jmos1503559753 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) So does the W1000 have vertical lens-shift? It's $1506 here, + $16.44 delivery (at least for me). Then ring up Officeworks and it'll be (their price + delivery) - 5% + $5 "handling fee". So around $1452 delivered. Although you may want to try your local Officeworks to simplify any returns should you get a DOA or imperfect unit. Officeworks generally has a good return policy, at least better than most "box-movers". The W1000 lacks any adjustable lens shift so placement is critical and limited. I purchased one of the following from Selby's, mounted it approx 4.7m from my front wall and played around with the zoom between 110 to 125 inches until I settled on purchasing a 120inch screen. My first row seating is at 4.5m and second at 6.3m, ceiling height is approx 3m and the bottom of screen will end up sitting approx 85cm from the floor. http://www.selbyacoustics.com.au/storefron...520&c=84146 Heres a good review http://www.projectorreviews.com/benq/w1000/tour.php Edited July 20, 2010 by jmos
Chris McMahon Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 http://www.selbyacoustics.com.au/storefron...520&c=84146 Which one? Your link takes me to a list of 29.
jmos1503559753 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) Which one? Your link takes me to a list of 29. I used this one http://www.selbyacoustics.com.au/storefron...amp;i=248356694 But which one you choose will depend on screen size/projector to screen distance/vertical offset/ceiling height/position of screen(height) I used the following calculator but confirmed most of the above by moving my projector around on a chair and different size books to control height. Once I worked out what screen size I was happy with and at what height my screen was going to sit at I than ordered my ceiling mount and screen. http://www.benq.com/product/projector/calculator/index.htm This is my first projector setup so please anyone correct me if what I have said is not quite right. NinjaB Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Harvey do sell Benq but would have to get it in for me. I was thinking I could put a deposit of $500 or so and get a better projector around the $2.5 - $2800 mark. What else would be ideal or better at this range than the W1000? (that harvey stocks or can provide) And I can only put the unit maybe 2-5m from the wall, will this be an issue? Thanks
NinjaB Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 im thinking Epson EH-TW3500 and wont be able to stretch any further. if I can work them down to 2.5k top 2.6k id be happy with that.
superaaaa Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 im thinking Epson EH-TW3500 and wont be able to stretch any further. if I can work them down to 2.5k top 2.6k id be happy with that. I'm thinking of picking one up this week from these guys: http://www.ausmedia.com.au/dynamic/cgi-bin...CIAL+EMP-TW3500

franga Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Thats a really great price.....think I will print it out and bring it in the Harvey haha Speaking of Harvey.......went in today and found out they will order in the W1000 but they said the price they buy it for is $2300.....dam.
NinjaB Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Go back aand tell them that the RRP is $1999 now and that their system obviously has not updated the RRP on it. Tell them they re welcome to give the local disty of Benq agent in australia a call to confirm as I am sure Benq would not be too happy about them trying to rip off consumers above normal RRP.
NinjaB Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Harvey down here will give me the Epson at $2575 on int free after negotiation.
Guest Big90inOz Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I'm thinking of getting the BenQ W1000 for my son's home theatre, looking at ceiling mounting the projector at approx 3.7m and looking at a 100" screen. Do you think this will work ok ? Thanks for any help

Yep. At 3.7m you've got a range of 88" - 105". http://www.projectorcentral.com/BenQ-W1000...culator-pro.htm
alessiman Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I picked up a w1000 for $1569 last week Very pleased with it and can't wait for AVICO to come calibrate it properly along with my 63" Samsung What I love about it is how watchable it is in daylight conditions. If your looking for a good sub <2k projector this would definately be the one to get Some -vs however - No Horizontal lens shift (even my 6 year old PJ-TX100 had that!) - Finding 30mm M4 screws to ceiling mount this was a ****. Ended up having to get them from Keables - Component Inputs aren't very deep. I couldn't actually put my old component cables in (no matter as i am running HDMI only) - Louder than my old PJ-TX100 But I am nit picking. Great unit!
jmos1503559753 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Not sure if this is still available? Demo Benq W1000 done 7 min only. Full Warranty boxed as new $1300 http://penhometheatre.com.au/bargains.htm Recently purchased a fixed screen, previously projected on my dark blue wall, I'm so blown away by the picture quality for a $1500 projector. Quite a difference in picture between LCD and DLP, definately worth comparing the different projector types before purchasing, dlp, lcd lcos.
crazy_smurf Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 so no activity on this thread since september last year...how do u guys rate this projector after having it for this long?? I saw one of these on the weekend and it truly suprised me how good it was in a lowly lit room. For the price it seems hard to beat

I saw one of these on the weekend and it truly suprised me how good it was in a lowly lit room. For the price it seems hard to beat I'm still very happy with my W1000, really for $1500 you can't go wrong, sure blacks won't be as black as some of the more expensive projectors but unless you have them side by side it won't be a problem. Everyone that has seen this projector have been very impressed. Its my first projector so perhaps when I update I'll than realize what I'm missing out with some of the more expensive projectors but for now I'm quite satisfied. Its colour and brightness is fantastic, I always intended to update and move the W1000 into the games room where the extra brightness will come in handy. Not to mention the cheap globes/lamps can be purchased for around $200 and supposed to last up to 4000 hours. I really like the DLP picture compared to some LCD's that I have seen but everyones different and rainbows may be a problem? Regards John Edited March 23, 2011 by jmos

So no problems with it? have you had to replace a lamp yet? I have to admit I did notice a slight rainbow type affect when i demo'd the projector, and I think its probably acceptable considering the price. Though when I go back I will be taking some of my own Blurays with specific scenes in mind to check out the rainbow affect in full and also the contrast levels.
WalamusPrime Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 I opened up my W1000 today to see if I could sort out this dust blob I've had for a while. Few squirts with the compressed air around the colour wheel section and presto, the chunky bit of dust is now gone. No more dust blob for me! Found it surprisingly easy to open up, and leaves no indication that it has been opened. I am currently having another issue though for the past few months, where the image is randomly flickering between lighter/darker during video playback. It looks almost as if it's being switched between the economy and standard bulb modes. I have yet to determine whether it is the projector or my Media Centre PC causing this... Will update when I figure it out.
kopthat Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Does anyone have the W1000+ to comment on how it performs and if they are happy with it. Do they come with a standard 2 year warranty or that just something the digital centre have ? (I have heard some horror stories about them) I'm thinking of this one perhaps as an upgrade from Mitsubishi HC1100 720p before I jump in to 3D, and this one can be had for around $1250 The JVC X3 for just under $4,000 is still a bit much, but all accounts an excellent projector
