el-ricardo Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 (edited) Hmm. Updates for something I can't buy yet.. Man why couldn't they release this in July when AUD is high and mighty...I have a problem with PC 1080p video with 1.95, i hope this new one fix it. Yeah it's like rubbing our nose in it that being downunder we get things last but hopefully that means all the problems will be rectified when we do get it! And treblid, what issues are you having with PC video? PM me if you need help as I have quite a bit of experience with HTPC's as I run one through my unit. Changelog for 1.97 doesn't mention anything about video bug fixes. Edited October 15, 2008 by el-ricardo

Procrastinator Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Ran the update before bed last night woke up this morning and my greatest fears are realized, stuck on 3 mins remaining so i said a few hari krishnas and did a power off/on pppphhheeeewwww!!! it still works and i returned to the update and it finished with no dramas. i think i'll forget about doing the updates now unless i come across a glitch which really bothers me, its just so much of a gamble plus i bought my 4308 from Singapore so i dont have a local warranty..... I really dont understand why it is so hard for DENON to fix their update service, the PS3 updates wirelessly with no problems and looking on the AVS forums DENON'S servers are causing heaps of people grief and keeping the warranty repair centres busy. Anyway thats my 2c worth im now safely on 1.97 also just noticed an update for the PS3 to 2.5 murphy law hopefully wont apply.

If memory serves no warranty even if it's Australian? IIRC Denon did say update at your own risk. But it's fun to update right? On the edge not knowing whether it will work or not.. :D I really dont understand why it is so hard for DENON to fix their update service, the PS3 updates wirelessly with no problems and looking on the AVS forums DENON'S servers are causing heaps of people grief and keeping the warranty repair centres busy.Anyway thats my 2c worth im now safely on 1.97 also just noticed an update for the PS3 to 2.5 murphy law hopefully wont apply. I updated from 1.95 to 1.97, I think Denon is checking all the downloads first before flashing (At least I don't recall the text "CHECKING" appearing on the lcd before. If you happen to have a HTPC, can you tell me if you can get 1080p PC video through properly? You will still need to update one more time to buy that audessy upgrade though.

I have no issues on two HTPC boxes running 1080p through the Denon unit via HDMI. What graphics card are you running? I've always used ATI based cards as I've just found them to be less problemsome than the Nvidia with HDMI. Ones a 3650 and the new box is running a 4670. Catalyst software is very important to be updated, they released Catalyst 8.10 last night. PS xpmediacentre.com.au is the best place for help and assistance, but as I said if you need a hand don't hesitate to PM. Edited October 16, 2008 by el-ricardo

'CHECKING' never came up when i upgraded the first time (1.6 to 1.8 i think), i sat there and watched the display the whole time. Has anyone heard of a bricked unit on the 1.95 upgrade?
HumanMedia Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 The Australian paid upgrades are now available. Hard to spot the form though on the site. here it is: http://www.audioproducts.com.au/downloadce...instuctions.pdf

Has anyone heard of a bricked unit on the 1.95 upgrade? This CHECKING and AUTHENTICATING thing is new.. It just feels safer to see that word CHECKING now. hahha.... Can't they simply do it online? I feel like I'm back in the 90s doing all this paper work...

Tell me about it I dont have a fax or an abacus either -old technology. The alternative is to print the form, fill it out and mail it to: Audio Products Group Attn: Steve Wright PO Box 150 Mascot NSW 1460 Mines in the mail, cant wait for dynamic EQ!!!! Oh and apparently the upgrades will now come through the server in Japan not the UK. Edited October 17, 2008 by HumanMedia
Johnson4 Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Hmmm... seems a bit rich asking for another $150 to update something so ridiculously expensive already (yes, I bought a 4308, despite the pricing inequalities). Has anyone ever updated their Denon with a USB key? I simply can't get a cable to my modem, so it's either USB or wireless. Also, where are the free updates for the Australian models? I went looking on the AudioProducts website, but they only seem to have PDFs for download. Thanks!

Can't wait that long.. I'm in Perth, snail mail will prob take 2 years. Thanks for posting the info here though (it's legit right? Not some scam..) Pending approval from my finance minister, will fax it on Monday (since it's probably after 5 in Sydney now).. Oh and apparently the upgrades will now come through the server in Japan not the UK. My Denon is from Singapore, no prob getting this update from Australia (or Japan) right? There's this not-so-small fineprint that says they aren't responsible for bricking. And at the top it says the upgrade is only available to units purchased in Australia & NZ.

I purchased mine in Australia and it came from Singapore LOL does that count. Anyway i think i'll get this upgrade soon just cause i can even though the 4308 sounds great were all striving for better sound/vision.. P.S all of my updates have been done wirelessly sofar so im probably going to do the upgrade the same, i think its only a 15 minute download so not as big a risk as the 60 minute ones.. So much for the email from denon to keep us informed
el-ricardo Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Email from Denon from the UK yep, good customer feedback! My dealer emailed me at 2:12pm WST about this so I would say his finger was on the pulse... but now I have to go home to get my ID number!
HumanMedia Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Got an email address?PM me if you don't want to post it. Customer support wouldn't give an email address and they wanted fax or hardcopy only, something to do with an image of signature.

el-ricardo Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 If anyone has any luck please post. I suspect APG will have a wad of faxes to go through on Monday morning. Happy upgrading everyone.
Procrastinator Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 1. Does anyone know if you can fill out the upgrade form if you bought your Denon from overseas? 2. Can i simply fill out the form with my details and lie about the Australian dealer bit? or do you think they will be verifying infomation with the dealer. Why should those who've bought from O/S be made to feel like criminals it not like my unit fell off the back of a truck its a legitamate product and a damn expensive one at that. To anyone else who's bought a DENON from overseas and planning on getting the upgrade whats your plan to get round this bit of fine print ..........................

ministry Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I look forward to hearing about the feedback as i have two hongkong models Hopefully all us os buyers will be okay.
Guest Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Well I've just faxed my copy through. I was not going to do it, but was told it works well with movies also.
blairy Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I look forward to hearing about the feedback as i have two hongkong models Hopefully all us os buyers will be okay. I'd be quite surprised if they were to say "No you can'rt have the upgrade we don't want your money." I shouldn't imagine there would be any issues. On the AVS forums some there was concern from some who bought their avr from non-recognised dealers that they would not be able to get the upgarde. Their concern was unfounded so I can't imagine you'll have an issue. cheers
MACCA350 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Just had a look at the info they are asking for............do they want to know how many times I go for a cr@p as well cheers
Guest Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Who knows they might, they might want to sell you denon toilet paper
