Dilmar Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 I currently get Foxtel through Optus TV and want to switch to Foxtel direct so I can get an IQ2. My street is cabled for both Optus and Foxtel. If I switch, would I be able to use the existing plugs/sockets, or would I have to have new holes put into my wall? Many thanks.
mtv Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Both companies require separate cabling & outlets, although some installers cheat/are lazy and will use the existing cabling.

My apartment comes with many wall mounts which each have 4 connections (phone line, ADSL, antenna & Pay TV connection slots). I was told by the agent that the foxtel iQ2 STB is connected directly to the "Pay TV" slot in the wall. The problem is that this connection on the wall looks more like a telephone line slot and nothing like the usual cable connection that I currently use. Is their a way to connect to STB via this connection (I believe it's very similar to a normal telephone line connection)? Thanks and sorry for my stupidity

That would be the easiest and most reliable way of knowing what connections are present... mind you, different services can use the same type of connector. You also didn't mention if your iQ2 box is satellite or cable.... as the coax/connection requirements are different for the two. Cable requires only one connection, satellite requires two connections.

Cheers Cable/Satellite boxes are not interchangeable... eg: you can't use a cable box on satellite and vice-versa, so it's important to know which service the new building is wired for. I guess Foxtel can change the boxes over, but it probably attracts a fee... you need to check with Foxtel on that score.
