bt5298 Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hi all. Don't know much about Home Theatre Systems. Looking at the JB website. Are the Sherwood, Sony or Pioneer ones any good? Or should I be purchasing an individual AVR and speakers? http://www.jbhifi.com.au/home-theatre/systems/
tonyjg Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 (edited) much depends ... 1 - on your budget 2 - on what type of room that you will be using them in 3 - on what your peceived level of 'quality' is like - in terms of sound. but mainly your budget !!! The old saying is that YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR - and with some of these systems, you aren't going to get really all that much. IGNORE ALL THE FLASHY LIGHTS / NICE LOOKING SPEAKER CRAP and try to have a listen to them. The BIG trouble is of course - JB doesn't have the ROOMS or SPACE for listening. Demos on their premises is going to be really hit or miss. Have a look where possible at the WIRING - its probably going to be quite THIN material - not exactly earth shattering in terms of sound. BE CAREFUL with the hype about HDMI - it might accept HDMI but does it do HIDEF BLU-RAY AUDIO decoding - such as Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD MA. I suspect that many of these HomeTheatreInABox DONT do this - more so at these prices. Get the model number and google it as well. and have a read of this STICKY thread as well - http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/109262.html Edited December 3, 2009 by tonyjg
