Hi guys.

I could be relocating to Caboolture before the end of the year and is wondering if anyone has had any luck getting the signals from the Bald Knob tower in Caboolture? I've done a plot using http://www.heywhatsthat.com/profiler.html to a few places I'm looking at and there is nothing blocking the path between the houses and Bald Knob. So if I put up a decent quality UHF antenna, RG6 cable and maybe some amplification will I get the Sunshine Coast channels? Or am I just wasting my time.

Thanks in advance.

See http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=91003 - it is possible to receive the stations in Brisbane with a good antenna and an elevated location.

Yes, recently installed UHF phased array antenna in Burpengary. Some drop puts, mainly because fine tuning needed and better mast head amp is needed. Also this is a low set house with short antenna mast.

Guys, a bit of an update. I managed to get onto the roof of the house the other day (after being busy around Xmas time) to have a look at the antenna and wiring as I couldn't get any decent TV reception. Turns out the antenna has rusted out, balun is full of water, there was a random diplexer used as a joiner (which itself was loose) and a splitter in the roof (again used as a joiner?) that was full of crud and dust.

So down to Laceys, new Fracarro LP345HV, Kingray amp, RG6 quad shield and some new F connector wallplates. Ran new wiring from the roof down to the wallplate, swung the antenna north towards Bald Knob (used GPS to line it up) and did an autoscan. Without the amp it picked up all the Brisbane channels, as well as SC10 from Bald Knob. So plugged the amplifier in and picks up WIN and 7 Suncoast as well :D. Very happy with the result. Can't believe its picking up Brisbane on the wrong end of the antenna. Oh well, certainly not complaining!

Remember that Brisbane 7, 9 & 10 digital services are re-broadcast from Bald Knob on channels 53, 59 and 56 respectively.

Were you receiving Brisbane off the back of the antenna (VHF) or their re-broadcast Brisbane programme (UHF) from Bald Knob?

I was under the impression that the Brisbane commercial stations are not off Bald Knob in Digital. But the signals that were being received in the install I did was from Mt Coot-tha. The only channels being received from Bald Knob are ABC, WIN, 7QLD and SC10.

Hi datvman

You can trust the Brisbane commercial television is transmitted from Bald Knob on channels 53, 56 and 59 for over four years.

Ah ok I stand corrected then. But I checked again, the Brisbane stations I am receiving are from Mt Coot-tha and the Regional QLD stations I am receiving are from Bald Knob.

Thanks for the info James.

I have got sunshine coast in caboolture with a mini hunter on a tripod mount with a mast amp, it did work but not much headroom.

You would be getting about 50-60dB off antenna in caboolture, plus an amp & with F/B ratio

I would say Mount coot-tha is comming in from the back of the antenna.

Keep in mind there's no need for any uncertainty or guesswork here in determining where your Brisbane signals are coming from.

For Seven if you are receiving 177.5MHz it's Brisbane, if it's 704.625MHz it's Bald Knob.

For Nine if you are receiving 191.625MHz it's Brisbane, if it's 746.5MHz it's Bald Knob.

For Ten if you are receiving 219.5MHz it's Brisbane, if it's 725.5MHz it's Bald Knob.

I say this in my last post because i had a TV repair workshop in caboolture & done a lot of antenna's as well.

datvman should know if it's bris or baldknob on the auto search as bris is first off that bat to lock in & if he's not sure go in to the menu & check freq if poss.

I guess every spot is different.

But i know you would not get any where near 50-60dB off antenna from bald knob on CH 53, 56, 59.

Agree absolutely.

I thought I made it quite clear to EVERYONE that I was receiving Brisbane (Mt Coot-tha) 7, 9, 10, ABC and 31 off the BACK of my antenna and SC10, WIN, 7 Sunshine, SBS and ABC (yeah I get 2 ABC's, lucky me :D ) from Bald Knob. Because, as I posted on Sunday

I bolded the important bit. Thanks for reading.

It's good that it's all good.

Anyone who may be interested and not having similar success to datvman.

Bald Knob 7, 9 and 10 digital services when surveyed got well into Brisbane's inner northern suburbs where there can be issues getting Mt Coot-tha. It's even useful in parts of Brisbane's bayside suburbs.

7, 9 and 10 services are on a different transmit antenna pattern to all other Bald Knob services and is designed to put lots of power to the south west through to the south east.

I set up a UHF phased array antenna on a low set house some months ago in Burpengary for digital only. No amp. SBS not able to be received because of the single frequency issue. Also WIN scans in, but no signal (being channel 69). All other Brisbane & Sun Coast channels from Bald Knob can be reached with a just a few short occasional drop outs.

At Keperra on Brisbane's northside (885 Samford Road) there is a low set house with tall mast with UHF phased array antenna pointing towards Bald Knob. No VHF antenna on the mast! Photo on Google maps.

i agree.

But i found any more south-west of caboolture going for bald knob SBS is a problem due to SFN.
