com59841503560232 Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 If you're getting the RF modchip does it matter whether you buy it from US or locally? I'm using the bluraychip.dk pro mod chip and am very happy with it. Some local retailers (Merlin and Gattiweb) sell the Oppo with this pre-installed.blairy I got mine from bluraychip as well for the CA 751 and I'm very happy with it, easy to install and works as it should.
isilver Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Thanks for the responses to my questions above. Oppo do appear to have removed the ability to buy one directly and have it sent to Australia, however, as Quark pointed out you can get one from Amazon for the same price but with much cheaper freight costs. Do the AU models use the same firmware as the US models, and if not, is there much delay before the AU software updates are made available?
David Williams Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Do the AU models use the same firmware as the US models, and if not, is there much delay before the AU software updates are made available? Different firmware for AU model. I would expect the US firmware to be ahead of ther AU one - a week or so would be my guess.

The main firmware versions are currently different between the US and AU. The loader version and the sub-versions are currently the same. Oppo's support is usually very prompt and I doubt that the local version will lag far behind. Over time I'd expect a few more differences between local and US firmware due to region based disc variations.
blairy Posted July 23, 2012 Author Posted July 23, 2012 The main differences in FW would be stuff like netflix, vudu etc that are't available in Australia. The Australian distributor can probably answer questions about FW lag regarding new releases. Mind you, I've never encountered a problem with a disc that required a FW update to enable it to play so maybe it's not that big deal (he says touching wood ) Cheers blairy
Cooksta59 Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Yes I had the same 83 chip probably and prefer the intuitive pro mod in my 95 glad I didnt get the standard http://www.bluraychi...p?id_product=15 Installed the standard chip in my 95 as I dont have many non region B locked discs. The standard mod is a pia, have to get instructions out when i want to use it.

blairy Posted July 25, 2012 Author Posted July 25, 2012 Unfortunately I have, both the Alien Quadrilogy and Matrix box sets had problems on my BDP-83! Touche, I don't have either of those on bluray, so yeah, just cuz one person doesn't have the issue doesn't mean it isn't an issue. blairy
isilver Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I ended up ordering an AU model from Merlin Audio, looking forward to seeing it on my doorstep soon. All that's left to do now is decide which 3D-capable TV I want!
Cooksta59 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Is it possible to program this as a sequence into an al-in-one remote? blairy You have me thinking......i do use a Logitch universal remote.
blairy Posted July 25, 2012 Author Posted July 25, 2012 If you can't work it out yourself, send them an email and they'll tell you how to do it (or even set it up for you if you're still within the 90 days purchase window). blairy
David Williams Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Depends on the Logitech model - my 900 for example does not do sequences which really sucks.
blairy Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 I'm using a Harmony One which does sequences. Somewhat foolishly I'd presumed every all in one remote would also do this. Apologies blairy
blairy Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 (edited) There are currently (at time of typing) some refurbished bdp93's available on oppodigital. As I understand it they have new unit warranty and this is probably the only way to get them at a discount. Probably best to act and not dawdle if at all interested. http://www.oppodigital.com/products.asp Good luck blairy Edited July 29, 2012 by blairy

blairy Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 If you go thru to the buy page the drop down lists USA, Japan, Canada and Mexico. If they'll send it to Japan probably worth emailing them and asking about shipping to Australia. Of course this may have something to do with Austyralia now having an official distributor. blairy
com59841503560232 Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 (edited) I've got a pro mod kit for the 93 that I now no longer need, I have put it in and tried it but I'm doing the terra firma upgrade and it doesn't fit, so if anyone is looking for one and wants to save some money please pm me ps. I only got it a week ago so virtually new and easy to fit. Edited July 30, 2012 by com5984
aHorseofCourse Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 New beta firmware adds DVD 24p conversion, which is a nice feature to have. Not nice enough to lose ISO playback maybe, but nice… It's here: http://oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-93/bdp9x-firmware-71-0723B.aspx And according to chatter at AVSForums, you'll be able to revert to the previous official firmware with this beta.
djOS Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 DVD 24p conversion is overrated, we've had this on the BD-83 for a long time and it's really not that great - I turned it off.

I installed this today and tried playing a region B BD disc (player was set to Region A) and switched it to region B as I've got the Pro-Mod installed on my BDP-95 and the region switch doesn't work now with this new firmware. I tried 5 times to get it to work but continued to receive the wrong region warning. Also after switching the regions and turning the player on it's not responsive and I have to shut it down using the front power button, takes about 30secs before it shuts off. So going to roll back to the previous firmware now. Anyone else experience this problem with the new beta firmware? *UPDATE* Put the April firmware back on and got the same issue, so turned off player and unplugged it then started it up did the region switch and it worked. Will stay with the April firmware for now. I followed everything to the letter as well when installing, even reverted to factory defaults after installing the new firmware. Quark Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Ouch! Looks like the mod kit is going to need another firmware update.

aHorseofCourse Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 No. I wasn't sure if anything could be done about it or who to contact. Blairy, can you email them and let them know? It's a good thing you were able to get back to the "official" firmware, Simon. Would not have been good to be stuck. I'm surprised this problem has happened again but they'll need to fix it.
