davmel Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 ok, just got a DVB-T Stick for my PC and to my shock horror, 7mate on PRIME is 10.27Mbps Yeah, seems to be getting lower. It was 10.4 Mbps a few days ago and now checked again and it is 10.1 Mbps obviously so as much quality can be given to the grand final on 7SD. It's such a shame since that bitrate could be used for 2 SD channels at the same quality as the current upconverted SD crap.

davmel Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 What makes it worse is the fact there are 1.63Mbps of Null Packets there. Eh? Currently a very static 448 kbps average of null packets in Melb.

sold Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 480kbps here in Adelaide. GEM on the other hand has ~1.3-1.5Mbps.

Without changing government regulations, I'd rather see them drop the HD resolution if they're going to upscale everything anyway (and then not have enough bandwidth!). 3 channels (2x576i and 1x576p) with plenty of bandwidth each would look better.

davmel Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 see: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?act=att...st&id=10419 Wow, Prime really doesn't give a crap about improving their main SD channel quality. They took around the same as metro Seven from the HD stream but didn't allocate the excess to the main SD channel! Idiots.
davmel Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 720p ought to be the minimum for HD Seven really should consider changing 7mate to 720p. It would be the best compromise to this awful situation.
betty boop Posted October 2, 2010 Author Posted October 2, 2010 Seven really should consider changing 7mate to 720p. It would be the best compromise to this awful situation. oh god and there in would put them on the slippery slope ie ala sbs and abc....not that it seems theyre already on it given what we've seen in the last week !
davmel Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 oh god and there in would put them on the slippery slope ie ala sbs and abc....not that it seems theyre already on it given what we've seen in the last week ! It might be a slippery slope but Seven are setting the inclination of that slope by dropping the bitrate now twice in a week to barely 10 Mbps. The last time they had 576p they were running it at 10.5 Mbps!!!!! 1440x1080i at 10.1 Mbps is a complete joke.
betty boop Posted October 3, 2010 Author Posted October 3, 2010 yeah well, if they were telling us the HD stuff had to go to delhi for the games, then I'd like to know why the comment below, if correct is the case ! Looks like we're not getting a live feed of the opening ceremony in HD, and none at all on free-to-air in HD.It'll be repeated many times on Foxtel HD though. if correct then it makes it just BS seven is feeding us re the grand final having to miss out on hd due to the stuff going to delhi for the games. and looks like complete cop out re HD in the case of the opening ceremony which youd think woudl the showcase ven to kick things off
ckent Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 if correct then it makes it just BS seven is feeding us re the grand final having to miss out on hd due to the stuff going to delhi for the games. Not really: You can't repeat it in HD format, if you don't have cameras there in the first place to record it in HD. Amirite???

RMF Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 if correct then it makes it just BS seven is feeding us re the grand final having to miss out on hd due to the stuff going to delhi for the games. Especially that its not even 7 broadcasting the games from Delhi, 10 is on ONE HD. I weep for my country sometimes these days, its becoming a mushroom factory.
davmel Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Especially that its not even 7 broadcasting the games from Delhi, 10 is on ONE HD. I weep for my country sometimes these days, its becoming a mushroom factory. Oh well, at least it will with any luck be shown in HD on Foxtel.... However since the utterly stupid FTA networks have pay tv by the balls with moronic legislation it wouldn't surprise me if Ten only allow the SD broadcast from Ten (including Ten watermarks instead of OneHD) on the Foxtel channels. The Foxtel re-broadcast of the Vancouver games had the exact 9HD broadcast including 9HD watermark so looks like Australia will get screwed yet again by anti-siphoning legislation and the greed of FTA networks. For all the complaints that people **** about Foxtel at least Foxtel doesn't have utter contempt for their viewers. FTA networks only care about what advertisers want.
GAS Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Howdy guys Just a quick question regarding channel 7 since 73 maaate started broadcasting. In my favorites should I have 70HD or just good old 7? Have been checking it out but it seems they both are broadcasting in 576i, will this always be the case or will they crank one or the other up for special events or just cause they can? All seems pretty confusing for this little black duck. Cheers
sold Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 (edited) 7 is all you need. 70 is just a redirect to 7 so they will always be identical (I imagine the 70 LCN might be removed at some point down the track). Edited October 3, 2010 by sold
GAS Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Thanks for the quick reply. Will delete 70HD immediately. Cheers
digitalj Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 ok, I said earlier in this thread that I would capture a frame from 7mate on PRIME to show the watermark, despite what it says, it is not 1920x1080i, the software has just scaled it horizontally to maintain aspect ratio. Here it is: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?act=att...st&id=10435
digitalj Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 That's the standard 7mate 'watermark'. yes, but alebonau was complaining earlier in this thread about how big it was, while I thought it was ok, so it was decided that I would post a capture so that alebonau could see if there was a difference between metro and regional.

Do you remember the massive 9HD triple square block watermark when it first appeared for the first fortnight after nine dumped their nine-dot logo in late 2006? How about the TenHD logo that appeared during the first week of broadcast in December 2007? Everything we have now is tiny by comparison!
digitalj Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 (edited) ps dig if your reading can you confirm the bitrate on tenhd with the opening ceremony broadcast ? It's ~14.9Mbps here via SC10 http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?act=att...st&id=10437 Edited October 4, 2010 by digitalj
