Guest Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 I feel like I'm being argumentative, which I don't like doing given what I read in others' posts around the web, but breaking traction in the wet isn't difficult in almost any car. It says more about the electronic traction control system, rather than tyres. I can easily break traction in the dry when I turn off ESC/ESP/DSC or whatever the different brands call it now. I don't do that though, once was enough to understand the benefit it supplies. I.E. I'm not recommending it. Also, it seems a bit strange you've got larger diameter tyres on the front wheels. http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator/225-40R18/225-35R18 There's a warning on that page saying the difference of > 3% from stock is dangerous (but if BMW have it set up that way as stock it's fine) but it's a new thing for me to see - 4/all-wheel drive would want them to be the same, my car's manual states they should be within 3% for the traction control to work properly. Not to mention I think it would look better with larger tyres on the back instead. But I may be going too far with that statement. Looking around the web, I don't see anyone else doing it though.

Mercedes Benz C63 AMG runs with 255/35/19 front 285/30/20 rear in fact all 3 of these cars run staggered setups with smaller rear profiles, the Beemmer is running with a half empty tank, the Alfa has a full tank, the Merc is a notch shy of full (lots of weight differential) 1 litres of petrol = roughly 750 grams ( Beemer is carrying 23 kilos less than the Alfa and the Merc is a V8 anyway, it needs to carry more fuel, but taking into account its a notch down that would equate to about 58 litres which is the Alfa's capacity tank, The Beemer is the odd one out trying to slip that past the keepers ;-) ) i gave it to the Quadrifoglio just based on looks alone 1

Though 20" rims will make a big difference to how it looks - nice. I didn't realise a wider tyre had such a big impact on the overall radius though, until now I was pretty sure that middle number was the sidewall height.
mello yello Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 yeah im buggered with it myself, the middle number is actually the profile, or aspect ratio, it is a percentage figure not an actual metric http://www.bridgestonetyrecentre.co.nz/tyres/how-to-read-your-tyre-size/ so in fact they are actually pretty close to being the same rolling diameter you are correct though, i dont think there is a hatch anywhere that staggers their profiles, mostly done on performance rear wheel drive sedans, hatches are all either FWD or AWD, where it wont work... i know its a hatch thread, but i didnt want to waste a good clip or a good picture 1

mello yello Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 thats not mine, btw, but summ lucky so and so, who probably doesnt even work lol youll need about $160,000 for that one, those carbon ceramics add another $13,000 to the price ...now carbon ceramics, thats where the fun starts 1
agelessgoodguy Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 The reference to trying to make the rears spin in the wet was with the ESC & Traction etc turned off, but really a comparision of the effect the new tyres had to the oild ones which is what was being discussed. The ESC & traction etc are as is said normally left turned on when street driving its just too good not too. Yes its possible to deliberately spin the tyres if one wants to as you say especially with a car like this. MY has clarified the tyres story, Thanks mate.
SimonNo10 Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 (edited) Thought I would chime in here as I own a 2014 Ford Fiesta ST. Since purchase I've had the Rear motor mount replaced with a Cobb one and have currently a Stage 2 Bluefin map with a GGR induction kit.See below for links to both: http://www.superchips.com.au/products/superchips-bluefin http://shop.grahamgoode.com/fiesta-st180-induction-kit-ggr-dais-direct-air-induction-system-kn-ggf5000-71759-p.asp It just transforms the car and improves it out of site plus I got a 3" custom turbo back exhaust done locally which sounds excellent. After months of reading and having owned the above (tunes) for over a year, I've decided to try and different company and their remap. Peron Tuning Stage 1 for the moment then going stage 2 Pro map with a new intercooler which will be available next week for order. They are currently testing the stage 2 Pro tune so I'll be using the standard stage 2 tune (works with the new intercooler) until the Pro version comes out. I've been in contact with the Australian Peron distributor who is testing the Pro tune and his said it's great. It's release is still about 2 months away. I should receive the Stage 1 tune next week. The good thing about the Bluefin unit is you can return the car back to factory so you can put a different tune (map) on the car. The current changes I've made to the car will work fine with the new tune I've been told which is good. Malcolm Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 To work out the overall dia of your wheel tyre combo . eg 225/40/19 = 662.6 multiply the width 225 x profile 0.40 x 2 + wheel dia (19x25.4 ) 482.6 = 662.6 Cheers
DoggieHowser Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I really do miss my Fiesta ST. It's such an involving car to drive. From all accounts the new range has lost a bit of that magic. I had a 2015 but it looks like the one to have was the last 2016 one with the revised suspension geometry from the ST220

The Peron Stage 1 has been posted today so might receive it this Friday but it's been posted from Sydney (I'm in Melbourne) so will see. I've read allot online with comparisons between the Bluefin and Peron and the later always comes out on top for performance gains. Hopefully will hear how soon their new intercooler will be released and then I can order that which will make the car ready for the Peron Stage 2 Pro map.

Power wise its noticeable how much more rear grip she's gained, Al would be impressed with very little sqiggies now LOL. Will have to do a timed 0-60 now to see what really has happened but so far so good ageless stopped by and got a chance for a little lunch time run through the chicanes around my place. Its a lot of fun this car ! Its quite sharp in the steering. I can tell you this much, no squiggles no matter how much I jammed that pedal and I got a few chances. Ageless took all the electronic nannies off to at one stage. Can definitely get up and go this thing and a great note to the exhaust when pushed. like it though that lot more sedate if just want to trundle around. 2
SimonNo10 Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 An update on my Fiesta ST mods. Purchased and received Eibach Springs (20mm) and Eibach Anti Roll Bar Kit and having it all installed this Thursday. Looking forward to see how it changes the cars handling as they receive very good reviews. 1
blybo Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Sat in a Golf R Mk7.5 weekend before last, and test drove a Mk7, they didn't want our kids booster seats in the new one, was wet out too and probably didn't want their showroom hero car all dirty New interior is a huge set up from our MK7 GTI. I actually prefer the slightly heavier feel of the (Mk7) R over the GTI and the slightly laggier response, makes it smoother away from a standstill but still HEAPS of grunt. My wife got to test drive the Mk 7.5 last Friday but typical of a dealership dealing with a female (it's her purchase), they only let her drive to the freeway, go to the next off ramp and back to the dealership, despite her complaints. That dealership just lost a $67000 sale! She said it was almost WRX like in sound (maybe just the new exhaust without carbon build up) and the new 7 speed DSG is much more sensitive to cog swapping. She said she wanted the wagon this time for the occasional need for more boot room when I'm away in the bogan wagon, but now trying to talk herself back into the hatch, in Wolfsburg trim. 1

We will have to order a Wolfsburg sight unseen to get one. Can't even give us a brochure on the R, never mind the Wolfy. I guess you don't need to advertise if you pre-sell the entire allotment. Only 150 wagons coming. At least they are prepared to hold it until my wife lease expires in Feb . The wagon she is thinking of putting a deposit on is due in November so surprised they would hold for that long.
