Neerav Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 fyi guys I just scored this exclusive interview/story for my blog :-) "Hybrid TV’s chief executive Robbee Minicola said that by late 2010 their CASPA video on demand service will have FREE advertiser funded pay per view TV shows and movies on TiVO Australia PVRs and other devices, in a one-on-one interview with Rambling Thoughts Blog late last week." Full info at http://www.bhatt.id.au/blog/tivo-australia...des-and-movies/ What do you think of the plans for CASPA?
pgdownload Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 What do you think of the plans for CASPA?Not unexpected. The price point of $1.95 per episode of a show seems pretty high (ok for a movie IMO). Although given the capabilities of the Tivo I'd assume this would largely be used by people that missed an episode for some reason and just wanted a one off catch up. Wonder if it will cover current season content? Now what would be really smart is if you could set the Tivo to note if there's a clash of three shows and check if a caspa option was available. Then it could auto download either version (ads or pay) of one show and record the other two. I presume Caspa has done its sums, as this will be a long hard slog into profitability IMO. How many Tivo's have been sold (connected to really high speed internet?) 100,000? Internet TVs are also still a minute portion of households. Assuming maybe 5% of households on any given night would use Caspa that's a about 5000-10,000 people for advertisers to spruke to. Hardly seem worth the "millions" being invested. k3nnis888 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Hi Guys, Anyone know what type of sound does Caspa movies at the moment use? DD5.1? DTS5.1? Or just stereo. Also what video resolution does it use? 720P? Cheers, K.

I imagine dd5.1 ; maybe some dd2.0 ones Now located within CASPA On-Demand, you can download your favourite movies straight to your TiVo with Blockbuster Movies on Demand. With over 290 movies to choose from in widescreen, surround sound, Sure CASPA only offer SD quality movies (at the moment), so 576i atm I guess.. http://www.techau.tv/blog/category/iptv/ Edited July 13, 2010 by cwt
Puss in Books Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 (edited) Isn't "Free Ad-Funded Pay Per View" a contradiction in terms? Edited July 14, 2010 by vjp
steelpaw Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 QUOTENow located within CASPA On-Demand, you can download your favourite movies straight to your TiVo with Blockbuster Movies on Demand. With over 290 movies to choose from in widescreen, surround sound, Blockbuster's gone from Tivo now. And good riddance, I say. All the movies are through CASPA, which has a much more reasonable billing structure. Although the prices are the same, CASPA only asks for ten dollars upfront, not thirty, and doesn't automatically top itself up from your credit card the way Blockbuster did.
Robert E Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Isn't "Free Ad-Funded Pay Per View" a contradiction in terms? It reads more like an oxymoron.
steelpaw Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Isn't "Free Ad-Funded Pay Per View" a contradiction in terms? To make it more accurately convey what they actually mean, they ought to write it: 'Free Ad-funded/Pay per View'. Then it makes sense.
GregA1503560021 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) “There will be a new dawn when TV on demand can be advertiser funded and that’s why the 7 Media Group is supporting the Hybrid TV strategy because it underpins the basis of the trifecta that 7 is successful because of … the consumer, the advertiser and aggregator of content. Only difference is that TV model is linear and CASPA model is on demand”. My god, Seven actually gets it. Possibly. Edited July 16, 2010 by GregA
David Williams Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I imagine dd5.1 ; maybe some dd2.0 ones Does anyone actually know the answer to this without guessing/imagining? Blockbuster never did 5.1
