all the text I've read hardly mention beaming locations, let alone regionals may be getting it later. They have barely announced a launch date. Share some links or something...or is this just the Forums rumour mill in full swing yet again. Prime (and WIN) have been very good to us regionals in the past so I am not expecting any delay in the launch...it was only the wonderful lords of SC10 with their endless coming soon or mid year etc etc. I am sure there will be an official announcement soon from Seven and Prime that will put the rumours to rest.

I agree, Prime and GWN will not delay the launch. The only delay will be if an area gets their 7 from Macquarie/Southern Cross

Correct. At least I bothered to include my (be it general) location in my profile, unlike waldoh.

Tv tonight says (david) whispers that 7s second channel wont be called channel mate i think 7 are playing silly buggers

.

No joke.

I think if Mate was the name 7 would come out swinging with it rather than annouce the new GM position or nothing else.

7-TWO looks more likely.

yeah, sorry guys i was going to post this but i forgot and i was sick yesterday, i hope it is called mate now.

if you look at channel 7 primetime shows, Dancing with the Stars, Grey's, Desperate Housewives, Better Homes, Brothers & Sisters they are all very female shows, don't you think?, So mate could have male programing.

Christ, how often do we have to repeat this? Ten showed plenty of live HD sport as part of TEN HD. It would have been perfectly good to continue this, and then show more SD sport on ONE SD all day and night.
