Aurora8 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 on chanel 12 here in Melbourne FTA ger, delete the Ten channels in your line-up and then re-scan. Afterwards, you should get Eleven on 11 and ONE HD on 12 in addition to 1.
mtv Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Southern Cross 10 (55) is still pointing to 10 here in Newcastle SC10 probably won't have 11 until, or close to, the official starting date of Jan 11, 2011.
StephenSLR Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) Ten has started advertising their new eleven chanel on tv It's also appeared today in my online TV guide. http://au.tv.yahoo.com/tv-guide/ No actual programs listed though, just says 'coming soon'. s Edited December 17, 2010 by StephenSLR
StephenSLR Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 It will be like this:ONE HD TEN SD ELEVEN SD Around the same time Packer bought shares in TEN wasn't there talk of them getting rid of ONE HD because it was bombing in the ratings? s
andys Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Southern Cross 10 (55) is still pointing to 10 here in Newcastle At this stage Eleven is likely to be carried on channel 55 by Southern Cross Ten. Andys.
mtv Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 At this stage Eleven is likely to be carried on channel 55 by Southern Cross Ten. Yes, but unlikely to commence until on, or close to, the official starting date for 11, on Jan 11, 2011.
X_PAC Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Ten has started advertising their new eleven chanel on tvhttp://eleven.com.au I thought it does not come out till next year Great but why did they get rid of 1 hd on ch 12?
X_PAC Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Obviously Ten is feeling the pressure to launch now that 7mate and Gem are on air... the promo on TV and their website both neglect to hint at when Eleven will start.... not even a vague "coming soon", so presumably it isn't going to be soon. And yes, that logo is a bit too basic. Looks like something someone's 8yo made in MS Paint. 11 weil be on air so ch 10 say from January 11 2011 GET it JAN 11 in 2011 for ch11
koolbardi Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Great but why did they get rid of 1 hd on ch 12? ONE HD is only available on 1 & 12 in HD with the upcoming change 12 used to carry the SD Version of ONE, but now will point to the HD Version
Golf Geezer Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 ONE HD is only available on 1 & 12 in HD with the upcoming change12 used to carry the SD Version of ONE, but now will point to the HD Version That's right. Two (HD) channels carrying exactly the same thing, while no SD access to the sports content. Well done channel 10. So much for "free TV".
Proud Queenslander Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 That's right. Two (HD) channels carrying exactly the same thing, while no SD access to the sports content.Well done channel 10. So much for "free TV". An HD STB can be purchased at a reasonable price. Some of them cost no more than $60.
Timmy Downawell Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Two (HD) channels carrying exactly the same thing There is only one HD channel being streamed, but two LCNs (logical channel numbers) pointing to that stream. Ten could point any number of LCNs at that stream but it won't change the fact that they have only a limited amount of bandwidth with which to play, and under legislation are only permitted to broadcast 1xHD and 2xSD channels (although if they were allowed they could squeeze in a third SD channel as per the ABC). With the price of HD STBs/PVRs coming down so much it is wasteful to have SD/HD simulcast when you can have two unique channels, which is exactly what they're doing. Shutting down One SD is a win for viewers, not a loss.
Golf Geezer Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 An HD STB can be purchased at a reasonable price. Some of them cost no more than $60. Please forgive my ignorance, but can the $60 STB show HD content via my SD TV? Thanks.
sdixon Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Please forgive my ignorance, but can the $60 STB show HD content via my SD TV?Thanks. Yes
StephenSLR Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 ^ +1 I have an CRT TV with HD STB and I can view HD channels just fine. s
ckent Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Please forgive my ignorance, but can the $60 STB show HD content via my SD TV? Don't apologise — it was precisely this fact that all the newspapers and the ABC didn't want you to know back when digital TV was getting started, so they could spin the lies that "HDTV will cost everyone $20,000" (like the NBN, but 10 years ago) so that they could push their own self-interests in multichanneling SDTV instead. This then left us with ten years of "triplecasting" and now that that's finished, four out of five networks are showing their biggest channels in SD only (and the fifth doesn't have any HD production facilities). CK.

We can also say goodbye to surround sound/5.1 audio streams and HD first run movies, that were heavily promoted back in the days. **** luck for those people why got conned into buying an SD set top box to watch ONE HD (SD mirror). Because Ten promoted it that way. You don't need to have an HD box to watch as its available on SD as well for those with older tvs just need to buy an SD box. Obviously stations can't make there main channel HD because half the population are still using SD only boxes on old TVs and have no idea that you can simply buy a $50 HD box and watch all the HD channels they are missing, on an old SD only TV. At Xmas, my folks were still under the impression their 15-year-old Sony CRT wasn't able to play HD DTV content using an HD set top box. It's a confusing mess of information.
